“Decent value for Cayenne and great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

The hotel itself is a pretty drab affair in need of refurbishment. That said, it's in a great location, has free wireless and great AC, which is very important. My main issue was that most of the folks downstairs didn't speak much (or any) English, which made it tricky to get directions and help navigating Cayenne. It is a French-speaking country, however, so perhaps it's unfair to expect all front desk staff to speak English.

This hotel is in the best spot to get all your business done in Cayenne, a city which is not much to write home about. The rooms are basic, there is hot water - a plus in French Guyana. I found the staff who checked us in a bit too curious about our affairs and what we were doing. We were placed on the first floor which wasn´t the best choice given that the locks on the outer window were not fully working. I did not notice this fact until the morning, unfortunately. The hotel, to its credit, does have one room that handicapped can use - i was in it. The safe was also not working - it was locked by another and not available for our use. The wifi is free - a big plus- but only works in the hallway central lobby on each floor - thankfully they do provide a table and chairs. I did not eat at the hotel. There is a billiards table in the reception for an activity and a tv. Plus, the room had a tv, too. Pretty boring place, but I was only there for one night, so it was ok. A single for one person is as much as, nearly, as a double for single- so it is expensive for single travellers -- but that is standard in French Guyana. For security - it is better than other options and the cost is lower than some of the other hotels, so it was an acceptable choice.

Room Tip: for wheelchair accessible choose room 103

A well-located property, not offering the pasturised comfort of a chain property, but the cosy curiosities of a family-owned hotel; I don't see many hotels today keeping their room inventory in a large ledger.

However, their ways obviously work, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the wi-fi free and at a good speed. Friendly, helpful and in the middle of a cornucopia of restaurants.

And, it has to be said, close to a number of travel agencies who will help you maximise your stay in this remarkable, diverse and fascinating country.

Cayenne is not big, but this hotel still seems to be in a perfect location. Just a minute away from both the bus station and the Place des Palmistes, everything is easlily within walking distance. Cayenne is not a cheap place to stay, however we found this hotel to be a good deal. The beds were clean and comfortable and the room was spacious. The wifi was good and free, and reception staff was helpful and one of them even English speaking!

I stayed in February 2011 on a 3-Guyanas-tour for one night at the Hotel Central in Cayenne. The location is - as the hotel's name suggest - right in the center of Cayenne only a few meters away from the main square or the cathedral. At the main square I attend a carnival parade on the day of my arrival, which was very interesting. My room was clean and quite. The breakfast was nothing special, but o.K. In the lobby is one computer (free internet). IBefore my travel I found this video about the hotel on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WliIRusOOo
It gives you an good idea of the hotel.

Best location if you want to catch the early morning bus to Surinam border
at 8am. 200m from 'terminal'. No frills. Well managed. Good value for money at ca € 70.
