“Nearly There”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Just returned from an 8 night stay at Holiday Inn Vanuatu and thought we should get a review in whilst everything is fresh in our minds. Travelled as a family, looking for r&r (mum and dad anyway), sun, fun and good accommodation.

The Holiday Inn was a hit in may respects - and a miss with a few as well (shall get to those later). On the positive side:
The Room - we had a lagoon view room. It was clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable and the pillows fantastic!
Housekeeping - congratulations to the ladies responsible for this. They did a great job day in day out with a minimum of fuss. It was a pleasure to come back to our room at the end of a day out to find the room in such good order. I doubt they get to many accolades, so well done!
Activities Team - great group of guys. Always had a smile on their faces, said hello every time you walked past the hut and spent heaps of time entertaining the many kids in the resort
Breakfast Team - Much has been said in other reviews about the breakfast. It was good for sure, but not so good that I need to spend time raving about it.

On the negative side:
The Pool Bar - we were at the resort 8 nights, so we had a decent amount of time to assess. The guys in this area need a serious personality injection (maybe watch the activities guys for a while). You certainly don't get that tropical island, bar staff happily chatting away, smiling and tossing cocktails around feel. We really think management need to get these guys to spark up a little.

2.30am Call to Reception - 7 of our 8 nights were quiet as a church mouse once we were in bed for the night. Unfortunately 1 wasn't. The room next to us was making excessive noise at 2.30am. Our understanding was nobody was booked in said room. Guessing it was staff unwinding?? can't be sure but to the credit of those on duty, within minutes of our call being placed, security had resolved / removed the problem and not another word was heard.

The Pool Itself - was probably a little cool. This wasn't just our opinion....we spoke to other holidaymakers and got the same vibe from them.

Shall leave it there as I don't want readers to get the impression we had a negative experience as that most certainly wasn't the case! Our kids had an absolute ball, the grounds, the lagoon the views etc are all great.

Just 1 final tip - if you have girls and they insist upon hair braiding......get it done at kids club. They do a much better job than you get at the markets in town. We know this because our girls got their's done in town only to have them fall apart in a day or so. The kids club ladies did an awesome job!

Good Morning Smiggle11

Thank you for the review.

Overall it sounds like you and the family had a great time and I know the housekeeping team will be be very giggling a lot when we read them your review but will also be very proud to have been acknowledged. Sorry to hear about being disturbed on one of the nights by some other guests within the resort and I can assure you that it wasn't any of the team. The pool bar team are almost mentioned as many times as the activities team in our guest feedback so this feedback is very surprising but we will certainly take it on-board to see if we need to make some changes.

Look forward to welcoming you all back to Vanuatu in the future.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

My wife, daughter and I just got back home from staying at this resort. I have to say that I didn't expect a Holiday Inn brand to be what I expected, in fact I expected much better. I used to have the perception that HI brands are cheap and low budget hotels. The resort offers an ample amount of free activities to choose from and it caters well for children. The lagoon is clean and nice to swim at, it is also teeming with fish life. The resort however offers limited dining choice as it only has one restaurant so it is best to spend about AU$6 for a taxi and head into town to dine.

The service received is great and the staff are always willing to help; even the managerial staff are out helping out front of house during busy periods. Even noticed Thomas Tat (The General Manager) help out at the Verandah Restaurant during the breakfast rush. We specially love the team at the Totel Kids Club, they were great at looking after our daughter. Special mention to Mariam and Selena who our daughter gotten to like and attached to at the Kids Club. Honourable mention to Kimberley Hassell for looking after our needs and organising the Romantic Dinner for our 10th year anniversary. The boys at the Activities Team are a bunch of awesome and fun blokes. I had one of them offered to take me back to our villa with the boat after swimming from our villa to the activities area.

