“Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

Just got back from 2 wonderful weeks staying at Surfside on Breakas Beach, Vanuatu. What a beautiful location, just paradise. The villa we stayed in was right on the beach. It was a good size for my family, each having a bedroom and own bathroom. The private pool and BBQ area was really good too. The villas were very nice and clean and they were serviced daily. The staff were always friendly and helpful. They helped us book tours and transfers and recommended places to visit. The resort shop was handy as we were able to get bread, milk and snacks. My family liked swimming at the beach in the afternoon when the local kids come to swim. They were so friendly and such fun. We can't wait to return here again for our next holiday. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing place to stay.
Beautiful villas with snorkelling or surfing at the front door and suitable for both
couples or a family.
The Manager is very helpful in arranging accommodation to suit your needs.
We spent 5 of our 10 day Vanuatu holiday here and were sorry that we couldn't stay longer.
Whilst very peaceful and quiet, the little local bus or taxi is always available at the front door for visits to town and beyond. (150 Vatu to town p.p.).
There's an on site store for food items or if you wish just stroll 100 metres along the beach to Breakas Beach Resort Restaurant.
A great place and we hope to return one day soon.

Room Tip: All accommodation faces the Beach - you won't be disappointed.

We recently spent almost two weeks staying at Surfside Villas and cannot speak highly enough of our time there. Our family had the best holiday we've ever had. Our Villa was beautifull with a strip of sand separating the front of our villa from the ocean where we enjoyed some of the best snorkelling we've ever seen. There's about 80 metres of reef before it drops off to a deeper underwater world full of the most colourful coral and marine life (although we were told the current can be strong at times) . Our villa had 3 huge rooms each with their own bathrooms and indoor/outdoor showers (which was quite an experience). We even had our own private pool at the back which the kids spent hours in. The staff keep the villa spotless and fresh and were always friendly and helpful. Nothing happens very quickly on Vanuatu time but it's a pace you soon adapt to and infact relish. Of an afternoon our kids would go down to the beach and swim with the local Ni-Van kids (an experience I'm sure they'll never forget). The manager Sam was a wealth of knowledge and arranged some great day trips for us. We'll definatly be back and have would not hesitate in recommending Surfside Villas to anyone.

We spend 8 days at Surfside on Breakas Beach, Efate, Vanuatu with my family and agree with my family members review NeilM1962 and this is my responce to the management responce to him.

1. We weren't escoted by night porters
2. The pool was cleaned after we complained but that was the last time it was cleaned during our 8 day stay. After a few days it was full of leaves and other debris and did not have chlorine added which is a no no in a hot climate
3. Vanity was supposedly fixed twice but was still leaking on departure
4.Light fitting was hanging by wires in upstairs bathroom she should check with the maintanance man who came and reattached it to the wall
5. The manager should stand in the upstairs bathroom and she will see the cochroaches scurrying around not to mention the ant plague in the kitchen
6. Fan was not working in upstairs bedroom and still was not replaced 8 days later upon our departure. Yes air con was working but some people do not like sleeping with air con on at night.
.
7. With respect to power outages we were reporting what other guests had told us that they had no power for some time. Maybe other guests were telling lies .
The comment that was made quite often by the manager was "that she had a million problems and that our issues would go on the list".

There were other issues that we did not initially raise due to their minor nature but given the manager seems to refute a review which is honest we will raise them ie no gas for the BBQ until we complained, no cooking utensils ie spatular, can opener etc until we complained, not one single bowl in the kitchen for say a salad - we had to use a saucepan - Very , very basic considering it was supposed to fully self contained. Upstairs shower cubicle tiled floor - the grout was black with mould and the shower screen kept falling off the track. So much for the welcome drink on arrival, still waiting for that.

I agree that the manager gave us AUD $10 worth of free internet usage and 6 eggs for some of the inconvenience

We spent 8 days in this dump from 24 December 2011. Let me detail some of the problems:
1 On check in we were dumped at Breakas reception, they did not want to know us, we were advised to walk 800 mtrs along the beach in the dark to find a security guard who had a key, we were doing this while trying to drag our luggage over the beach.
2 On arrival we found a green and dirty private pool in our courtyard.
3 Vanities had plumbing problems and were leaking over the floor
4 Light fittings had fallen off the wall and were hanging by bare electrical wires
5 Place was infested with cochroaches
6 Ceiling fans not working
7 Washing machine had the discharge hose disconnected unbeknown to us. We went to breakfast and returned to find the whole Villa flooded.
When we complained we were advised that they had a million problems to fix and we would go on the list. We were lucky in some respects as others villas had no electricity for several days meaning no air con, fans or refrigeration. Do yourself a favour and avid this place like the plague - Our group of 5 wouldn't rate this dump 1 Star

Room Tip: Avoid this resort

1. Due to the seperation in the properties the guests were dropped off at the wrong reception and were escorted by night porters to their accommodation.
2. Whilst not the guests probelm Vanuatu experienced 10 days of torrential rain up until 25 December and all pools were subject to problems which were resolved immediately that the rain stopped.
3. On pre occupancy inspection there were no apparent plumbing problems and when pointed out these were addressed asap. Some were recurring and were addressed as soon as possible
4. At the time of pre occupancy inspection all light fittings were in place and working, these were not reported to reception, and on checking post occupancy were not visable.
5. The Villas have natural Leaf Roofs on them and do attract insects, the Villas are also immacutaly clean and any presence of insects is due to the natural enviorment and not uncleanliness. This problem was addressed and houskeeping took extra action to spray. No further comment made by guests.
6. Fans. The top bedrood had airconditioning and a ceiling fan that was unfortunatley not working. At the end of the 4 day public holiday this was replaced with a new unit, however the air-con was operational the whole time.
7. This was indeed the case and the problem was fixed as soon as reported. Offered to launder the guests laundry at no charge and housekeeping dispatched to rectify the problem. Guests said no problem they would re wash once machine was fixed, which it was.
8. There were no other Villas without power for several days. We are subject to power spikes in the area we are located in and no Villa was without power for more than 20 minutes with minimal disruption to Air con and refrigeration. All power outages are the result of the national power company and beyond our control, but when tripped we reset the power within 10 to 15 minutes. These guests were not subject to any such outage.
9. The guests were advised that we had maintenace issues throughout the property in various Vilas and that we would attend to all issues as soon as possible. At no time was it ever inferred that they were any less important than other guests and all issues were worked through as a priority.

Our staff are diligent, caring and responsive and did all possible to assist with any problems.

Personal attacks which have appeared on forums are counter to the Trip-Advisor code of conduct and we welcome feedback from travel agents and wholesalers.

We extended every possible resource, including offering free internet usage, free produce from the Resort Boutique and every possible resource avalable to us at the time.
