A hostel isn't designed to be the Hilton, and if being away from people is your idea of a vacation, then you definitely won't be happy here!
This is an excellent backpacker's hostel. I found a VERY VERY friendly staff, with tons of info on other hostels, and a GREAT place to get advice from other travelers if you're newly landed. For a small cell phone fee, they will make a reservation for the next hostel.
Good breakfast. Clean rooms with electrical outlets inside the lockable lockers so you can charge your phone securely. Like any city, bring earplugs, although I didn't need them in the 5 nights (split up between 2 different rooms and the beginning and end of my trip) that I was there.
The neighborhood is definitely GENERALLY safe. I was a solo traveler, and felt JUST FINE. There's no reason to not feel safe here, IF you are careful and don't do silly things. On the weekend, all sorts of locals, including the elderly, were walking around very late. But, you must be careful!
The showers were HOT in the morning and at night. Once I took a shower very late in the morning after everyone else, and they were very warm, not HOT HOT, but not at all cold. Plan accordingly, and you will be fine.
Room Tip: I faced the car lot and did not find it noisy.
