“Escape to Vanuatu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

After the potholes in the main centre, the road to Koyu was smooth - however we did get a bit of a shock when it turned into a dirt road and then became a track through the jungle, but we very pleasantly surprised when we arrived!! We had a lovely time here - it was so lovely and quiet. The views were great and so close to the sea. We snorkeled down the beach close to Eratap Resort. We loved being self contained and being able to do our own thing. Our friendly village taxi driver soon became our regular personal driver. We would highly recommend Koyu and Arin for his friendly helpful advice and service!!!

We stayed for three nights at the end of our holiday at Koya, it was nice listening to the waves from the sea,
The rooms were clean and roomy

we enjoyed the morning and evening walks,
You can also walk down the road to a resort for lunch or dinner if you feel like not cooking,

We would go back

cheers

I've stayed at Koy apartments for a weekend in December 2013 and can definitely recommend it to everyone who enjoys tranquil and remote places.

Location

It's really a perfect place to go if you like a very tranquil environment and don't mind being far away from the buzz - besides 2-3 houses opposite the road and Eratap Resort 500m down the road, there is really nothing around but unspoilt nature. I absolutely loved this peaceful environment, but you do have to like being remote. Definitely need own transport or be ready to take lengthy taxi rides.

Good snorkelling right off the beach, but I found it very difficult to get into the water at low tide. No problem at high tide though.

Equipment/Comfort

Often being so remote means more basic accommodation, but I was pleasantly surprised to find such modern-standard, spotlessly clean and cozy accommodation out there. Everything is really well maintained and clean - I almost had the impression I was the first person to stay in a newly furnished room. Top scores on this as well. No airco but large ceiling fan. Kitchen well equipped. Some basic items and food stuffs available at reception.

Staff

Staff was great and helpful. Arin (the owner) gave me lots of tips and was happy to lend me snorkeling equipment and even his bike. Also was happy to offer me rides to town when he went, and even to bring some items from the supermarket when he went shopping. Very personal and friendly service.

Absolutely the best place to chill out and relax. Beautiful surroundings and beach - especially the traditional canoe adventure to the islands in the lagoon. Great opportunities to get amongst the locals and close to Aratap Resort for great cuisine.

Family of 4 who visit Vanuatu frequently. We decided to stay outside of Port Vila this time, we had transport, so the distance from town (about 15 minutes or so) wasn't an issue for us. We got a really good rate at the time, so made it worthwhile. The apartment was well appointed, we were self catering, so worked well. Because of a busy working schedule we never had time to swim but explored the beach in the evenings - very pretty and lovely sunsets to be seen from this area. Staff were very helpful and updated our washing which is always a bonus service. DEFINITELY need transport of some sort if you are planning on not staying put at the accommodation. Close to resorts with restaurants, but we never used them. What I found particularly appealing was that the apartments are located in an area and you need to pass through where ni-Vanuatu live, giving you an idea of who the local people are living - that appeals to these travellers.

Room Tip: Must have transport

We booked at the Koyu apartments on Efate island in September 2013, we had no real expectations of what the place would be like as we have never visited the islands before.
Initial thoughts were remote and far but it quickly turned into blissful quietness with amazing back to nature surroundings. The rooms were large, pleasant and cleaned by friendly staff everyday.
The price range was very good for the size of the rooms we stayed in - we got a 2 bedroom apartment for only 2 people as that was the only room available so it would be even more affordable if we had a group. The location is extremely quiet with nice walks around the area.

Overall the accommodation, the outdoor environment and the very hospitable manager of the property definitely made the trip a relaxing get-away for us.

I would recommend this for anyone wanting a more private, relaxing get away.
