“Comfortable,no room service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Comfortable rooms, nice pool. Breakfast buffet is a bit poor at times, but overall a 7 , especially for Surinamese standard. There's no room service which is a pity because you have to o to the bar for drinks and order a full meal at the restaurant. The gym has a nice view. Staff is polite and friendly

there is nothing better than arriving at a hotel at 4 in the morning and being greeted by fresh smiling faces! This is my third visit to this hotel for business purposes in the country and nothing has changed from since the first! The staff is ever so helpful and courteous, the night Manager even took the time to show me the different accommodation suites as well as entertain the idea of allocating the tripadvisor sticker at the front desk for new clients to see.

The location of the hotel is ideal for those wanting to enjoy the tranquility and ease of the area, the Suriname river is at the back door offering a tremendous view of the river's strength and beauty. The hotel is still located close to downtown Paramaribo and also to the night spots but keeps its comfort and cheerful staff close within.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner services offered are magnificent! The variety, presentation and taste is rewarding. There is nothing in this hotel that paints a sad picture, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, clean fresh sheets, bathroom in excellent condition, when compared to the other hotels in the vicinity, this one actually has all amenities that are functional!

In all this hotel is conducive for both families and the travelling business community like myself, i will continue to visit and stay here!

Room Tip: higher rooms are definately quieter as the activities on the ground (lawn services) will tend to dis...

I will try. The hotel is comfortable, and indistinguishable from its cousins in Nebraska, Ontario or even Tbilisi. That has advantages, and the room is wonderful; spacious, clean and all that a chain hotel should be. And this is its primary market position; predictability.

The problem is that Paramaribo is a quirky and unique destination that really cries out for a location closer to the centre; while there is a shuttle, operating at specified times but requiring an hour’s notice, dampens spontaneity. Which is a bit of a frustrating situation, as one would really want to prowl the streets of Paramaribo trying one of their restaurants and enjoying this fascinating city.

Yes, there are taxis, but given that “location, location, location” are the most-often cited criteria for success, this very pleasant hotel suffers from distance.

A pity.

Have stayed here a couple of times and each time has been without any problems. Front desk is always attentive and friendly and willing to assist with things such as restaurant reservations. Definitely a great choice.

As a family we stayed a couple of weeks. service was good, all was staff very helpful at all times.
Center of Paramaribo is on walking distance however in the tropical weather circumstances it is best to use a taxi or (rental) car.
Our youngest lost her nintendo ds and 4 weeks after we'd left we received a phone call that they had found it. so we picked it up, so cool!
The pool and gym are a bit on the small side however enough space to do your thing.
Food is good and plenty, prices are steep.
Rooms are clean and modern. Service is just fine, enough sheets, towels, soap, you name it you'll get it.

The old adage that you get what you pay for holds true with Paramaribo hotels. The Marriott is more expensive than the majority of its competitors but backs up the higher price tag by being a much, much nicer hotel. This is partly because it is a new build, and as such the rooms are fresh and not dated, as well as being well appointed. The staff too offer excellent service, and are helpful and friendly.
Our room was big with a jacuzzi bath: hot water was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and in room wifi was included in the room tariff and also very good (strong enough to Skype with). The room and the communal areas were clean and new, as you would expect from a business hotel from Marriott. The location of the hotel is about a fifteen minute walk from the Waterkant, although most people would take an (inexpensive) taxi.
The breakfast was passable, but not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. Poached eggs were hit and miss and the fruit looked a bit iffy. The service was still excellent though.
All in all this seems the best place to stay in Paramaribo, although you pay for the privilege; in a town which appears to have absolutely no decent budget or midrange options however paying the extra seems very worth it (especially given that Surinam is relatively expensive by South American standards anyway).

Initially, I was skeptical about going to a Courtyard Marriott but this one is different and all in a positive way. The rooms are large, clean and have updated furnishings. High speed internet is in all the rooms and the AC works superbly. It is in a decent location and is secure. Definitely feels like a better Marriott than the Courtyard name initially gives you. Upscale and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Gold Marriott members can get upgrades to either a Jacuzzi tub or a river view.
