“Great resort and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

We stayed at Nasama recently and had a wonderful break thanks to the location, accomodation and staff. 10 minutes out of Port Vila by local bus and a short walk or bus ride to other resorts is far enough away to provide added peace and quiet, but close enough to allow a wide range of options for activities and dining. The cooking facilities in the rooms (cooktop, microwave, toaster and kettle) and in the resort (BBQ) allow for good self catering if you wish, with supermarkets and local shops close by and a limited range of essentials at the reception shop. The starter pack of cooking oil, salt and pepper is a good idea and saves buying these when you only need small amounts. Alternatively, there are lots of restaurants in resorts close by if you want to avoid a ride into Vila. Nasama is on the smaller side and has large grounds with a number of different places to hang out; pool, kids pool, BBQ area, beach, or your balcony or patio all of which have great outlooks to the ocean which is just a few steps away from your room. The local busses are fantastic - wave your hand and they will pick you up and drop you wherever you like for a small fixed amount per person; sometimes with the added bonus of island music, interior disco lights, or conversation about good places to eat or things to see.
The Nasama staff are very helpful - particularly Elizabeth who recommended specific tour operators (not the big ones) for a more authentic island tour, and arranged airport transfers for us. Chanel also made sure we were pleasantly introduced to the room and facilities and made sure we had everything we needed. Being a new resort there was still a bit of work being done on the grounds but this is mainly tidying up and adding landscaping so shouldn't inconvenience anyone. Vanuatu itself is so handy to Sydney (except for the stupid flight times) that we will certainly return and when we do, I am sure we will be staying at Nasama.

Nasama’s distance from the centre of Vila should be no deterrent: local buses drive along Pango Road regularly and frequently. Being four kilometres from the traffic chaos and tourist-shops probably contributes to its peace, comforts and the feeling that you are surrounded by the real Vanuatu.
The resort’s rooms are spacious, comfortable, tastefully decorated and appointed, and clean. We were provided with milk, biscuits, tea and Tanna coffee, … and further provisions can be found in the Reception/Store.
From our room and our balcony, we looked out at an infinity pool, and gardens with Melanesian shrubs and gaudily-coloured flowers. And beyond, the lagoon, Erakor Island and beyond: during our four days’ stay, the mood of the lagoon varied drom greens, turquoises and perfect calm to gunmetal skies, grey waters, waves and rough breakers.
While we could relax in the resort’s pool, swimming in the natural coral pool adjoining Nasama’s beach was much more enjoyable.
The manager, Paul, is very knowledgable: about Vanuatu, … and beyond. And the people working at the resort are, without exception, lovely, friendly and so obliging.
Would we return? Doubtlessly!

We stayed at Nasama Resort over Christmas/New Year and were under the impression that it is the best place to stay. The room was very comfortable and nicely appointed, with a fabulous large balcony overlooking the bay and the beautiful pool. I could actually watch, from my comfortable king size bed, the waves coming in, and the early morning sunrise. The staff were very helpful and the room was serviced daily.
Nasama does not yet have a restaurant, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the adjacent Breakas Resort. Breakas' restaurant is literally on the beach; the food is excellent and not overpriced; a cocktail at sunset is wonderfully relaxing. However, we liked our room at Nasama more, so it was a good compromise - stay at Nasama; eat and drink at Breakas.
A must do in Vanuatu is to walk up the Mele Cascades all the way - the waterfall has to be one of the most picturesque anywhere, but it does involve walking in water across rocks but absolutely well worth the effort if you are fit enough. It is not difficult, and a rope handrail is provided just in case you slip.
So - yes - I am more than happy to recommend Nasama. Let them organise transport to and from the airport - more expensive than a bus, but worth it for the reliability of a decent vehicle and someone to help with your luggage.

Room Tip: We were in room 112 - first floor. All rooms are good, I would think.

We stayed at Nasama over the Christmas period in room 114. The resort is new with beautiful views. Our rooms were serviced each day and everything was of a high standard. We chose nasama so that we had the option to cook our own meals. The resort is about ten minutes from town but we had no issues with catching the frequent buses that go past. Our highlight of our trip was the staff, and especially Elizabeth. She would always take the time to ask about our day and tours and provide any assistance she could.

