“Disappointed with the island”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

We went to Hideaway Island as we had purchased a hot spots book and wanted to take our young children on the glass bottom boat. After paying $30+ to be on the island, we presented our hot spots voucher and were told to wait around for the tour. After waiting a while, I went to the boat shed and asked again. The guy in the boat shed told me to just wait around and they would call the tour soon. So.... We waited. We ordered lunch (the lady behind the counter had barely any personality and tossed the buzzer down in front often after I placed the order). During lunch, an Aussie guy came over asking us if we were going to the underwater post office and I said we were waiting for the glass bottom boat tour. He then informed me the boat was broken and it was canceled for the day. I'm not sure why the other 2 people didn't tell me that instead of us waiting around. It was cold and windy and the water was choppy, certainly not good snorkelling or swimming weather for a 4 & 6 yr old, so we went to the front desk, requested a refund and left, very disgruntled. Not a pleasant experience!

“Relaxing and good snorkelling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

You can take a taxi or local bus and then the ferry to Hideaway Island. It is very small and there is a hire fee for the snorkeling equipment. The beach is pretty much all coral so reef shoes are a must. The island is very tiny and the beach doesn't encircle the island however there are patches of stunning coral not too far from the beach. However, the diverse range of fish makes this place worthwhile to visit. Best to take some bread to feed the fish with as they will come right up to you. You could spend a good 2-3 hours or even a day here just relaxing and snorkeling. Much better than the resort islands of Irikiri and Erakor.

“Very relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

Wanted to post a letter in the underwater post office, so we spent a day visiting this beautiful island. The snorkelling was fantastic. Such a beautiful area. Went on the glass bottom boat which is great for kids as you can feed the fish. First place I have ever been that had a coral beach. This is a place you need to wear shoes. Gave our postcards to the postman underwater which was a bit of fun. Food was quiet nice & reasonable prices.

“Great snorkelling from the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

We did a day trip to Hideaway Island. The ferry runs every 5 mins and it is a short trip. The wharf to get there is about a 15 minute drive from the centre of Vila. The cost is around V1250 per adult for a day trip. The beach is coral, but you can sit on sun loungers. There is a little bar and restaurant serving snacks. The snorkelling off the beach was really good. We also did a dive for V7000 per person - which included part of the gear hire. To be honest the snorkelling was better than the dive we did, but they have over 40 different dive sites so perhaps some others are better.
A fun day out for all the family

“Snorkeling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

The snorkeling is very good and you dont have to go very far offshore to see marine life. It you are not going to snorkel there is probably not much point in going because it is a very small area that day trippers are allowed and the entrance fee is quite high if you are just going to lie on a sun lounge.
