“Very good budget accommodation with kitchen facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

Stayed in mid February 2014 for 2 nights - Very good budget accommodation. Approx $60 Australian per night.
Lilian and Sylvie are welcoming and make you feel comfortable and at home.
Local bus from airport to Anabru is 150VT each. May be a bit extra if you have alot or large luggage.

Our appartment had a separate bedroom, combined kitchen dining lounge room and separate shower / toilet. New pedestal fans were put in when we were there and these are more than adequate to keep you comfortable. Also had flat screen TV. Shower has plenty of hot water. Didnt hear any traffic noise at night.

Appartment had an electric cooktop, minibar fridge, microwave and cooking utensils. There is a grocery store next door that has all the basics for meals. If you want something more then walk down the hill (10 min) and you will find about 3 supermarkets and a couple of small restaurants. Local buses into town are 150 VT and pass regularly. There is also a full blown supermarket in town near the local market. Beer and alcohol available at good prices at the shop next to the BIG TUSKER bottle - you cant miss it.

Try the local market food before you buy up big on western prepackaged food. We ate nearly every day at the local market - Breakfast, lunch and occassionally dinner - dont forget to ask them to add a bit of salt. Some stalls even do takeaway - we got omlettes on rice for lunch at the airport on the way home. Only about 350-400VT each and tasty.
Make sure to try the Hot Tuluk wrapped in banana leaves - you will see the ladies with the large polystyrene boxes selling them at the market. Its meat and veg wrapped in a lap lap pastry pocket. 100VT each - best eaten fresh.

Now back to the lodge - it is very secure with a steel gate that is locked each night (you get a key) along with secruity measures on all the appartments. We felt safe at all times and walked to most places nearby including into town - Bus back though as there is a bit of a hill coming back and we had been out all day.

Summing up - Very good budget accommodation about halfway between airport and Port Vila with very helpful staff.

Slow down, relax and I hope you enjoy Vanuatu as much as we did.

In mid August we spent three nights at Anabru Pacific Lodge. It was a great place to stay, away from the centre of Port Vila and nestled into the suburbs. To get into town it was either a 15 minute walk (or stop one of the stream of minivan buses that pass by the front in a constant parade. 100 VT per person to get into town). We didn't walk at night because while it was probably perfectly safe, there were no streetlights or footpaths and its seemed a bit scary. We were provided with friendly and efficient service, the unit was clean and comfortable. On one occasion we went to the shop adjoining the units to buy a grapefruit. There were none in stock but about 5 minutes later there was a knock on the door and the manager appeared with a armful of free grapefruit. This is not the place to stay if you want a resort on the water's edge, but it's cheap and cheerful and you get to mix with the locals.

Room Tip: It's self contained so stock up on supplies from the markets. Use the buses to get into town a...

The staff/managers here we're very attentive, friendly & thorough. Couldn't fault the service.
The cost for the 2 bedroom house was very reasonable.
There is a shop nextdoor for bits & pieces, and the bus to town is 5 mins.
This was the perfect place for me, my husband & 2 kids to settle in to Port Vila after a late night flight in. We stayed for 2 nights, before heading to another island.
It's not a resort & doesn't have a pool. But, if you're after a quiet place to stay a couple nights, without being right in town or on a resort, this is your place.

Lilen and Sylvie were lovely & keen to assist you with anything you needed!
3 bedroompeople apartments were basic but contained a tv, shower and large fridge as well as 2 really strong fans.
Only a 15m walk into town but you kind of had to know where you were going- or only a 200vt taxi trip.
Nice little fruit basket & the free wifi was a great bonus!
Definitely reccomend it for fellow budget travellers!

We stayed in Anabru Lodge for a week in October 2012. From the start we were made very welcome & were well looked after. Fresh mangoes were knocked down from a local tree for our first breakfast!! The place was spotlessly clean and the facilities were good. Although it's a little out of town, the "every 30 second" bus schedule made it easy & cheap to get to town or to the beach from the gate. Also, there is a shop at the gate. Sylvie & Lilian were both on hand to answer any question that we had and the owner, Lily & her partner Edmond took us out and helped us to organise trips. We would definitely recommend this place and will go back one day, as we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Vanuatu! Thank you Anabru Lodge!!

We loved how clean and comfortable Anabru was! The TV was great (even two channels was more than we bargained for at the price), and it was lovely to have a welcome fruit basket waiting for us. The fans were very reassuring to have, although the building is naturally cool so we didn't use them.

Sylvie and Liline were both gracious, present, helpful hostesses, and transport was so easy. All the bus drivers know the place, it's convenient to walk, and when we had to get to the airport at 5am and forgot to confirm our taxi, there was a bus driving past at just the right time.

The only downside is that traffic noise can be a little loud, but we chose not to close our windows, which would have cut the noise.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment for 5 nights and could not complain about a single thing. Apartment was well equipped, spotlessly clean and the service from Sylvie was second to none. She made us feel at home and there was nothing that was too much trouble.
I would happily recommend Anabru to others for a pleasant stay in Port Vila.
