“An intimate hotel, very handy to the centre of Port Vila with a lovely pool.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2009

We stayed at Fatumaru Lodge for the first 4 days of our Vanuatu Honeymoon and had a lovely time. We stayed in 'Santo' Room, which was right on the water and had a lovely view. The room was fairly clean and had an air-conditioner which is pretty much essential for the time of year.
Pascal our host and Emily (guest services) were very helpful in organising activities for us and the tropical breakfast was excellent!
It is a ten minute walk to the centre of town but the footpaths are shocking and there are no streetlights - we walked in nearly every day but we are fit and carried a torch. An older lady that was staying said that she wouldn't/couldn't do it. It is easy to flag down a bus or taxi though!
Eating out in Vanuatu is not cheap, expect to pay about the same as in Australia so having a kitchenette was handy. Also the BBQ near the pool is free for guests to use.
The pool is lovely and since there is only a small number of rooms we had it to ourselves most of the time.
There is not really a beach there though and after seeing a sea snake from our balcony we decided not to swim in the bay. We did have fun mucking around on top of the water in the kayaks that are provided free of charge for guest use.

A lovely spot and we were well looked after. We especialy love the daily visit from the fairies that would make everything so clean and tidy.

Lovely place with superb studio apartments right on the water's edge. Easy trip into town walking or on the bus. Good pool area & friendly, helpful staff. Very family oriented place. Only drawback is perhaps the lack of anywhere to buy a drink or food.

  • Disliked — No facility to buy food or drinks

It is simple: Stay at Fatumaru Lodge The experience allowed us to enjoy a great and yet simple lifestyle in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The people at the Resort are warm and sincere as too are the locals. The staff were all very approachable which allowed us to fit right in with the rest of the locals. We felt so comfortable in our new environment. The accomodation is more than enough for a family of four. My boys had the best time of their young lives. Always making new friends with other kids that stayed at Fatumaru Lodge and sharing each others experiences of being at the Resort and in Port Vila.
The prices to stay at the Lodge were very affordable. I believe you got more for your money with the basic facilities at your fingertips. "to enjoy yourself, people think you have to spend a lot of money"! Not here.
We, as a Family, live a busy life but staying at Fatumaru Lodge gave us the opportunity to switch right off! If the staff recommended something ... you would be guaranteed an enjoyable experience whether the occasion was for dinning, tours, events or transport. "What you see is what you get"! As far as I am concerned ... if you want to experience a small part of Vanuatu, go to Fatumaru Lodge. This is where I would come again and again ... and again. Top Shelf!! Thank you all the people at Fatumaru Lodge, all of you. You have stolen our hearts.

Kindest Regards
Aran, Nina, Thomas & Marc ( Melbourne, Australia)

I was alone at this fantastic romantic Lodge as I was in Port Vila for work. I had wished that I had my partner to share this experience as I had lovely service, smiling faces and beautiful breakfasts that consisted of fresh fruits, pastries and baguettes.
I plan to come back to Port Vila for a holiday with my partner and I would like to stay there again to relax, swim and take in the scenery.

Fatumaru Lodge is well located, 5 minutes by bus from the city. It is far enough away from the busy city centre to relax, but close enough to get supplies. We did our own food shopping and cooked it up on the BBQ by the pool and used the kitchenette. The location is beautiful and we spent hours on the balcony spotting different fish below us, although catching any of them with the Lodge fishing rod proved an impossible task. The view from our room is stunning and we watched the sunsets and cruise ships coming and going from our balcony. We had a great time in the Lodge kayaks exploring the local area.

We found our accommodation clean, comfortable and the airconditioning and fan worked well. The breeze from the bay is wonderful on those sultry days.

Our only small comments are that the pool needed to be filtered more often as it's clean but cloudy, and the hot and cold handles in the shower in the Pentecoste room needed to be switched around. We forgot to mention this before we left. We also had to keep asking for refreshed milk supplies, but once we asked, we got them straight away. An electric frypan in the room would be a useful addition to the kitchen set-up. Elizabeth in particular was very helpful with local knowledge and looked after us very well.

We found the Lodge very private, quiet and with no intrusion from the staff. When we were in the mood for mixing with others, we would go resort hopping just to have a look. We did think though that staying in a smaller place definitely had its advantages. We would go back to Fatumaru.

  • Liked — The location, view and breezes.
  • Disliked — Tiny kitchen space, freezer didn't freeze and limited bench space in bathroom.
