“Heaven - A piece of Paradise !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2010

We have recently returned from an 8 day trip to Vanuatu and we all wish we were still there. We stayed in 2 different placesand enjoyed both but the smile did not come off my face the whole time at Chez Troppo. It is a beautiful piece of paradise. Well done to Archie and Annie for creating such a piece of heaven and thanks for sharing it with us.The accomodation is very modern and comfortable. We loved it.
My husband enjoyed his early morning walks around the village, meeting the locals and buying bread for a breakfast as well as our evenings in the local kava bar. My tween daughter enjoyed playing with the friendly local children and my teenage son enjoyed exploring the beautiful Erakor lagoon on a kayak and snokelling there too. Kayaking across to Erakor Isalnd for dinner was a highlight. Annie and Archie were fantastic hosts and I was lucky enough to be shown around a school in Port Vila with Annie.
Other highlights of our trip were snokelling at Hideaway Island, A day trip to Lelepa Island, Mele cascades, horse riding at Club Hippique, exploring the organic fruit markets and catching the local taxis. Wecould not have had a better time and I'm already saving to return!!!!!

The taxi from Port Villa, along a quiet road, then down a rough track...what have we come to? Then the greeting from Coconut and Annie.......like coming home after a weekend away. A fantastic self contained house, with all you would want, with a 10 metre path to the bautiful Eracor lagoon. Swim all day,or just laze under the palms. If you feel really lazy, call a taxi into town,or walk the 10 minutes up the drive, and go as the locals do,by the cheap bus into town. Spend some vatu in the local supermarkets ( Number 2 is probably the best...but plenty of choice in Vila, and you can't go past the market for fresh veges.) Annie and Archie are wonderful hosts, and having realised they have stumbled upon a piece of paradise on earth, they are amazingly generous in sharing it with their guests. If it were me, I'd have kept it a secret!

Our holiday to Vanuatu was the first time we had visited the island. The boys wanted a holiday that included snorkeling and scuba diving and relaxation.
We chose Chez Troppo because it ticked all the boxes for our requirements. Close to the water, self contained facilities and not right in Port Vila.
Upon arrival we were made most welcome by the owners of Chez Troppo who could not do enough for us for the 7 days of our stay. Our bungalow was everything and more as described on the internet when we made our booking.
Fresh flower arrangements and fresh fruit each day together with a friendly happy, house keeper was very welcoming.
The 20 minute bus trip to Port Vila made getting around very easy. Drivers would be waiting for us in Port Vila to take us back to Chez Troppo and drop us off at our door. For this reason we only needed to hire a car for 2 days. The first day to get a feel of Port Vila and on the Sunday when shops are closed to take a drive around the island.
Erakor Island resort is only a short barge ride and great for a drink and a meal and conveniently we were picked up and dropped back off at the front of Chez Troppo.
Nothing is too much trouble for Annie and Archie the owners, they go out of their way to ensure their guests are looked after.
We would thoroughly recommend Chez Troppo, it is a real little piece of paradise.
7 days is not long enough at Chez Troppo, we can't wait to go back in the new year for longer.

My wife and I were looking for a place to spend the last week of a month-long trip to Australia, We wanted a nice relaxing environment, in a location that was not overly commercialized.
Chez Troppo exceeded our expectations, and Vanuatu Island was the highlight of our trip. Chez Troppo offers a very relaxing bungalow, and Annie and Archie were superb hosts- helpful, but not intrusive.
The bungalow has all the amenities you'll need, and is tastefully decorated- all while being on the edge of a beautiful lagoon. As soon as we can get up the energy to handle a 24 hour trip, we're going back!

We loved staying at Chez Troppo. The facilities in the apartment were excellent. We felt as though we were off the tourist trap and saw a good part of Port Villa - especially with the village so close by. Annie and Archie couldn't do enough for us and the people in the village were very friendly. The kids had a great time in the kayaks, exploring the tropical waters and playing with the local kids. The two dogs Coco and Troppo added character to the place
We would go back tomorrow.