During our visit at Vanuatu we accommodated one of the family beach front villas (403). This villa was a perfect home away from home for us. Our 2.5 years old daughter loves hanging out at the verandah looking out to the water and checking out the starfish and other fish life. The villa is very comfortable and very peaceful. The birds always make sure you are up and ready for a day ahead as you will hear them chirp away early in the morning (5AM on the dot to be exact). The villa has a nice and clean mini-beach that you could swim and for kids to play. The island where the villas are situated also has its own little private beach with hammock and deck chairs. It's a nice little spot away from everyone else, truly was my favourite spot in the property . We had free WiFi internet access with our stay in the villa however it was slow and unusable at times.

The villa was adequately maintained, the only issue we had was that the blinds were not screwed into the wall properly so we had to be careful opening and closing it. The wooden sliding door occasionally comes off the railings and sometimes can be a little hard to open. There was no door handle on the fly screen which made it hard to close and open. The room wasn't I expected it to be, the room is actually quite smaller and shorter than what is advertised in the Hi website and other HI publications. I would suggest HI change this picture on their publications as soon as possible as this is false advertising. The villa could do some improvement such as utilising the ceiling void by transforming the space into a mezzanine bedroom for kids. We found that the lounge area that doubles as our daughter's sleeping area very inconvenient, it was hard for us to utilise the space once our daughter was asleep. As it was mainly dry during our stay here, I would also recommend that HI invest a mini water tanker to wet the path once or twice daily as the path to the villa gets fairly dusty and dry.

The Pool Bar and in room dining menus offer very limited choices and extremely pricy. I had the BBQ Meat Lovers pizza and it contained a lot more corn and other vegetables than meat that it should have been named "Vegetable Lovers Pizza!!"

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Holiday Inn Resort and it was a memorable one. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a memorable and a comfortable one.

Thank you tomas!

Good Morning TobylDog

Thank you for the review and celebrating such a special occasion with us!

Great to see you had aenjoyable time with us and the Holiday Inn Resort brand is growing with several other Holiday Inn Resorts due to open within the region over the next couple of years. Some very good feedback on the Vila for us to work on and you will behappy to hear we have a complete menu change occurring next week and within the next 4 weeks our Pizza oven will operational at the pool bar. One of the benefits of Vanuatu over other South Pacific destinations is the accessibility to some fantastic dining options from the market house stalls to Restaurants with views out over the ocean the choice is yours.

Look forward to welcoming you back for your next celebration in the near future.

We recently had our conference in Holiday Inn and their conference facility was nice and could was good in accommodating for our 75 people over a period of 3 days. In organising this meeting, i found the staff very helpful and were quite experience in hosting such events.
The rooms are comfortable, and having stayed in other Holiday Inn hotels, we were not disappointed.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and assisted us throughout our stay in Holiday Inn.
The daily breakfast is to dies for, together with the other meals- that we had at the resort.

I am definetly recommending Holiday Inn to any other organisation that might want to hold meetings or conferences there.

Firs time in vanuatu we wanted to play it safe. Some friends suggested this was a good start. Our previous experiences with HI also gave us confidence. We weren't disappointed. Our package included pickup at 2am complete with welcome and beads. The hotel has a lovely entrance, beautiful gardens and although a little old the rooms were well decorated and comfortable. Everything worked and there was close access to everything, albeit there are lots of steps. We ate at the hotel often and prices seemed normal with quality consistent. Breakfast was great. Seems popular with families because of the kids eat free and activities. This can be a negative but there is an adults only pool. The hotel does seem to face the East where most of the prevailing wind come from, but there is plenty of shelter. Kayaks and catamarans are lots of fun. The gym is too small, with not enough equipment, but it is holidays and you can always go for a swim or paddle in the lagoon. You need a taxi ($5) or a van ($3) to get to or from Port Vila. The real positive is the staff. They are wonderful, a usual HI trait. But people in general here are very friendly and a pleasure to get to know. In general the hotel is a nice retreat from the township and is recommended. Would we stay here again? We would probably try another island like Santo before coming back to Port Vila.

