“Wonderful stay at Tara”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2010

My wife and I stayed at Tara Beach for 11 days- and could have stayed on for more ! Thanks to Trip Advisor contributors, we knew what to expect and were very happy with the stay. Two things stood out - its location and staff. We wanted to have a "do nothing" holiday and completely veg out, and Tara Beach was perfect for us. Spent the days swimming, having drinks outside the bungalow, playing golf, reading, and had meals at the restaurant. We also popped in to Port Villa using its shuttle bus (which sometimes felt like our own chauffer service - anytime we needed to be taken anywhere, we simply rang Ivo (our friendly driver) and he picked us up by the time we finished our Tusker). We found this heaps better and less expensive than taking a taxi or renting a car.So bring a phone with you.

Interestingly, Tara Beach welcomed tours from 5 star resorts and curise ships, where those guests paid to snorkel, swim and kayak ! Being guests at the hotel, we already had those privilleges - everyday !!

The room was fine, clean, spacious and safe. Our laundry was done by the husekeepers and returned the same day. The staff were very friendly and helpful - we chose not to do any tours - but I'm sure they would have helped out as well. Mychele, the new manager (Kiwi, but accident prone :) was excellent to deal with and very helpful. Made us feel at ease and relaxed.Everything was a breeze. The restaurant was fine and our standout dish was the poulet fish. The prices were fine - everything in PV is pretty expensive and the prices at the restaurant were competitive by PV standards.Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for a few days as there was a death in the family, Ken, a world class international footballer, and even though everyone was effected by this, all the staff pressed on. Credit to Ivo who, unbeknown to us at the time, drove us around at the time of Ken's funeral which he should have attended.

Port Villa itself was a bit grungy, but we saw Tara Beach as a sanctuary. It is naturally beautiful and unlike the sanitised 5 star resorts. There will be little things that people may not like, and in the interests of being objective, out toilet was a bit tempremental (but was fixed), the kettle needs to be replaced, and the sheets had minor stains. These were miniscule from our perspective as our entire experience was wonderful. We think that if you are flexible, adaptable and happy to go with the flow, Tara will be perfect. Its great for families and couples alike. On the other hand, if one is demanding, impatient and has high expectations, then go to a 5/6 star resort.

We brought cash to pay the bill on the last day.

Thanks to Sala (Elvis reincarnated), Lulu, Kalo, Mychele, Ivo, Fred (next president!), chef and the staff - it was a fantastic stay. Will we stay at Tara when we return to Vanuatau - an absolute YES !!

Had a great time in Vanuatu and Tara Beach Resort really made the trip. The resort is in the best location, with the bungalo's right on the beach, you can hear the waves and enjoy the sea breeze as you sit on your balcony. Great for snorkelling, swimming and kayaking. Perfect place to laze around!
Resort staff were fantastic, especially the manager Mychele, who went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. She was full of information, could answer all our questions, suggested places to go and personally showed us the local sights. She always put in 100% effort to ensure we were having a good time.
Nothing was too much trouble for resort staff, we were taken wherever we wanted and picked up again, anytime we wanted. These pickups do incur a small fee, which did not bother us as it was cheaper to do this than get a taxi or island bus. Brilliant!
Thankyou for a great time and we will DEFINATELY be back :)

We really got lucky booking Tara Beach Resort in Vanuatu at the last minute. I truely believe that it is the best location in Vanuatu private and quite away from your typical holiday makers, I spent a couple of half days at other resorts on the island and nothing comes close. We start with 10 private bungalows a stones throw from the ocean with veranda's to spend lazy days reading or drinking a few cold drinks. Tara Beach Resort offers Kayak's & snorkeling gear to use as you see fit whenever you want at no extra cost. The quite little restaurant looking over the water offers good quality meals for all taste. Now to the service the manager of Tara Beach Michele is really the person who made our holiday brilliant Michele offers you ideas on what to do for the day she is genuine and professionally laid back exactly what you want when on holidays its really great to have someone who knows whats what on the island and she knows everything. All the workers at Tara Beach are so great and always smiling. Also worth a mention is the Tara Beach Bus which was a lifesaver always there to pick you up after dinner and take you back to your bungalow to settle for the night weather it be for a few more drinks or watch one of the many DVD's on offer. This place is truely great and I can't wait to go back. Thanks for everything Michele...

Tara Beach has really beautiful water and the fish are very friendly and come to watch when you sit on the jetty, we fed them bits of bread and they come and eat it.
Tara is run by locals so the money stays within the community, it is very relaxed and they will help you with anything they can. Really genuine, trustworthy and friendly people.
Next time we come to Vanuatu we will definately stay there again. All the cottages are right by the water so you can see the sea all the time.
Eric is the son of the owners and is the resort manager he made sure everything we asked for happened. It is about a 15 minute drive to Port Vila and there is a vehicle to take you wherever you want to go, from the resort, all you have to do is tell them when and where you want to go, there is only a very small charge for this.

We had a really great time staying at Tara Beach Resort. The rooms are very neat and tidy and the service was fantastic. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck at the front of our room looking back towards Port Vila, afternoon cocktails right next to the beach and the masses of fish you can feed by hand right off the end of the jetty. Snorkelling right out in front of the restaurant/beach was amazing too! Only downside was the distance from Port Vila - but then again, you don't go to Vanuatu for the city life!

We have just spent a wonderful 16 days at Tara Beach Resort.

The Bungalows were clean and tidy. They were serviced everyday. There is no need for air-conditioning as the bungalows get a beautiful cool breeze blowing in across the harbour every day. The fans in the bungalow are enough to keep you cool at night.

The staff are the friendliest people you can encounter and we have only nice things to say about our stay at Tara Beach. We had the best time and after such a long stay we felt like we were part of the family. We loved it there and when Lou Lou sat us down to sing us his farewell song I even got a bit teary. Lou Lou and Fred taught us a great deal about Vanuatu and its culture and History.

Carlo and Lou Lou are always ready with a big Vanuatu smile to greet you at breakfast time and lay out a lovely fruit platter full of tropical fruits to eat along with your breakfast.

The views from the bungalows and dinning area were so relaxing. The snorkeling is superb with such a large variety of fish and coral just off the jetty. The Kayaks are available when you wish to use them and we had a few days paddling up and down the coastal strip in front of the resort.
No problem with transport to and from town. Just let them know when you want to go to town and they are there with the minibus at your door waiting.

We didn't have a problem with mosquitos as we only saw two. I had taken a mozzie zapper with me but really didnt need it. It would still be wise to take one though as they may be there at other times. I also took a sandwich toaster with me as it was handy having a toasted sandwich at times as there are no cooking facilities in the bungalow. There is a bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. I also took a blow up swimming mattress which was fun floating around the water out the front of the resort and snorkeling from.
We had a great time playing volleyball with other guests and teaching the staff how to play touch footy , which they are all keen to join in on the games.
Sala and Eric, the resort owners are only too happy to help you if you have any problems or questions.

I would recommend Tara Beach Resort if you are looking for value for money accommodation in Vanuatu.
We loved it there.

We loved the stress free life style of Tara Beach, no time limits, eat when you want, go to town and staff will wait for as long as you want, no emails, no phones, no TV, could of had another month there easy. We loved the staff so friendly, they often sang to us at meal times. Lu Lu took us to meet the local village children that he teaches to sing, and also hear them. Our family all want to return to Vanuatu we have 4 kids under 12, they loved the colored fish, boats, swimming and the experience of another culture. We made new friends both western and local, it was truly a wonderful time.
