“Great hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

I saw a Few hostals in Candelaria And this one Seemed to be the most clean And calm one. The Price is avarage. The only Thing is that the towels costs extra. But they Rent New Mountain Bikes here to have a Ride at Septima which is a big plus. Nice place!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in April at the beginning of our South American journey. Our booking got stuffed up on their system so we couldn't stay the first night but the lovely owner Joan helped us out and we stayed across the street but were welcome to use Explora's much better facilities. The place itself was airy and spacious with nice decor and a cool common area plus hammocks on the bottom level. The rooms were quite nice but the showers were rarely hot or available which was a bit of a bummer. This was a quiet hostel and recommended for couples or friends as it is just getting its rhythm and isn't yet a place to meet other travellers if you're alone.

Room Tip: Get a private room!

Lovely hostel. Nice location in La Candelaria. Great wifi in bedrooms. Kitchen needs some work; unclean, too small, not many implements......e.g. no glasses!! Also I am unsure whether the pillow cases and sheets were fresh as there were many hairs on them! Though some people might not mind this!

Excellent value for money. Great location, building, interior, showers (!) Our double room was okay. Service of the staff could be much more attentive, like with (offering) breakfast and giving info about facilities and also recommendations on Bogota. For example, a map would be nice. The staff was friendly though :-)

This place has all the makings of a great hostel: good location, nice common area, interesting decor, comfy beds, clean, pleasant staff, fast wifi, and even has board games. It is great if you are looking for a quiet place to stay in Bogota. Unfortunately if you are travelling solo or looking to meet people, it is quite unlikely to happen here. For whatever reason, there doesn't seem to be any socializing at Explora. Perhaps it was just a quite time of year or because it is fairly new. A few things that might help make this good hostel into a great one would be music playing in common room (not loud...just something), perhaps a happy hour for a couple hours, organized activities that the staff actively promotes to the guests...

This hostel is clean, safe and well run. It's a great place to explore Bogota old town (Candelaria) from. After a week in the jungle the shower was fantastic with plenty of hot water and good pressure. Travelling as a couple our double room was a good size for a hostel. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you're in Bogota for a couple nights I would recommend Explora Hostels.

After having not having found a decent double room with a private bathroom available anywhere in the Candelaria, we ended up in Explora Hostel by chance. We were saved: A good quality double bed with new sheets and blankets, a tiny but clean and new bathroom. A really nice common area with fast internet on the computers (didn´t need to try wi-fi). Very friendly and professional service and a handy shop for things you always forget to pack. We were happy!
