“This King Solomon is a wise choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Honiara is not a tourist haven just yet but if you have to stay a few days you need a warm welcoming secure type of place like the King Sol. Quirky it is, with its own unique transport to your hotel bedroom situated on a hillside right in the heart of the town but above the hustle and bustle. Its not a flash place but clean and friendly with a small bar, and has a laid back feel about it with a good breakfast buffet and some local evening entertainment on a couple of nights a week. A pleasant BBQ each Sunday lunchtime by the beautifully designed but small plunge pool set amid tropical gardens is a bonus. Shane, the Australian proprietor, is always keen to receive suggestions as to how his service can be improved.

Room Tip: Higher, The better. Most rooms have balconies.

Very comfortable hotel .Some rooms with sea views.
Cute little cable car or funicular to take you up the hill to your room.
Rooms are a good size and well equipped with TV from several countries including Australia and microwave
Beautiful pool with live music at po0l party each Sunday,
Floor show most nights in the restaurant
Owned and run by Australian expats who employ
friendly and helpful local staff.
Occassional hiccups like cable car breaking down(not crashing) or water failing are fixed quickly .In house restaurant with great food and Bamboo bar next door is also a great place to hang out.

This cafe, located next door to the hotel, is a great place for simple but first-class meals. Very well-priced and the staff are really friendly. You can either sit inside in the air-conditioning or enjoy a shaded area outside.

It is located in the street that runs parallel to Honiara's main street, so visitors are unlikely to stumble across it. Worth searching it out.

Had another fabulous holiday at the iconic King Sol, known locally amongst expats as the place to be. Famous for its hospitality with long time Australian owners Shane and Sue, who work hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They have kept the hotel to its traditional polynesian theme with tropical gardens, waterfall pool and a gym and for your comfort have added a fabulous licensed coffee shop and a new cocktail bar, both with air con. All rooms have air con and are kept clean and tidy by wonderful helpful local staff and the restaurant food is fabulous. Over the 10 years I have been visiting, I have never found a room to be dirty. Electrical items from time to time need repair/replacement and this can sometimes be problematic but that just reminds me that I am in a third world country and not to expect everything to be perfect all of the time. I can't wait until my next visit.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room with a balcony as they all balconies overlook the tropical gardens

The King Sol is now quite an icon in Honiara...when first opened many years ago indeed the facilities were basic..but it was clean and comfortable ..as it is now with working TV and frig in room and a balcony above the pool. This hotel is indeed a haunt for local expats and locals alike so if you want to experience the real Honiara..stay here! I have also found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The bed was comfy, shower worked well and WiFi is available with the purchase of a Bumble Bee card...$50 NZ for 7 days / 250 GB...so quite adequate for email clearing...also the Bamboo Lounge next door ( owned by hotel ) is VERY good for breakfasts and lunches.

Remember ...you're in the Solomons...chill and deal with it!
