“Excellent base for genuine Vanuatu experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

The grounds and amenities of Le Lagon are excellent. We travelled with our ten year old and 18-mth toddler. As a couple we got to catch up on missed dates, thanks to the fantastic babysitting service, and Kids Club. As travellers we like to explore the country we are in, so our time spent at the resort was appreciated. As in, we often ventured out on tours, into town for dinners, across the lagoon to Erakor (which is beautiful)... so when we got back to the resort afterwards, we happily fell into the beautiful pool to soak up the sun and relax.

We found the best way to experience Efate as a family was to hire a car and go at our own pace. It only takes a few hours. We also went zorbing (brilliant), hung out at Mele Cascades, and spent a lazy day at the laid back Beach Bar, which has a real beach, friendly staff, good music, water toys for kids, and yummy pizza.

If money isn't your only motivation, I would advise against the all-inclusive food package, as you might get "buffet fatigue", and not ever leave the resort. I'm glad we didn't opt for it.

My only annoyance with our trip was listening to other travellers complaining about things that don't matter when you're on holiday. Things are slower in Vanuatu, and accepting a different culture is all part of the experience of being away from home.

We had the most amazing views from our villa on the lagoon, palm trees, locals fishing from their canoes, bright red star fish at low tide. The slow pace matched our need for a relaxing holiday. We took an electric coffee maker so could enjoy a morning coffee watching life on the lagoon at our leisure. Anna on the tour desk at reception did a great job organsing adventures for us and the 13yr old; Hideaway Island, Zego boats and Zorbing were on the list as well as dinner at La Tentation in Port Vila.

We stayed at Le Lagon in September 2012. We were holidaying with my parents, 2 brothers and our 2 kids (aged 2 and 4).
We were in a lagoon room right in front of the water. (parents and brothers had their own rooms). Everything about our stay was fantastic. If i had one complaint, it would be how long food took to come when it was ordered at lunch time or from the room service menu. It didn't worry me but when kids are hungry they are hungry and they don't like to wait. Apart from that, the food was delicious!! Our bathroom was huge. The kids had a blast at the pool, and loved going in the canoe on the lagoon.
We didn't use the kids club because the kids came on all our tours with us, except for one where they stayed with my parents by the pool. However if they had been a little older i'm sure they would have loved to go to the kids club, it looked fabulous. And we didn't make use of the spa as we were too busy seeing everything Port Vila and Efate had to offer.
I would absolutely recommend the buggy tours. It was a wonderful experience. Also the Reef Explorer tour for the kids was fantastic. They had swim vests and pool noodles to help the kids when they went swimming/snorkeling and helped the kids back into the semi submersible to watch the fish underwater while we had a snorkel. The kids loved seeing soo many fish, particularly "nemo". Cascade waterfalls is also a must see!! We took a taxi though instead of going on an organised tour so we didn't have time constraints getting up there and back with the kids.
Another highlight of our trip was making friends with a local worker (from the sunset cruise), he then invited us back to his island (Ifira) and showed us around. An experience you won't get from a tour. What a champ. Needless to say, we are in the process of organizing a thank you gift to send back to him.
Overall, Vanuatu is an excellent holiday destination. Le Lagon was the perfect place to stay!! I'd recommend it to anybody.

Room Tip: room 314 was fantastic!!

We stayed at the Le Lagon as a family of four Mum, dad and two children 5 and 7.
This resort as a whole is fantastic, however as a family, the Lagoon Superior Room was a little tight. Yes I know you don't go on holidays to stay in your room, but this was a little small.
I would be lucky to rate this room as a 3 star quality compared to the other accomodation here.
* No fans * The air con just blew an ever slight breeze. *24 hours to fix a constant running toilet.
We asked for an upgrade (which we were willing to pay for) however the staff did not want to entertain this, I don't know why.
The facilites at this resort are pretty good. The boys enjoyed their time here as well as us the parents.
The food was pretty good but we did get a little tired of the buffet. We missed the seafood night which is meant to be a highlight, but for a tropical island we expected more seafood and we only saw the odd fish dish on other nights.
Not much tropical fruits on display, which I thought would be abundant, with some canned fuits.
The golf course and tennis courts are really good, however no bikes which was a real disappointment. Myself and another guest requested bikes on several occasions however the staff were not very accomodating.
We would be happy to stay here again, however we wil pick the Garden Bungalow at minimum and grab some food away from the resort. And make sure there are bikes to ride.

