My boyfriend and I went to Tamanu on the Beach for an anniversary dinner. We arrived early so we could enjoy the gorgeous scenery - the restaurant is set right on the white sand beach. We ordered cocktails, which were brought out to us as we sat on the beach watching the sun go down. The caiprioska was particularly yummy! The staff were so kind, and even offered to take a photo of the two of us.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxing and romantic - candles, low lighting and nice music. It felt like being in our own private restaurant, although there were a few other couples dining at the same time. We ordered the garlic chilli prawns to share as an entree, followed by the Vanuatu beef fillet with prawns for my boyfriend, and the gnocchi main for me. Everything was delicious, and came in generous sized portions - although I did get slight food envy, as I think the beef fillet was probably the highlight of the meal. We didn't order any wine, so can't comment on the wine list, but the fresh lime juice I got was lovely and refreshing. To finish the meal we shared the Grand Marnier souffle which had lovely delicate flavours and was perfectly cooked.
The only downside of this restaurant is that it is a little off the beaten track. We got a bus out for $15 for the two of us, which was good value considering how bumpy the road is! We did run into a bit of a problem getting back: the staff ordered us a bus, but it took between 1-1/2 hours to arrive. We didn't mind too much (just another Vanuatu adventure!), but it would be advisable to sort out return transport a little earlier in the evening to avoid long delays.
Overall a lovely restaurant and a very memorable meal. It was a little bit pricey compared to NZ restaurant prices, but in the same range as other places in Port Vila...and it was definitely worth it - the best food we ate in Vanuatu.
