“Good Hotel for the region.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

Stayed here for a week on business trip. Check in was smooth, Room was clean, Barfridge doesn't work, Lots of channels on the TV have a bad signal. Cleaning staff just walked into the room without knocking. Breakfast is really good with a nice selection. The pool is also nice and clean, Pool Bar serves nice and cold drinks, but don't expect the barman to come to the loungers, you have to go to the bar to order.
They have a mystery accounting system, as the front desk cannot explain why certain bills had $ 0.01 added to it,while others not, she ensured me it is not a rounding of, and they know about it, but can't explain it. Had to wait one afternoon for an hour for a ice cold pizza. The rest of the time the food was good, hot and tasty. The staff in the dining room is really very friendly, helpfull and attentive to what is going on, They strive to serve the clients in the dining room and is making a good job of it.

Room Tip: Do not take a room at the end of the passage by the Ice machine room, it is noisy, Rooms X28. Also...

Local Surinamese cuisine in hotel restaurant is delicious and a nice treat. I wish all Marriotts had the same quality of local dishes. This is as good as other restaurants in the area. Clearly, reviewers who did not like the food were not open to trying local dishes and were only ordering items that were USA related.

Traveling from Trinidad to Suriname does come with its challenges, namely the times of the flights in (late night) and out (early morning). The Courtyard definitely made this a little easier with a reliable shuttle service to and from the airport, easy check-in and advanced check-out, and a prompt wake up call in the morning. The location just outside of Paramaribo itself is also a plus, as there is less noise, traffic etc, but the proximity is still close enough to get anywhere in town within 10-15 minutes. I will definitely be staying here again on my next business trip to Suriname.

Room Tip: Since I travel for business I never use the blackout curtains, I would recommend taking a room on th...

Arriving into hotel at 2am, the front desk attendant seemed very abrupt. It got better by daybreak when the dining room staff displayed a welcoming attitude and invited me by name, to the buffet.
The meals are fairly ok and the service staff were by far very courteous. Downside, hand and face towels seemed a bit worn and discoloured. On my lasy night, dinner was almost a disaster but was averted by creativity and sincerity of my attendant. A fairly ok stay.

As a business traveler you look for a hotel that has a high level of service. The service from the hotel staff was okay. They indeed seemed to be well trained but it seemed that the hotel lacked some level of cohesion in the organisation as a whole.
The cleaning of the room could have been better. Also the restaurant food was adequate but not of a high quality. The breakfast could have been better. The choice was limited. The hotel amenities are limited. I got a mystery phone call when I was taking a bath. I rushed to pick up the phone. Someone from the front desk asked if I was in the restaurant just now. I said no and the person said thank you and hanged up. Later I asked in the lobby about this phone call and nobody seemed to have a clue and I was brushed off.
For the morning I left, I asked for a wake up call at 4 AM. They forgot my wake up call so the taxi driver had to rush to the airport to catch my plane. They also forgot the pre-ordered take out breakfast that morning.

Our last visit in November 2012 was pleasant as the one two years before. The breakfast does have choices of food and this is the meal that many travellers look forward to having.
The hotel is a bit way out of the hustle of the city but taxis are always readily available and safe.

Just been here for Dinner. Bland Corporate America at its best.
The local food is Suriname is wonderful, but the food here is like it has been frozen and flown over from the USA. Nothing here reflects the beauty of the locality. The cocktails were very ordinary.
The whole experience was relatively pricey and not worth the money.
One of my pet hates is being charged service and then having a space on the bill for a tip.

The outside areas look like a building site.

If this hotel is your sort of thing I pity you. Because there is so much better around.

Room Tip: Try another hotel. It must be said I only ate at this hotel.

Respone, Guest Relations Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo, responded to this review, July 17, 2013
Dear Customer,

we have reviewed your comments and would like to respond to it. We are an international hotel and cater pretty much to every palate. Courtyard by Marriott is foremost a business hotel brand however we have adjusted to the leisure aspect as well. Therefore, we are also expanding our pool deck, will invest in new outdoor furniture and an attractive out door restaurant for all guest to enjoy.
Our foods besides some of the mandatory USA important Beefs and Salmon are the only frozen ingredients being used in our kitchens, as a matter of fact we also offer local delicacies such as the famous pome with stewed chicken, Paramaribo Bang Bang which is a local fish recipe as well as local Indian dishes. We are certainly not intensively Caribbean oriented however considered a more formal venue. The hotel prides itself with the best breakfast in town as well as its famous Sunday Brunch. The service as one may see from most of the reviews is very good and above average and the overall quality of the rooms is of higher standard then the other hotels. Regarding the service charge and tip, this is very common in many establishments and tipping is at everybody's discretion and by far not mandatory. We certainly have taken your comments seriously and will work on the improvements mentioned. Thank you very much.