Room Tip: The Superior Rooms are not that superior. Consider the Garden Bungalows.

We stayed at Le Lagon (the local pronunciation is more French than the English 'lagoooon') for a week with our girl (7) and boy (10). We all had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this resort. The only negative comment I have is that the local staff are a bit undertrained and running on local time. For example housekeeping left no sugar for tea and coffee in our room. I rang housekeeping who said they were sending some over but it never came. It's a minor example. All the staff were uniformly cheery and helpful. I suspect the local culture is very laid back and hotel management hasn't quite got on top of it yet. Maybe they shouldn't - it is a tropical resort after all. For a family holiday this was just part of the fun, but if I was here on business it would have been more of an issue. Enough of that because to dwell on it distracts from the fabulous buffet breakfasts and dinners, the great facilities, and the warm and welcoming staff. Our girl loved the kids club where the staff were very nice and the kids had lots of great activities such as bonfires, hermit crab races, grass skirt making and lots more. Our boy loved the canoes, kayaks and sailboats available for free hire from the resort and we all loved exploring the lagoon and erakor island. The pool is great. The lagoon is very child friendly (you could probably walk across at low tide). Our lagoon superior room was modern, comfortable and had a million dollar view. We booked two tours through the resort which were both really good (Mele falls & secret garden with Evergreen and Blue lagoon and Turtle feeding with Atmosphere). The local guides were great characters with good english. We all had a great time and would highly recommend this place for a family holiday.

We have recently returned from a wonderful holiday at Le Lagon in Vanuatu. This was our second stay, the previous one being in 2009. The fact that we returned to the resort is a recommendation in itself, as this is not something I usually do. The rooms on each of our stays were beautiful and clean. In 2009 we stayed in room 111, a lagoon superior, and this stay we were lucky enough to receive a free upgrade to room 313, a lagoon view bungalow.
The staff are simply delightful, with a special mention to Graham the friendly plumber, and Inneth who's beautiful smiling face lit up our mornings at beakfast. The people are humble, warm, friendly, genuine and take the time to have a chat with you, which is a refreshing change from our busy western lifestyle.
The resort grounds, gardens and lagoon views are simply stunning. We were most impressed with the recent improvements, including the new wedding deck, Oasis spa, tennis courts and Conference Centre.
We also felt the food had improved since our prior visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed all our meals which included an extensive breakfast buffet, evening buffets and a beautiful evening at Wild Ginger.
The only disappointment was the wait for service, when we needed help with the odd thing in our room. It could take several hours, and sometimes until the following day for someone to come after calling the concierge, for example when we had trouble with locking/unlocking our room safe. However I accept that this is 'Island time', so don't be in a hurry if you need something fixed!
However, this did not detract from my overall love of Vanuatu and Le Lagon, and I intend to return next year and hopefully the following with the intention of celebrating our wedding at Le Lagon.
The pools are stunning, we enjoyed use of the catamarans, tennis courts and simply walking over the beautiful grounds and admiring the impeccably maintained grounds and spectacular scenery.
For any new to Vanuatu visitors I would also recommend the amazing Mele Cascade Waterfalls, Tamanu on the Beach Restaurant, and Nambawan Cafe where you can enjoy a free outdoor movie several nights a week.
Thankyou to the staff at Le Lagon and all the beautiful ni-Vanuatu people for making our stay another memorable, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday :) Tankyu tumas

We just arrived home after spending 8 nights in a garden superior room. Although it was a short walk to the water and pools, we were tucked away at the back which made it very quiet without any 'traffic'. Rooms were always seviced beautifully and were very close to kids club which was handy as we travelled with our 10 and 6 year old and friends and their 9 year old. Resort grounds are immaculate and people friendly. I have read many reviews about waiting at the bars for drinks, we didn't have any problem with service, you just have to speak up and get their attention and they are on it. We spent most of our days around the resort but mainly ate in town as it's pretty pricey at the restaurants here. Staff are lovely and helpful, hats off to Fiona from the pool bar that looked after our families and the young guys who kept our kids entertained with pool volleyball and beach soccer! We all loved Vanuatu and would come back here, my only fault was the lack of variety at breakfast and as much as our kids loved kids club, it wasn't always free! Little extras here and there which I didn't think was necessary. But overall, Le Legon is paradise!