Chez Troppo: We came for the location and price - we’ll come back for the warmth, generosity and friendliness.

We’re a family of four, two kids aged three and five, with our third child to arrive in (hopefully) five weeks. Mum wanted what she likes to call a ‘baby-moon’ - a little holiday before the new baby (and contingent sleepless-nights/dirty nappies) arrives. We had pretty strict criterion for our holiday choice re: price (relatively cheap); location (relatively warm and by a beach); and comfort (nice place to relax). Chez Troppo fit all of these needs, but we also were interested in it because we wanted to get away from the typical ‘resort’ experience – where the only locals you meet are serving you at the bar or changing your bedsheets, and the only experiences one has is in a tour bus.

Chez Troppo is located in Erakor Village, a bit out of town (Port Vila), along a thin strip of pot-holed road frequented by speeding minivans (the island’s main form of public transport). Erakor Village is, in itself, home to the genuinely friendliest people we’ve ever met. We were a bit wary at first of the locals, but they soon put us at ease by waving, smiling, and greeting us with ‘yo!’ and ‘hallo!’. They went out of their way to help us on several occasions, and by the end of our trip they were greeting our kids on a first-name basis.

Port Vila was good fun, a short bumpy/smoky roundabout trip into town by bus (minivan), shopping for fruit and chicken/rice cooked in banana leaf at the fruit market (man, we loved the fruit), a bit of shopping for French wines and pastries/terrines at the Au Bon Marche in Nambatu, people-watching on the main strip. Other things to do: Mele Cascades were great; Hideaway island was a bit ‘meh’ for us (not really suited for our age kids); spent a day hanging out at a resort pool (free to go into other resorts and use their pools etc). We actually liked Erakor island a lot. An island resort, it has a couple of sandy beaches for the kids to enjoy, a nice 10 min walk down to the other end of the island, passing by a few missionary graves and a small outdoor wedding chapel. It also has quite a good restaurant. Erakor Island is right across the water from Chez Troppo – probably the first thing you see when you look out over the lagoon from your accommodation – and they will send a boat over to pick you up, so long as i) the tide is in and ii) you buy your lunch or dinner at the restaurant. Actually, now that I remember, Mum also got a boat to pick her up and take her to Erakor island for a 90 minute massage.

Back to Chez Troppo, the accommodation really is excellent compared to what we saw at other resorts (and what we’ve experienced around the world). Annie and Archie (owners) have really made sure that people who come to stay will be comfortable and relaxed in their very well-equipped villas. There is all you need to cook/clean/wash-clothes/dry-clothes etc. A bbq out the front, and a hammock next to it, completes this heavenly picture. Sarah (local housekeeper) would come through discretely during the day (usually while we were out), and clean up, remake beds etc. If there was ever a problem, Annie was on top of it quicksmart. Annie, in fact, was always keen to make our holiday experience the best it could be – too many examples to be able to cite them all! Archie was our local guide, for kava sessions or walks thru Erakor village. On top of that, our kids became very good friends with the local kids (including Sarah’s little girl Krayleen) and would play down by the beach – playing games and eating coconuts etc. To us the warmth we found in our holiday at Chez Troppo, through the hospitality of both Annie and Archie, and the friendliness of everyone we met in Vanuatu, has genuinely made an impression on us – we’ll definitely be back! Tangkyu!

When booking over the internet it always feels like a gamble but from the minute Archie met us at the airport and took a for a tour through Vila we knew we had hit the jackpot. Chez Troppo is perched on the edge of Erakor Lagoon and the view, accommodation and snorkelling is absolutely fantastic. The accommodation is serviced every day but Saturday by Sarah who leaves fresh flowers around the room. Unfortunately we were caught out with our passports and did not get to spend the full time of our booking but the service provided by Archie and Annie was exceptional. Thank you so much guys. The location is truly unique and out does any large resort. Troppo and Coconut (dogs) also make it a home away from home. We look forward to our next visit which we are already planning. Warning to those heading to Vanuatu make sure you have at least 6months left on passport. The people of Vanuatu are wonderful and truly the happiest place on earth.
