“Smiles all Around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Jack and Janelle were wonderful in helping us in exploring Port Vila to our liking. They helped to arrange a quad bike for the day, pointed out areas we needed to see and the best way to get there, and gave great suggestions for food.

Traveller's is what you'd expect for the price. It is clean, tidy, and provides the basics. When you're not spending all day in the room (who does?) it provides a great base to enjoy Efate. The coffee is strong, the pool is refreshing, and the beer is always cold! Jack even went to his favorite coffee place and purchased us a bag of coffee to bring home! They definitely try to please their guests, and we are very grateful.

Tips: Save your money and get a bus instead of taking a taxi. Most places the bus will take you there for 300 Vatu as opposed to 1000 Vatu per person in a taxi. The system is easy: if a license plate has a B in the beginning, it's a bus. When it starts with a T, it's a taxi. You may want to carry around a map of port vila since some of the bus drivers had trouble getting back to the motel.

The Blue Lagoon is AMAZING! The color of the water is breathtaking, and the rope swing set up by the locals is fun to try. Be expected to pay entry fees wherever you go. Mele Cascades, Hideaway Island, Blue Lagoon, Turtle Bay. Everything costs you, but they are definitely worth it!

The owners are lovely and soooo helpful when it comes to travel advice. The motel has a lovely setting and is a short walk to the town. Was a great place to meet other travellers. The breakfasts are yummy as well.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights while in Port Vila. The owners who live on the property are very nice and overall the property is very well maintained. The pool is very pleasant and overall the feel is relaxed. The owners will gladly help you with advice. However if you are looking for a quiet place to sleep this is not it - the rooms are around an internal courtyard and from 8am people start talking loudly, children are shouting, the staff are talking etc. The loud talking sometimes continues until midnight. Also be aware that if you decide to pay by credit card there's a fee of 5%. Also the rate in vatu is substantially higher than the rate in Australian dollars. Your only option to keep the costs down is to bring cash Australian dollars if you can.

We planned three days in Travellers Budget Motel and last two days in the five star Casino Hotel when back from Tanna island. But we cancelled our booking in the casino and stayed in motel for rest of days in Port villa. The motel is only 10 mins always from airport by taxi and 15mins walking to the market. The motel is very delicate and well equipped . I really like the time staying in the outdoor swimming pool after whole day trip, watching the stars, chatting with mates with a drink.

Staff here are also friendly and helpful. I lost my phone in Tanna island but would leave Vanuatu very soon. As the telecommunication is so poor in Vanuatu , I didn't find my phone till I left . But Jack and Janelle---owners of the motel tried so hard to find my phone and posted me in time. I just got my phone back and I am so happy to see all the valuable pictures taken in Vanuatu.

It is a great time to stayed in the motel, and it's my honour to meet people working in the motel and other travellers staying in here.

Room Tip: The only dormitory is a mixed one .

From the outside, this doesn't look like much - a little courtyard by a busy road near the centre of town. However, when you step inside it's a remarkably beautiful and chilled-out spot, with trees, flowers and literally hundreds of exotic carvings surrounding a rippling blue pool and a thatched 'nakamal' (dining/meeting area). Like in a true village nakamal, there's a friendly atmosphere within which people can meet other travellers, swap stories, get to know their hosts, eat, drink, do cooking and generally chill out. Jack and Janelle are great hosts and the staff are friendly and helpful.

With its central location and good facilities, the Travellers Budget Motel would be particularly suited to budget-conscious travellers who are here on business, or those seeking a base from which to organise excursions. I spent nearly a month there while looking for longer-term accommodation in Vila and found it a very good base from which to work as well as to relax.

Room Tip: Shared rooms are great value but quite crowded.

It's a few weeks after we took a break in Vanuatu and stayed with Jack and Janelle at Traveller's Budget Motel. I found them through Trip Advisor and from the moment we contacted them about availability they were just ready to answer any questions. They were also both there to great us when we arrived, smiles and just a wealth of information about what we could do while we stayed in Port Vila. The accommodation was perfect for us. It was clean and quiet, just a short downhill walk to the waterfront and into the main town. While there is a small kitchenette in the room, the area has some nice restaurants around, but our food of choice was the meals that Jack and Janelle provided in the evening. Made by a local chef, they have a nice variety of meals available to keep you eating there most nights (ozzi buco all the way!). The atmosphere was very pleasant, with a open main kitchen, small dining area by the pool, and always a stock of cool beers. We definitely were treated to more than we expected and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A short 10 minute walk to the center of town (during which you will be greeted by everyone you pass on the street with a warm, friendly “Hello”) the Traveller’s Budget Hotel was a fantastic place for us to spend our 4 days in Port Vila. I can’t remember a time I stayed at a place with such friendly hosts, as Jack and Janelle go out of their way to make sure that everyone has a good time, making introductions to new arrivals, helping with travel plans to other islands and suggesting things to do in Port Vila itself. The pool is a welcoming break from the heat of the island (and if you need to escape the throngs of mid-day cruise ship passengers wandering the streets), the rooms are immaculately clean and the fruit salad is made every morning with fresh tropical fruits. If traveling to other islands (which I highly recommend), you can store your luggage with them for 100 vatu per day, which goes into a tip jar that is distributed amongst the staff. If you are thinking about a trip to Tanna, Ambrym or Santo, I would suggest emailing Jack and Janelle before you confirm your plans, as they know the islands extremely well and can offer some guidance as to where to stay. After returning back to Traveller’s from Tanna, it felt as if we were coming home. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
