“Happy Kids Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2010

I brought my kids to Palau this summer, and we enjoyed a lot.
The hotel really granted us a very nice experience!
The receptionists always chatted with my daughters and showed
extremely friendly attitudes.
Rooms are perfect. I stayed with my son, and my wife stayed with my
daughter in Jungle View Room. Very neat! View was great!
They have their own restaurant. The pasta was delicious.
Water park was also clean & enjoyable. I highly recommend this great resort!

I was surprised at how much was needed to be cleaned and repaired in the inside and the outside of the hotel! The pools and Jacuzzis were very dirty!

Thank you very much for your opinion. However, we finished our renovation of water park in May 2010. Since you visited Mar,everything has been different. Please feel free to check yourself again!

Family with four children (10, 8, 7 and 1.5) stayed for 4 1/2 nights July 26-31, 2010. We had rooms 206 and 207.

Room 206:
Had very low water pressure.

Both rooms:
Awesome, firm beds.
Awesome jungle view.
Awesome functional, brand new, clean furniture and bedding.
Electronic safe, refrigerator, great A/C, complimentary coffee & tea, hot water pot.
VERY spacious shower and bathroom. Great for getting all the sand out of things!
Need carpeting replaced/removed (some rooms have tile floors).
Shower water keeps getting cooler as you take your shower. You never run out of hot water, but by the end of the shower you have it all the way on hot for a comfortable shower.
Rooms do not adjoin; they are next to each other. Must leave one room and go next door to get in the other room (there is no door inside the rooms that connect). That was a concern with three small children sleeping in a room by themselves but ended up being fine.

General comments:
Staff was AWESOME! Can't understand how anybody could rate this staff as less than a 5.0/perfect rating. They went out of their way to answer any questions we had, talked to our kids (in Japanese and English) etc... They provided complimentary afternoon "Sponge Bob afternoon tea" which was actually more like a free meal! Housekeeping was timely and thorough. Pool maintenance was active every morning before the pool opened.

The restaurant menu needs improvement. The breakfast buffet was great, but when ordering individual things off the menu for lunch/dinner there were frequent "we're out" replies. That was disappointing the few times we tried to order things. The pizza was good and gave us two meals! The restaurant itself is beautiful, has a great view, good food, GREAT staff, good A/C and very clean.

Beautiful lobby and hotel entrance!

Electricity went out every night for about a minute. The hotel has generators that kick in immediately but you have to reset your A/C units. There is an emergency light that comes on in your room when electricity goes out. Recommend the hotel makes multi-language directions for the A/C units for people that can't read Japanese (not us!).

The poolside bar is basically defunct. However, you can order anything from the restaurant and they will bring it poolside. There is a phone and a menu poolside for this purpose but the phone didn't say what number to call for the restaurant.

The slides/pools are great. The pictures online of the beach are a little deceiving, but pictures of the slides/pools are not. The blue slide is awesome and very fast. It does have some spots that are worn and will need to be recoated soon but that does not interfere with it now! The tan slide is awesome too! At the top you need to back the water up (staff shows you how) to make it really fast! That was a little inconvenient but it was not a show stopper. The entire pool is about three feet deep so little kids are ok. There is one dangerous aspect where the sandy beach turns to tile in the shallow water. The plastic grates are missing or broken. This needs to get fixed FAST! Some of the poolside furniture is broken and needs to be thrown away (white metal chairs with broken ripped nylon seat). However, there are six picnic tables and a couple of nice wooden sun chairs. The upright water massage seats had jets that wouldn't turn on. If the slides are not on first thing in the morning, just ask the staff to turn them on. Why waste water/electricity if nobody is using them right? Resources are limited on a small island. There are some very creative features of the pool (ie water jet massage beds). Overall, the pool area is great for adults, big kids and little kids.

All arrangements made with Yi via email prior to the trip went off without a hitch! Again, this is part of the incredible support from the staff!

We gave the location a 3 out of 5 for one reason. It is a little far away from "downtown". Downtown is really just a cluster of like 20 buildings and is not very much at all. However, the hotel offers a shuttle downtown for $5 a head which is great if you are a single person or a couple. However, that was $40 round trip for our family. Taxis cost $30-$40. One suggestion for the hotel....MAKE THIS SERVICE FREE FOR YOUR GUESTS. It will negate the fact that you are 10 minutes from downtown Koror! However, the location of AWP puts you about 5 minutes from the airport which is VERY convenient!

Only charged us 1/2 price to keep our rooms till midnight the night we flew out. That was awesome and indicative of the awesome service and staff!

Made a PERFECT recommendation for a restaurant serving Mangrove and Coconut Crab (Carp Restaurant). Awesome service.

There are potable water machines on each floor. The machines give ice cold water, room temperature water, and super heated water. VERY convenient.

Yes, the hotel is older. The rooms are great and functional. There are some minor improvements that could be made around the hotel property. Please realize how much constant rain, sun and jungle plants take a toll on things.

Our jungle rooms were $110/per night each. However, at the last minute the hotel was kind enough to offer a discount to $95/per night each. Again, awesome service and staff.

