I stayed at East Hotel twice during a recent visit to Myanmar. I booked a deluxe room which was $US110. I had asked (both times) for a room on an upper floor with a window that opened - instead it was a lower floor room with a frosted glass panel in the side wall that did not open and with another wall only a few inches away. I think there are probably better and more expensive rooms with opening windows - if you want to see the street scene outside you may need to persist with your request and pay a bit more! As a result, the room was very dark and a bit claustrophobic. The odd thing was (in both rooms) the wall letting onto the corridor was frosted glass with a not very generous blind. This meant there was a lot of noise and light from the comings and goings outside.
On the positive side, the furnishings were quite attractive, and a comfortable bed with good bed linen. There was free bottled water in a fridge by the lift on each floor, but no fridge in the room. The location is great - a two minute walk to the market, supermarket, good food and a short stroll from the river, Sule Pagoda etc. Reasonably helpful staff, marginal wifi in the rooms but better in the lobby. Breakfast was ok, not a great choice, and there is food available all day. The lobby was light and bright but mostly chairs and tables - not so great if you are looking for a comfortable sofa if you want to escape your dark windowless room.
I agree with the comments by other reviewers about the open bathrooms - not attractive at all! Plus there was some nasty slimy wooden flooring in the shower that was a bit unpleasant and not very clean.
