“Ocean Pearl Inn, Yangon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

Tidy enough property, in a handy position. We spent 2 nights here at the start of our trip and another 2 nights before leaving Myanmar. Staff were a bit off-hand, but were helpful enough if you had a question. The bathroom was quite run-down, but the shower did the job at the end of a hot sweaty day. Very average, but when all is said and done, it was clean and that's the main requirement for me.Breakfast is basic; egg, toast, jam, fruit and tea/coffee.
There are several places to eat in the area, and a convenience store next door for the basics.
The free airport pick-up was great.
Reasonable value, but not flash.

Room Tip: During our first visit to Ocean Pearl Inn we were on the first floor, so only one set of stairs to n...

The most expensive place we stayed in myanmar, and far down the list of our favorites.

We stayed there when we first arrived in Yangon, and when we left. Both times our room had no window, and the place smelled musty.. But at least the beds were clean.

The staff were helpful, if not overly friendly. The airport pickup was great, but we were disappointed that they weren't offering a drop off on the morning we were leaving.

Overall, a giant "meh!" to the Ocean Pearl.

I stayed for 2 nights in this place, one night each during my short visit to Myanmar. I had a double room for USD$24 (internet booking price) and got a free pick up from the International Airport. No free transfer from the domestic airport though.

Breakfast was basic. Just some local tea, toast with butter and jam and fruits.

Room was clean but spartan - just a bed, aircon, tv and attached bathroom. The TV only has 2 channels unfortunately.

Bearing in mind that this is not Thailand or Vietnam, the standard here is considered to be quite good already. Whats more, if you want to sample local food, just head out of the hotel and you can immediately find tons of local food stalls (I've heard tons of Westerners getting sick from eating street food while I was in Myanmar. I'm Asian, maybe that's why I didn't had problems).

There's also a super market which is like 10-15mins walk from the hotel as well and if you're lazy, a provision shop just beside it.

The staff are friendly, they can provide you info on many stuff like taxi fares and entrance fees to attractions, etc.

All in all, a nice place to bunk for a couple of nights.

PS: Not all rooms are of the same size. The rooms on the ground floor are particularly cramp and has a musty smell to it. Lucky they were to change it to room I first stayed in. You might want to look at the rooms first and ask for another room if it's not to your liking.

The Ocean Pearl was an excellent first place to stay, airport pick up and very good on providing information and helping with onward travel. The breakfast was basic but it is a budget place at $25 a night for a double in a large city. After travelling around Myanmar we spent the last night there before flying to Thailand and the manager kindly offered us a free ride to the airport as they were picking up other customers.

This is a one or two-night place max. The best parts of staying was the free pickup at the airport and the location in old Rangoon. I was too tired to notice when I checked in, but my room had no window, which was not a problem until the power went out - an everyday occurrence in Yangon - which meant no light and no a/c and thus gave it a Black Hole of Calcutta ambiance. The breakfast was, frankly, kind of sad. It appears to be popular stopover for backpackers on a budget and that says it all. The rooms were very clean. The people very nice, the accommodations very, very minimal. If you're passing through, fine. If you plan to stay in Yangon for more than a day, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Rooms are clean; breakfast above average (toast, eggs, and fruit - but unfortunately the ubiquitous 3 in 1 coffee), AC and hot water work, and they have a safe deposit box for your valuables (although the chance of getting robbed in Myanmar must be close to zero).

Within walking distance of train station, and Scott Market (15 minutes).

We stayed one night at Ocean Pearl Inn. The room was fine, we only missed the window (in fact there were two, but one was about 20cm beside of the wall from the next house and the other was painted dark (maybe instead of a curtain??).
Breakfast was served in the reception-area – basic but okay.
The reception-staff wasn't especially friendly, they always seemed to be in a hurry. But they organised the bus ticket for us as well as a taxi to the busstation for us and another couple so that we could share the price of the taxi, which was nice. They also have a free pick-up from the airport.
