“Breaktaking views of Bogota - literally!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Spectacular views if you can make it up on a clear day. But at over 10000ft elevation I was short on breath just walking up a few sets of stairs! I recommend going up the aerial tramway and then coming down the cable car/funicular. Its a surprisingly steep ride coming downhill but its fun.

“Panoramic view of Bogorta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

The view is the reason for going up to Mt. Monserrate. Fun ride up - I liked the funnicular better than the tram but both are good. The view is the best part, but perhaps for the pilgrim the little church would be the best part. A lane lined with stalls selling tourist materials and food stuffs stretch up behind the church.

“Hike it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Hiking Monserrate is safe and a great workout. There are guards walking the path the entire way, and a lot of places to stop and get drinks/food, or to take breaks and look out over the city.

Please be aware, it is pretty difficult. We are in great shape (running a marathon next week), it was a cool, breezy day, sunny day, and it still took us an hour, drenched in sweat. We live and train at sea level. Perhaps if you are accustomed to the thin air, you will have an easier time.
Just as we reached the top, we had a few runners pass us. We asked them how long it took them and their times ranged from 25-35 minutes. Considering the altitude this is very fast!

If you are not up for this, perhaps take the cable car up, and walk down. Walking down is still steep and hard on the knees/quads but much easier than going up. Plus it's free, and no waiting in lines to get down!

“Great Day Overlooking Bogota”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Get there later in the day, so you will not be packed into the venicualar or the lift. Plan to eat at the top at one of the regular stands, not the restaurants. We spent a couple of hours longer than we had planned, just sitting and soaking up the gorgeous scenery. From the bottom, it is an easy and safe walk to Candelaria.

“Beautiful views of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

You get into a funicular and go to the top of this beautiful mountain to enjoy the view, have a nice coffee and go to the nice and authentic church. Not to skip this visit.
