This is a charming hotel in the historic section of Bogota. I have stayed here twice. On the first occasion I managed to get a suite with a balcony in the historic part of the building. This was much preferred to the standard room and was spacious with good views to the street. The hotel reminds one of a pensione in the Italian style and is decorated as such in all the common areas of the hotel. The rooms themselves are simple and adequate. Go up to El Mirador restaurant to see the rooftop view of the city. Breakfast here is ample and tasty with of course very good coffee. The ajiaco is also very good. The street is secured at night. If this is your first time to Bogota, I would suggest staying here a few nights then heading to Zona Rosa or someplace in the North to experience the other side of Bogota. It is truly a city of many faces. As for hotel de la opera, I think it is one of the best if not the best in La Candelaria. I enjoyed it both times. The spa and relaxation pool are pretty.
