“Nothing great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

This can be done in 5 mins. Lack of things to do at Noumea brought us to this place. Otherwise, we wouldn't have visited.

“Colonial Grandeur”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

What a fabulous Library come cultural facility. Well worth a few moments of your time just to come see the interior of the main libray and soak up the ambiance and marvel at the sweep & majesty of the staircase. Magazine and papers are available in English.

“Beautiful building, and books, too.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

The Bernheim library (Bibliothèque Bernheim) serves all of New Caledonia in one way or another and is well worth the visit by tourists. The library was founded through a gift of mine owner and operator Lucien Bernheim and opened in 1905. The architecture of the main building, with its sweeping double staircase, is redolent of that period. A subsidiary building, housing the periodical collection, looks really, really French colonial! A soft-drink machine near the main building entrance is there to refresh you, and you must not miss the spiffy tile-faced toilets and washrooms, which are also there for your use. You can log on to the Internet at no charge. Read some books (just about all in French) and watch studious kids do their homework. Relax. Take it easy. Take some photos as well.
