Travelers, passing through Port Vila and looking for a unique place to stay, should defiantly try Villa Chaumieres.
The service, the location right at the lagoon and the amazing food provided through their restaurant impressed us. We felt extremely comfortable and looked after. We hope that we will be enjoying the hospitality sometime in the future again. Until then, we wish the whole team all the best and are grateful for making our stay unforgettable.

With kind regards,
Dietrich,Gabriele and Stephanie Zoll, Berlin

Vila Chaumieres, restaurant is the perfect location for a wonderful dining experience.
We were served by Elise who greeted us pleasantly and then was most obliging with any requests, the venue is perfect also.On arrival one walks through a gently lit garden area until you arrive at the dock side restaurant.over looking,in fact right on the Lagoon.Soft lighting and gently lapping water and wonderful food makes for the perfect night out.All the taxi and bus drivers know the location and I would bet that this would be one of the special moments of your Vanuatu experience

We decided to travel to the beautiful lands of Vanuatu for our first ever holiday, and were unaware of what to expect or what we would encounter when we arrived.

Whilst researching places to stay and activities, Vila Chaumieres came up on lastminute.com and I thought I would give them a call to ask some questions. Tracy (manager) was more than willing to help, and even organised transfers for us from the airport to the resort.

Upon arrival at Port Vila, we were greeted by a friendly driver for Melanesian Tours to take us back to Vila Chaumieres and the process was easy and fuss free, Tracy organised this for us and it made an easy transition from a hot and crowded airport to a lovely resort. From the moment we arrived at Vila Chaumieres, Tracy, Alec, Jen and Elise were very helpful and made our stay much more enjoyable; at times it seemed they enjoyed having us there more than we enjoyed staying there. The staff were always on hand to assist with bookings for day activities or night time dinner reservations for other restaurants (which surprised us as you would think they would only want you to eat there), but the staff just want you to experience all that you can of Vanuatu and have the best time possible.

We were pleased with the service from Vila Chaumieres, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I think the stand out part of our holiday was the food at Vila Chaumieres. We tried almost every restaurant / cafe in Port Vila during our stay (we are real foodies and we like variety) and found that none of the food even compared to what we had at Vila Chaumieres. Samson would have to be in the running for the best chef award this year, as the steak and the famous Coconut Crab (you must try this, its something we will be back for) were higlights of our trip (as I mentioned, we are real foodies). The Choc mousse and cocktails (Colada Chaumieres) were also outstanding.

The staff were more than willing to assist and please, and the service was great. We could not fault them, and had no issues at all during our stay there. The rooms were always cleaned every morning, and fresh flowers were placed in the room every day or two which was a lovely touch.

The breakfast service was great.... just clarifying this, as they may have improved since previous reviews. My partner and I found the fruit, juice and bread to be delicious and looked forward to this fruit feast every morning, as it was a great start to the day.

Thankyou so much to all the staff for making our stay such a pleasurable one, your service and assistance with info made our stay easier and much more enjoyable, as your advice gave us more chance to expereince more of beautiful Vanuatu. Will be in touch in 12 months to come back.

Kellie & Steve :-)

We enjoyed the best food in Vanuatu & the most romantic dinner of our honeymoon at Vila Chaumieres. Gilbert, the owner, was a wonderfully gracious host. We stayed in the cosy room right above the restaurant with a gorgeous view over the lagoon for the last night of our honeymoon. In Port Vila, there is a raft of very overpriced, large, characterless resorts. This is the antithesis. The accommodations are a great value &, of course, the food as I already mentioned is amazing. It is just a bit out of town situated right on a lagoon which makes is very peaceful. It is easy to hop on one of the frequent public buses to get into town. The image is taken at sunset from the balcony of our room. We only wish we could have stayed longer & enjoyed more of your incredible food & the tranquility of staying right on the lagoon. Thank you for everything Gilbert!

Let's start this review by stating that we loved Vila Chaumiere, warts and all.

