“Affordable and lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We spent the majority of our time in Vanuatu in a village stay which was a hard act to follow, and finished off with 3 nights at Coconut Palms in an Apartment. One for my husband and I, and the other for our 3 children and my mum. We were not disappointed. The apartments are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The welcome drink and breakfast inclusion were a nice touch and staff were friendly and helpful at all times.
The kids loved the pool and the 'hand seats' and the whole experience was a lovely way to complete our Vanuatu holiday.
My husband and I had walked the streets a few days earlier to find somewhere to stay and Coconut Palms was our 8th port of call. It was also our last since it ticked all the boxes.
We would definitely recommend Coconut Palms to other travelers, though we did look at a room in the highrise section and definitely preferred the apartments.

Room Tip: We stayed in an apartment and would recommend these over the rooms in the highrise section.

Thanks you for your review on Tripadvisor.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with us at Coconut Palms Resort.

The 'Hand Seats' are quiet cool, we actually moved them up to reception yesterday because of this reason. Now they will be one of the first things you see when you come in the hotel.

Look forward seeing you next time you are in our lovely country.

Many thanks

I stayed at coconut palms for the whole summer whilst doing my medical elective at the hospital in port vila. It was such a fantastic hotel and couldn't have been more perfect. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the hotel itself was lovely with a great pool, the fire show on Saturday evenings is also a must see! It is a perfect distance from town and local shops and we loved getting to know the area and exploring the island. I would definitely revisit if I'm travelling in that part of the world again!!

Room Tip: The apartment rooms in the separate block are lovely... very spacious.

Spent 5 weeks in Coconut Palms Resort while doing my medical elective on the island. It was my first time to Vanuatu and I absolutely loved it. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Lee the bar manager who made us feel so welcome. We got a great room with a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. I shared a Hibiscus room with a friend and although we didn't have ensuite, we found we were the only ones using the bathrooms in the corridor and it really was no problem at all.
The breakfast was delicious and they serve great coffee too. The whole hotel had a lovely atmosphere and felt very clean. Particularly enjoyed the trivia night and the fire show was impressive every week.
Really good location for getting into town - just a short walk or bus ride. The staff were great at recommending places to eat and advised us on the best day trips.

Overall a really great experience and I would definitely stay here again.

We booked our trip the week before we left and didn't have much of a choice as to where in Port Villa we were going to stay. As a married couple in our 40's I would have to say that I was very happy with the location as it is just 10 minute walk from the centre of Port Villa. Close enough to everything but without the noise.

The staff are extremely helpful, from the cleaners right through to the General Manager. Our package holiday was the first on a new tariff, which hadn't been explained to the staff or Managers by the travel agent. The staff were polite and helpful and the General Manager arranged everything and even more as a gesture of good will, which was not expected but a very pleasant surprise.

Our meal on the first night (Monday) was not as good as I expected. I never complained as I thought anyone could have a bad night, and I was right as the other nights we ate in the hotel the food was very good.

The hotel has a tour operator / advisor who works out of the hotel foyer Monday to Saturday. The advisor is independant to the hotel and very helpful.

Our room was a Superior Orchard room, this room comes with it's own en-suite which was almost as big as the main bedroom. The room also has a microwave, small fridge, kettle, cups and clock and the room was cleaned most days when we were out.

The hotel puts on it's own free fire show for residents on Saturday night, which was fantastic. There are also other arranged events throughout the week, (some require an extra charge)

To summarise, we had a great week in Port Villa and this was largely down to the advice and helpful staff at Coconut Palms. This is a good value, comfortable, friendly and helpful hotel. I would certainly stay at Coconut Palms again.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have communal toilets. Pay the extra for an en-suite room.

I spent 4 weeks at Coconut Palms resort in August and had the time of my life, Vanuatu truly is the happiest place in the world and the Coconut Palms resort and staff made the whole experience so much more enjoyable!

The rooms were very clean and well maintained. We had 3 of us staying in one of the deluxe apartments and there was plenty of space for us.

