“Breathtaking place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I watched the sun rise every morning from my room. The room was so beautiful and so delicate I felt I was living in a fairytale world and the interior decors are so sophisticated. I felt like a princess when I lay on the bed which is of gold and sky blue silky linen. The Hostess is so beautiful and so friendly and she made my stay a wonderful experience in the Kingdom with her German accent she is always making sure that I'm comfortable. I felt so much at home and felt sad to leave this beautiful place which kept me so welcome and safe. The beautiful and friendly Tongan girls that come up to clean room everyday was so trust worthy that even though I would carelessly leave personal belongings anyhow will find it there when I get back to my room late in the evenings. I will definitely come back to stay in this place when I come back to the Kingdom.

This place is the best! I travelled with a group for 25 days throughout the South Pacific, and we stayed in a great variety of hotels in places such as Samoa, Vanuatu, Guam, Palau, etc... and this place on Tonga is hard to beat. You can research all of the options, and unless you are looking for a budget or remote island hideaway... then this is the place to stay.

As the other reviews have noted, this is a small family run place. There are just 12 or 13 rooms. Our group of 17 took up the whole place. Our hosts (the owners) Franz and Gudrun could not have been more hospitable! I must honestly say that they bent over backwards to make our stay a great one.

The rooms are lovely, and complete with any amenity that you could need. From hairdryers to wifi... or mini-bars to cd players... the rooms have it all. Not all of the rooms have a view (just not possible at this sort of place). But, that really does not matter.... just walk across the road to the water!

Location - excellent. Just 5 minutes walk to the Royal Palace and 10-15 minutes to the town center. Or, call a cab if you want and it is there in minutes.

Dining - well, the home cooked breakfast was perfect... and as for dinner... this place is indeed rated as the best place to eat. If you are here for several days then the location is perfect for walking to other restaurants.

Wifi - free / with a pretty decent signal throughout.

Order a drink from the bar and sit outside in the garden in the evening. There is a nice verandah, and a comfy inside lounge area.

If I were to go back I would stay here for sure! I checked out three or four other places in town when we were there.... They looked nice, but this place would win out for the standard of service offered... and the quality of the food.

enjoy

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs ocean-facing room. Be sure to eat dinner here at least once during your stay.

The Seaview Lodge is a very homey place not only because it is built to be that way but also the people there are very friendly and keen on making your stay as pleasant as possible. It is walking-distance from the market and therefore quite central. There is a promenade right in front of it where you can take a long and peaceful walk along the shore. The breakfast was delicious!

I was having a short break in Tonga (3 nights) and have stayed at the Seaview Lodge. My room, 302, was in the annex and was very well appointed, had a good selection of mini-bar items (although, this isn't something I use), an in-room safe, very comfortable bed, tasteful decor, wi-fi, and a TV with 20 channels (including two for sport). The shower room was clean and damp free, which is quite an achievement in the South Pacific, with fresh towels daily. The shower (whether you wanted hot, warm or cold), was very powerful and quite invigorating - again, somewhat of a rare find in these parts.
Breakfast is served daily in the restaurant, which is also open every night, except Saturday and it serves the best food on the Island.
My Hosts, Franz and Gudrun made me feel very welcome, as did the local staff servicing the rooms and waiting in the restaurant. Airport transfers are conveniently arranged and are charged to you bill, with no nasty surcharge.
My three days at the Seaview were relaxing and it could be described as a home away from home.
I look forward to going back again.

Franz and Gudrun manage a lovely place in front of the sea. We stayed one night, and also dined with them for dinner. The rooms are impeccably clean, and the location is just right if you want to use Nuku'alofa as a base to explore the island.

Dinner was wonderful - they were out of the veggie lasagne (the only veggie item on the menu if you want more than a salad) but Franz did a great job of whipping me a German style potato rosti + garlic sauteed vegetable meal. Delicious!

Room Tip: Get a seaview room - the breeze and the view are worth it!

Was there for business. Had no idea what to expect but Gudrun and Franz made me feel at home - ould talk to them for hours! Since i didnt pay the bills myself, i cant really comment on that but another colleauge stayed at the Scenic out at the airport and didnt have many good things to say about it. Glad I ended up here!
I had dinner at the restaurant several times and each time was excellent! I hope to visit again soon :)
