“Comfort property in the centre of everything in Honiara”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

I stayed at the Heritage Park Hotel between the 5th and 11th August 2013. Everything must be taken in context, for it's endeavour to be an international 4 star property they try hard. Located overlooking the sea, it's gardens are well maintained with plenty of plant life. At the western end of the sea front there's a wharf area and bar (not part of the Heritage) and the music can be a little loud but sufierable. The property is in good order and is currently undergoing some expansion - adding extra rooms near the open cafe area. Rooms are comfortable good size, air-conditioning works well and furniture is in good order. Bathroom is adequate for a seasoned traveller with shower, basin and toilet, all were again in good order and clean. Bathroom extras were to be expected in such a property and were replenished as required. Minibar well stocked and fridge worked well without being noisy. Tea & coffee making supplied, but no biscuts supplied although there were chips-peanuts in the bar for purchase. Breakfast is taken in the open cafe area adjacent the very large lobby area. One thing you can never be in the Islands is in a hurry, the word isn't part of the culture. Serving staff friendly and unobtrusive, meaning you must always tell them you want to sign your account and go, never the other way around. Choice of Continental breakfast - cereal choice, fruit, choice of fruit drink + toast and some form of spread of the day be it jam, peanut butter etc. But no tea or coffee is included this is an extra charge and has to be ordered separately. In all, adequate. If you want a hearty breakfast there's a quite good selection to order from - the English style plate is a very full platter and well costed. For dinner the in-house restaurant is adjacent the cafe outdoor area and is fitted out extremely well, menu extensive and food presentation very acceptable. Good selection of wines and beers various. If you have any special requests for the front office staff make sure they well understand and be prepared to follow up the request in time and wait to see it it transpires. Again it's the culture of the Islands just don't be in a rush as no one else is, so sit back and it'll happen in Island time, no problems. Happy hour, pool side 16:00-18:00 is a popular daily event and a great opportunity to strike up a conversation with anyone from a fellow in-house traveller to even one of the Diplomatic staff posted to the country. I believe it's a well presented property, it's General Manager keeps his eye on what's happening, and he's to be seen all over the property from early morning to late night. As a war time General once said - "I will return" I enjoyed my stay - Dennis J Weatherall Sydney Australia

Have hosted and facilitated a few meetings in Honiara and the stand out venue with best value for money is the HPH. From parking and security to air-con, whiteboards, ppt and stationary, and compared to other venues, this has it all and takes away the headache of logistics details so you can focus on delivering a good workshop program in comfortable, cool surroundings. Staff were helpful and responsive to last minute requests (and trust me we did have a few), catering was good, and most of all, we didn't have to worry about power blackouts, equipment breaking down or not being available, and coffee/tea and refreshments were at the ready. In terms of charges from other venues in Honiara, HPH delivers surprisingly great value for money as a meeting venue -- because the rate for the training room includes all the extras-- after that its all the catering menu options. Thanks to Sanjay and the team!

I found it too noisy to get any work done. I had the doors shut, the aircon on, but couldnt drown out the constant screams /shouts coming from the pool all day. My complaints had no effect.

Food ranged from passable to awful.

Clean rooms but pokey.

Considering how much they charged for the rooms, it was poor. Not happy experience.

We stayed at the Heritage Park Hotel for a few weeks for work. Set in beautiful tropical gardens next to the ocean. However, we saw quite a few rats, but we were told there are lots of rats in Honiara. For many nights a week, we couldn't sleep because of the noise coming from the pool area or the Koko-nut Cafe, next door. It was really loud!

The rooms were small, but are probably the nicest out of all the hotels here, being the newest.

All staff were friendly and very warm.Service, especially room service was unbelievably slow, often taking around 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes it took 1 hour to get a coffee in the Terrace Bar. The food itself was poor. We could not safely recommend it and would actually advise against. We just had a bit of toast in the mornings, with a coffee until we noticed even the coffee tasted strange. We sent back food back more than once, but staff still presented us with the bill. They were too afraid not to write a chit. After that we preferred to go to the Breakwater Cafe next door for the rest of our stay.

My first trip to Honiara I stayed here and it was really great. A resort with a great pool, a nice restaurant, large, clean rooms and a central location. And those impressions are still true. The food is a bit better than the mendana, with more variety, and the pool is bigger too. The service is also fine by Solomon standards, which on the whole I find average, but still perfectly adequate. They have a pool BBQ meal on one night, and its worth it. Fresher than some of the generic sort of resort food in the restaurant.

The main annoying problem at the heritage I thought was is the internet. They had bumblebee access available, but its expensive, flaky and awful. There was also some very early morning construction going on, which was disruptive if you want to sleep later than 7. And the really loud bar/disco that ran til about 3 most mornings. Combine the two and there isn't much peace. Having said that. Its nothing that ear plugs and a little medication won't get you through.

If choosing between the Mendana and here, and you want better food and a better pool, stay here. But still try the Japanese restaurant at the Mendana next door.

Most big businesses are very wary of interacting with us news media types, so hats off to HPH for putting their head in the lion's mouth and hosting a regional World Press Freedom Day event this month.

Heritage Park Hotel is a lovely set up, and wonderfully central to Honiara. Their assistance was essential to the success of our WPFD event, towards establishing a regional office for a Pacific Media Ombudsman. There is pleasant live music by the pool most nights, and for those who like things a bit more lively, the fabulously local Kava Haus is right next door.

The rooms were lovely, and the FOOD in Solomon Islands is amazing - they must have the best soil in the world, the vegetables and fruit were the best I have ever tasted. As an island traveller used to volcanic soil vegetables, this is no casual praise. And the fish was never over-cooked, always lovely and moist.

Feedback: the aircon unit filters in my room (201) probably need a clean, the air smells musty when you turn it on. I soon got used to it, but others paying hundreds a night might not be so forgiving.

And, while the espresso coffee was amazingly strong and tasty, HPH suffers the same problem as most hotels when it comes to their conference coffee flasks - too weak, like a weak tea, nothing like coffee.

Yes there are power cuts, and the net can be slow, but we are the islands, so that's just the price of paradise. Hint: it's a lot faster after 2am, when most people are asleep , )