The hotel name is confusing. Three different names that I saw; Airai Water Paradise Hotel & Spa (AWP), Airai Water View Hotel, Golden Airai Hotel. It seems AWP is the newest and most accurate.

The AWP website could use some improvement. It needs some more information (like a refrigerator/safe in each room). Also, delete the old Airai Water View Hotel, all of its links are dead.

High clientele of Korean and Taiwanese guests. Made some fast friends with other guest with kids!

I would say, if there is ANYTHING individual travelers like/don't like/need/don't need at this hotel...JUST TELL THE STAFF. They bend over backwards for you!

For the previous reviewer from Yokosuka, Japan:
TV channels...why would you watch tv in Palau? Geckos.....ummm ...... you're in the jungle! The shower head adjusts to any height/position and even have a 3 foot hose for convenience. Did you even try the slides/pools? You're in Palau.....unplug for a week. Who cares about internet connection?

I am not very picky and have never complained about a hotel, but this hotels standard room was just horrible. Old smell, old furniture, old curtains, old tv with 1 english station that was fuzzy, and ants, bugs, and geicos to greet you while in your room. The bathroom was full of ants and the shower head hits you at the waist and there was a switch with a box to allow you to get hot water while taking a shower. However, the ocean view room was nice and exactly like the website showed it, but maybe still had the bugs. Good buffet for breakfast. The pools and slides also needed some up keep and looked so old that they looked dangerous. It is also away from the downtown area, but only about 10-15 minutes. Yet all the restaurants and stores are downtown and the cab ride is about $18-20 one way. By the way no clubs exist on the island just bars. And the business center is just poor wireless service in the lobby. No computers available.

Thank you very much for your comment. We appreciate you positive comment on our Ocean view Room! As for the bug problem,We are always at the top rating of Palau National Sanitation ,and we have a subcontract with Palau Pest Control. Thus we think the bugs problem might be owing to the weather which we could hardly prevent. Thank you again for your suggestion!

Stayed here with my Wife and 4 teenage children. We selected the Jungle View Rooms that had 2 Queen beds in each. Beds were very firm, but not uncomfortable. Rooms were big enough for the 3 people we had in each room. Rooms were clean and recently renovated with spacious bathroom. Good air conditioning - a real plus during the wet season. Water park a big plus for the kids. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Quality and choice quite good international style cuisine. Free wireless internet in lobby, adequate but not fast (what more could you really expect?). Hotel a 10 minute taxi ride to Koror or hotel shuttle at $5US a head. Very friendly and obliging staff. Handy free airport pick up. Hotel a bit tired externally around the edges which is not suprising in this climate but doesn't affect the holiday experience.

We were travelling from Australia on the new Pacific Flier flight, arrived in Palau at 4:50am. We had only 4 days and made the most of it, thanks to the extremely friendly staff, always happy to help, they anticipated our needs at any time.

I would definitively go there again.
Yes the hotel is 15 minutes from Koror, but definitively worth it since there is a shuttle from the hotel to Koror pretty much when you need it.

Few months ago, we decided to spend our honeymoon in Palau and looked forward to this trip very much. We chosen Airai Water Paradise Hotel, and it didn't let us down.

At the first night we arrived, we wanted to go to the city, Koror, to buy some food and snack we needed, but we didn't know how to get there. There's a front desk girl helping us to call a taxi, so that we could go there instead of waiting for shuttle bus. We brought some food from a super market back to the hotel, and ask the front desk girl if she could hit the food for us. She helped us right away and couple minutes later come out from the kitchen with well-prepared food. It was really impressive.

The second day in the morning, we woke up in the sunshine and found that the ocean view in our honeymoon suite was really really awesome! Before we had the breakfast, we ask the hotel staff about the local tour. The front deck girl help us to reserve a local tour, and we could go to the Rock Island right before noon. This tour became our most unforgettable part of the whole trip! It was our first time to go snorkeling diving. If you want to go to Palau, you should definitely try this adventure! You cannot imagine how incredible the creatures under water are, how clear the seawater is, and how beautiful and white the beaches are!

We went back to the hotel at around 6 o'clock, and we were exhausted. My wife wanted to have a spa, and the spa therapist recommended her that instead of the whole body massage, she should try the nature facial white spa because my wife got some serious sunburn on her body. "I really enjoyed the spa, and I want to have spa when we go back to Japan!" she said. I hope the spa in Kobe is not expensive.....

The following two days, we stayed in the hotel during the daytime. There are two swimming pools in the hotel. They called it Water Park. I think it's because there are slides over there. However, I liked the standard pool better than the other one, which looked like for kids. We order a pizza and some beers at the poolside. Because other guests were all out to Rock Island, and it seemed that we reserved the whole swimming pool or that we were in a private villa...haha!

The last night, we also used the hotel's shuttle bus to go to the city again. I was surprised that there were some souvenir shops selling things with Japanese labels so that we could totally understand. The shuttle bus came to pick us up on time. Our honeymoon trip ended with riding the bus back to the hotel with some omiyaga!

Overall, our honeymoon trip was really memorable. I don't know how are the honeymoon trips of others who chose Europe country. But if you ask me about a place to take the honeymoon trip, I'll always say "Airai Water Paradise Hotel in Palau!"