The Nasama is a fairly new resort so not many locals had heard of it. I found it easiest to saying "near Breakas" or "on Pango Road". The property is still a work in progress with a number of apartments still being finished. However there was no noise issues and the workmen were all friendly (as were all the ni-Vanuatu we met). It isn't a resort as such, so don't expect restaurants, bars, kids clubs, activities, etc. Apart from the rooms, there is a pool, BBQ area and small beach. The property is pretty big with mostly grass at the front and a dirt road from the front down to the apartments. It wasn't fully landscaped compared to other resorts so don't expect lush tropical gardens and paving everywhere (who needs that anyway). All the apartments are near the pool and beach and far away from the main road, so it was nice and quiet. It is a real shame about the place next door as you can see many half finished concrete buildings that have been abandoned (a resort development that fell through perhaps). The resort is self catering which helps to keep costs down but there are so many restaurants/cafes around if you want to do that.

Our apartment (117) was lovely. It was modern, well furnished and had a large flat screen TV. The kitchen had a full sized fridge, cooktop, microwave but no oven. The supermarket (best is Au Bon Marche at Numbatu) is about 10 minutes in the local bus (150vatu or about A1.50 per person and they come past every couple of minutes). Our apartment balcony had fantastic views over the beach and towards Erakor Island and lagoon. We sat out there often and just soaked up the view. Coming from Australia, I was concerned about the lack of fly screens on the balcony doors. The greatest myth from all my reading about Vanuatu is the insects. I arrived with heaps of tropical strength insect repellant and left with them all unopened. I don't know if it was the time of year for no mosquito's, but there simply weren't any (not at the resort or at any of the places we went). So having the balcony doors wide open during the day and evening caused no problem at all. I admit we weren't eco friendly and at night we closed the doors and slept with the air conditioner on. Because the resort is new, all apartments have split systems which were nice and quiet. I noticed that many other resorts (cheaper ones) don't have air-cond rooms so that is something to look out for.
The front office has a basic shop, tour brochures and staff were helpful with information. We took trips to the Mele Cascades, Iririki Island Resort, Eton Beach, Blue Lagoon, Erakor Island and shopping downtown. My favourite was snorkelling in Erakor lagoon while on Erakor Island. Least favourite was Port Vila downtown. Mostly Chinese shops selling rubbish and there is garbage everywhere on the streets (piles of it). You will only need an hour or two to visit downtown and get your duty-free and visit some of the more genuine handycraft markets.

Nasama fitted us perfectly. A quiet spot, beautiful rooms, great views. You won't get pampered like some other resorts but they make you pay for it anyway with expensive on-site restaurants and hire charges for everything. After pre-paying the accommodation for Nasama, we weren't charged a cent extra!

The Nasama resort is very new, and we could tell this the moment we stepped through our room's door. There was no smell, brocken appliances or bugs. The rooms are tastefully decorated and are very well equipped with a large fridge, digital stovetop, quiet air con, large flatscreen tv and an ipod dock, all of which we gladly used on a daily basis. Our room was the closest to the sea, except for newly opened 1 bedroom suites, and had an amazing view of the beach, lagoon and Erakor Island. From our room, we could hear the sound of waves breaking and that was just priceless. We cooked every day and, in that sense, we felt outmost in control because we did not have to look for restaurants, worry about where to go and what to order. So, the fact that the Nasama resort doesn't have a restaurant was a bonus for us because it meant more privacy and peace and quiet. Speaking of restaurants, there aren't any within a walking distance anyway unless you are brave enough to walk on the main road with no sidewalks in the darkness (it gets dark around 7pm in Vanuatu in December) to find dinner. Of course, there are plenty of buses/taxis around, but that adds an extra hassle factor if you ask me. The pool at the Nasama resort is large and warm. The lagoon, however, wasn't so popular for swimming because of corals. Actually, we were quite dissapointed to find the resort being completely cut off from other resorts by walls of corals. But we found a way around this by kayaking to the nearby Erakor island, which has some nice snorkelling spots and even a bush walk. Overall, our stay at the Nasama resort was very comfortable. The only thing that annoyed us was the fact that our room didn't have one of those 'do not disturb' signs. So, we were constantly bothered by house keeping and other staff knocking on our door at random times of the day. And lastly, we loved the Vanuatu climate in December/January. Compared to other Pacific Islands, it doesn't rain as much and it's not so humid. And it hardly has any mosquitos, at least that's the case for Port Vila.

Nasama resort is a new accomodation by the beach. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our stay was comfortable with air-condition available in all rooms. The rooms were equiped with an Ipod dock, which we used everyday. Bathrooms were very clean, and up to standard. The resort is close to the city, and buses come regularly, approx every 3 - 5 minutes. BBQ pits and water sport activities such as Kayaks are available for hire without a cost.We strongly recommend this resort to couples, families and friends! A group of 7 of us definitely enjoyed our stay with you! Hope to see you soon!

Room Tip: Ground floor units lead directly to the beach. Great for outdoor dining as well.
