“Excellent Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

We didn't stay at Tamanu but had one of the best lunches in Vanuatu. The Service was excellent and the food delicious. The Restaurant has an open air /alfresco feeling to it and a beautiful view over the white sandy beach towards the sea. It is a bit out of time but well worth the effort.

I cannot recommend Tamanu highly enough. My wife and I were looking for something special to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and this is definitely a place for something special. Virginia, the manager, was extremely helpful with ideas and we elected for limo transfer from Port Vila, Moet on route, dinner on the beach with our own waitress's and wish balloons to finish off the night. The food was fantastic bearing in mind the challenge of kitchen to beach and the location and experience was beyond my expectation. Real Estate is all about Location Location, well for a romantic dinner for two this THE LOCATION! Thank you Tamanu on the Beach

Celebrating your 10th wedding anniversary at Tamanu with all the trimmings was a delight for the team as well. We are thrilled to enjoyed it so much and that you loved our little slice of paradise right on the beach of the south Pacific Ocean. May we see you again on your next anniversary.

My husband and I recently got married at Tamanu on the beach as it has everything you could possibly want in a wedding venue and more. The villa's in which we and a few of our guests stayed in are beautiful. Virginia and her team made the day absolutely perfect, we didn't have to worry about a thing. We had our ceremony on the huge white sand beach which is stunning and our reception was held at the restaurant at Tamanu. We had rolling Canapés throughout the evening instead of a sit down meal and we could not fault the food or the service of the staff, the Chef's at Tamanu are truly talented. The day went off without a hitch and we will forever be thankful to Virginia and her team.

Room Tip: All of the villa's at Tamanu are beautiful, I would highly recommend any of them.

We were diving for a week on the wreck of SS President Coolidge and arranged to return to Brisbane by way of Port Vila so we could have lunch at Tamanu on the Beach. The reviews had been too good to miss in our short lives.

Arriving at the airport we were astonished to find that the published rate for a taxi to Tamanu on the Beach is 6,900 Vatu. That is ridiculous but none of the taxi drivers would budge so we paid it. I guess the drive was less than an hour but we did a short tour of Port Vila to try to get our money's worth. On arrival at Tamanu we were told that they would have sent a vehicle to pick us up for 3,500 Vatu. So a little planning is worth it. Needless to say, we used Tamanu's car to take us back to the airport.

It is difficult to describe the location. Stunning white sand, waves breaking enthusiastically on the reef, dazzling blue skies, nicely manicured gardens and fabulous bungalows. Wow. The bungalows are made of coral "rocks" straight from the beach and the effect is beautiful to say the least. The architecture and appointments are delightful. We will have to make a special visit to partake.

We came for a very long lunch and we were not disappointed. Arriving early, we sat in the shade and soaked up the ambience whist we sipped coffee. My wife, Susan, surprised me by ordering gin before 11am.

Lunch was excellent. A Bourdeaux red was a good choice. We admit to having viewed the menu online so we chose (sorry, having been married for 46 years, we chose the same dishes):
Coconut prawns served with a caramelised chilli and lime dipping sauce and fresh garden salad

200g Vanuatu beef fillet steak cooked blue for me and rare for Sue, served with potato dauphinoise, slow roasted tomatoes, confit garlic and red wine jus.

Caramelised lemon pastry tart served with homemade coconut ice-cream and fresh lemon.

I don't need to go into detail on each item because each was delectable and, together created a beautiful experience.

We look forward to spending a few days at Tamanu on the Beach. It is so accessible from Brisbane and yet so beautifully different

Room Tip: Definitely organise Tamanu to pick you up from Port Vila as the taxi fares are prohibitive

We are truly thrilled that you made such an effort to visit Tamanu and weren't disappointed. It is always heartening to hear that our guests receive the outstanding service we promise and that our kitchen team consistently provide delicious meals. Thank you also for your recommendation to use our transfer service as it is easier, more reliable and less expensive than local taxis. Once again, your feedback has been appreciated and we hope to welcome you back to Tamanu soon.

Tamanu is beautiful. Located on a wide stretch of white sand, Tamanu is far enough from Vila that you feel as if youve gotten away from all, but not so far that you feel isolated. The comfortable villas come in various shapes and sizes, and are uniquely decorated. The decks and outdoor showers are great!

Service is friendly, food is OK (a bit pricey), and there is lots of relaxing to be done. The beach is lovely, although its quite rocky underfoot in the water, so bring shoes.

Despite being quite kid friendly, Tamanu usually doesnt allow kids to come, except for in off season. so if youve got kids and want to experience Tamanu, drop them a line to ask about when thats possible.

The road out to Tamanu is pretty bad, but thats OK - once youre there, you dont really want to leave!

This is a bit belated, however, I returned to Tamanu On The Beach in August, 2013. As expected, nothing had changed. Thank goodness. Well, bar a couple of small ones. Firstly, Virginia Shore, previously admin manager, and whom I'd met on my previous visit, was now the Resort Manager. No problem there as, like everyone at Tamanu, you're still made to feel at home and Virginia does it as good as anyone.

Second change was the big one......new chef, Cameron Morrison. Not only is he an excellent chef but also an all round good guy. I was there for an event and he was in and around everything when he wasn't in the kitchen. And something I really like, he talks to the visitors... I suppose this keeping the "tradition" going. Former Tamanu chef, Ryan was an excellent chef and an all round good guy as well. Both have their own style of cooking and both equally excellent. When it comes to food Cameron is an "artiste". Not only does he care deeply about the food he prepares and presents, but he constantly "creates" in mind and brings his creations to life during lunch and dinner. No wonder the place is packed on the weekends with local expats. I got to know him quite well and I was pretty much blown away by his enthusiasm and the way his eyes lit up when discussing what had just been shipped in to the markets and what he was going with the fresh produce that he had bought. It was so great to get an insight into how a chefs' mind works. Loved every minute of our convos. I'll stop raving as I think you get the point. The food is grrrreeat!

As for the rest of the resort, happily, still the same. The same friendly, smiling staff, welcoming you like you're a long, lost relative and there is no doubt about their sincerity. Stayed in the same cottage, Kiare. Clean, comfortable and airy. Nothing like the ocean putting you to sleep at night. And, when having a shower, I love looking out into the gardens over the wall made of coral that had been washed up on the beach.

By the way, lots of swimming "holes" up along the beach, if you're looking for a dip in the warm waters of Vanuatu. There is one right out the front of Tamanu and more up the beach.

All in all, another wonderful stay.

We first discovered this piece of paradise in April 2012 and returned for another five night visit in August 2013.
The location is amazing. Right on the beach away from the hustle and bustle of Port Vila. It is approximately 25 minutes drive from Port Vila. The cottage was very comfortable and falling asleep to the waves each evening was soothing. The food was absolutely beautiful and the sizes were generous. The view from the restaurant is amazing, as is the view from anywhere at the resort. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Virginia the resort manager was fantastic. She was able to arrange tours and a driver for us. The resort offers amazing massages which I highly recommend. If you would like to help out the local community and have the space in your luggage, I recommend that you bring with you school stationery supplies and any clothes that you no longer wear (children and adults). Virginia can assist in distributing and it is very much appreciated by the locals. This beautiful resort is a must if you are looking for quality service, food, beach front location and somewhere to totally relax and unwind.