Good Afternoon VFrequentTravellers

Thank you for the review.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourselves whilst staying with us but as you have found out there are many islands in Vanuatu to explore and Santo is the biggest with some very unique experiences to be had. You will find more and more Holiday Inn Resorts in the region with several new properties due to open in Bali, Thailand and Vietnam in the next 12-18 months but unfortunately I cannot see one being opened in Santo in the near future so you might just have to drop in one your way through for a night!

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.

We stayed here after staying at aquana beach resort it took a little adjusting coming from a boutique family run resort to a huge crazy busy hotel.
Look it was not my fav place in the world the food is average the building a little tiresome if you like a big resort feel then go for it ... but pretty sub standard. Lots of kids everywhere so great for kids
pros close to town & plenty restaurants & sights to see.

Thank you for the review.

You are spoiled for choice in Vanuatu with so many varied experiences both in terms of accommodation and activities sorry to hear that we didn't meet your expectations on this trip. We are one of the largest resorts in Vanuatu and with that comes the varied dining options, entertainment, kids club and water sports but as you said its not for everyone and a little research can go a long way.

Sounds like Vanuatu overall though was a positive experience and trust that it will become a destination of choice in the future.

We stayed here after staying at Paradise Cove resort with two kids 6 and 7. After staying at a small resort it took us adults some time to adjust. But the kids loved it the pools and the kids club. The free kids meals are a real bonus.

The fire show on Wednesday and the kava show on Thursday were also good. The rooms were comfortable with of storage and very clean. At the five star level expected.

We found the food overall disappointing. Maybe we were spoilt at Paradise Cove. Also found cant swim in the lagoon. Although kayaking was good.

Overall a well kept resort ideal for a holiday with small kids. Wouldn't be first choice without kids, lots of nicer smaller boutique resorts in Vanautu.

Good Morning Des S

Thank you for your review.

Sounds like the kids had a great time although you can swim in the Lagoon which is tidal allows water sports from sunrise to sunset but not the best for snorkeling. Sorry to hear that the food didi't meet your expectations on this stay we will introduce of our wood fired pizza in the coming weeks to further enhance the dining options.

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.

Mum Dad and two boys 6 and 8.
Don't get me wrong by the title, a recent refurb has sparked this resort.
We had a fantastic time here. We stayed at the Warwick Le Lagon about 1 year prior and the Holiday Inn wins easily. Better food and a fantastic view from the restaurant. But the dinner buffet did get a little boring so we opted for the Tapas menu in the lobby bar and the pool side menu as well. (we didn't try the a la carte menu nor the room service which both were tempting)
We also opted for the room upgrade during our visit into a family villa at 8000vu per night (we could have grabbed the family suite also at 7000vu per night) The villa was fantastic, spa, loads of room , over the water balcony.

The only issue we encountered was the noise from a nearby village, dogs barking/fighting and that bloody rooster. We could only hear it from the villa not the rooms.
Oh sorry, the other issue was the Villas are some distance from the resort complex, about a 500m walk, but the weather was great and the walk gave us more family bonding, (we did call and used the cart service when we had a few too many or were a bit lazy.

The staff were fantastic, we were ALWAYS greeted, always loved a quick chat, oh watch out for Noella she's cheeky.

The resort has continuous activities, two pools (one has attached a toddler section), golf, tennis court, kayaks, volleyball, beach soccer and jumping castles, rumours indicate a woodfired pizza option in the near future (yes I was reading the local paper jobs section).

Taxi 500vu into town. 2500vu each way to Hideaway island. 3000vu to Cascades. They have resident taxi's at the front door. Try to use them others tend to rip you off.

Room Tip: If you are looking at the upgrade inquire when you first arrive. We were pleasantly surprised by the...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

Sounds like we need to track down a certain roster for a little Vanuatu chat! The taxi's on resort have all agreed to set prices to most areas around Efate so that you are well aware of the cost before leaving and also how much Vatu you may need for the ride as they don't carry much change on them.

Did you leave us a resume for the Pizza Che role? I can confirm though our pizza oven is in Vila all the way from Italy and now we just need to do the easy part......install it!

Look forward to welcoming you back to Vanuatu in the near future.