The property comprises a small number of 'bures' set in a lovely tropical garden on the banks of Emden Lagoon (known as second lagoon), about 4km outside Port Vila. Since Port Vila is a small, noisy, VERY 3rd world town (NB: NOT city), being 4kms out is a huge plus. Vila Chaumiere is quiet, but on the main round island road. We never waited more than 2 to 3 mins for a bus to Vila (price 100 vatu) nor did we ever have any issues getting a bus directly back. ('Bus" means something like a Toyota Tarago.) Rooms are spacious, clean, air conditioned or naturally ventilated (your choice - there's lots of louvres). Beds are very comfortable, and there's unlimited hot water at good pressure. Tea and coffee making facilities (and supplies) are provided, along with a decent refrigerator. We did have to ask for extra milk occasionally, but there were no hassles in getting it. The reasonably priced good French whites we found in the Port Vila supermarkets (esp Bon Marche) found their way back to the in-room frig.

We found the management and staff of Vila Chaumiere to be friendly, obliging, semi-amateurish and laid back. Don't expect every demand to be met instantly, but demands will be satisfied. Just have a touch of patience. The overall effect, however, was immensely satisfying. Sheer friendliness and willingness to please goes an awfully long way.

The property has an EXCELLENT restaurant - for dinner at least. (We didn't try lunch, so cannot comment.) Breakfast was ordinary - lovely tropical fruit and juice followed by mediocre bread, croissant, butter and jam. Tea and coffee was OK but overall, Vila Chaumiere could be so much better with a less amateurish breakfast service. On the up side, the restaurant is built over the lagoon, and all meals provided an exhilarating fish and crab feeding experience. The little critters sure know where to expect a regular feed! We'd recommend at least one evening meal be taken at Vila Chaumiere. Ir was at least as good as any other restaurant we discovered in Port Vila. There's a Melanesian spicy fish dish (sorry - forget the name) that is definitely 'to die for'!!

Vila Chaumiere is a "kid free" zone. They don't accept under 15s. For us, that was a huge PLUS. The noisiest aspect of the property are the birds. Come dawn, they all want to get their voices heard. What a tough way to wake in paradise.

  • Liked — Ambience and willingness to please
  • Disliked — Amaeurish breakfast

We went to this restaurant on the premise the food was good, but the setting was outstanding. you get dropped off by the taxi at the end of a little path through the bushes, and at the end of the lantern lit pathway was a beautiful (small) restaurant overlooking the lagoon. The restaurant probably only seated 50 people.

We booked a table next to tjhe water (and this is a must - as advised by other tripadvisor reviews).

The conversation is stilted due to you both looking down at the water and feeding the fish your bread - which is served upon arrival.

The cocktail list is very small, and they didnt defer from what was listed - so we ended up getting gin n tonic. The wine list was good, and the food was good, but all very expensive. Was by far the most expensive restaurant we went too.

A note from the people sitting next to us, they ordered the seafood platter and it came with Coconut Crab - which is a land crab. So that was rather strange. They didnt recomment the platter, and it was also very expensive.

I recommend going for the view and the romantic nature, but the food was expensive and not the best in town.

Vila Chaumieres is the most romantic of restaurants in a quiet and simply stunning location. I have been there on two different trips to Vanuatu and both times the experience was magical and memorable. Located on the edge of Erakor Lagoon the restaurant is a simple fare like structure on the very edge of the lagoon. The water is lit to attract fish and crabs which makes for free entertainment as you enjoy your meal. The palm trees across the narrow lagoon are also lit and look romantic and ghostly. The food is top notch and the service excellent. The new owner is a friendly and hospitable man who made us feel welcome and as if were eating in his own home. On the first occasion I dined there large white blossoms floated past us every now in and then, as if someone was upstream dropping them in the water just for us...it was so romantic it nearly brought tears to my eyes. I will never go back to Vanuatu without enjoying an evening at Vila Chaumieres...a real highlight!