The staff at the resort were incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout our whole stay.

The entertainment provided by Lee during meet the management drinks and the weekly quiz was excellent and kept us busy during our stay, there was never a dull moment.

The Food was excellent value and very good. I would really recommend the pancakes at breakfast!

The pool at the resort is a great length to try and keep fit and to also cool down in the hot Vanuatu sunshine. The loungers around the pool were well maintained and there was always one available, very unlike many hotels I have stayed in.

Efate Island and the surrounding islands are beautiful! Some other things I would recommend doing are the Mele cascades and the Congoola cruise!

Enjoy your trip and definitely choose Coconut Palms!

Been first time to Vanuatu it has been such a amazing journey . My stay at the Coconut Palms " Fantastic " . The staff were so kind an welcoming an they made my stay comfortable. The fire show is a must for any visitors to see ....certainly outstanding entertainment. And to other different activities provided it certainly was a bonus.
Staying in a Hibiscus room (pretty much basic) with shared bathroom an toilet ...I hav no complaints as Im still learning from basic an I suppose to upmarket basic. I certainly enjoyed the walks to town an back to the Resort which was only 10 mins away an I thoughts this was fantastic as everthing was close by. Theres certainly never short of any rides as the Buses runs all the time, taking you to places you wanted to go.
The pool " Fantastic " specially for that cooling swim throughout the day.
I hav no problems with the breakfast , lunch, or dinner ... Cheers to the Chefs and to all the staff of Coconut Palms Thankyou for your guys warm welcome and hospitality yous have shown .... It had been a pleasure to knows yous . Cheeers from NZ

Hi there Lillian261

Thank you very much for your kind words, and time you took to put a review on Tripadvisor. Over the years this has been an increasingly great source of feedback for us here at Coconut Palms Resort. We read out the reviews on a weekly basis at all the staff meetings and the crew really like hearing the positive feedback, and also it gives us good discussion points to talk through when things don't go so right.

In this case we are all very happy that you had a great time with us.

In regard to the Hibiscus room, you will be happy to hear that by the end of next week we will have installed Televisions in all these rooms, so next time you stay with us you will they will be a little less basic. Although we do have the Superior Orchard room and the Palms Deluxe Studio Apartments available if you are looking for something with Air conditioner, Ceiling Fan, Security Safe, Satellite Television, In house Movies, Telephone, Fridge, Microwave, Hair Dryer and Tea & Coffee making facilities.

Also, thank you for your positive feedback in regards to the kitchen, we are proud of our Kitchen team who recently took out 9 medals at the 2012 Culinary Arts and Hospitality Show. Our restaurant "Navara" still has not had many reviews on Tripadvisor, if you could find the time to pop one up there also we would be very appreciative.

Again, we are gracious that you took the time to review us on Tripadvisor, and look forward to seeing you next time you are in Vanuatu.

Kindest regards,

On a missions trip from New Zealand to Tanna Island in Vanuatu's southern TAFEA Province, we needed some low-cost accommodation as we passed both ways through Vila to and from our destination. After two weeks living in villages and rationing water with the locals we were looking forward to a good bed and a warm shower before an early flight back to New Zealand.
We'd booked a Hibiscus Room for each end of our stay, but when we arrived back, we were met at reception by Elliot Agius, the Palms GM. He was very interested in what we'd been up to - and carried my bag to our room. Once he knew we'd been roughing it for a while, he turned away from the Hibiscus and gave us a free upgrade into a Superior Orchid room with air con and en suite.
Now, I know it's impractical for him to do that for everyone, but it was his service, and that of his staff, that makes us want to go back again.
And on top of that, he recommended a great restaurant down town for us to really enjoy our last night in Vanuatu.
The staff were very helpful and friendly at Coconut Palms, and combined with the other unexpected service, we're very happy to recommend it as good value, low cost accommodation the next time you're in Port Vila.

Room Tip: The Hibiscus and Superior Orchid rooms we used are towards the back of the property away from the ro...
