3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012 via mobile

I landed in Bogotá ill and spent my four days here mostly in bed recovering, or sat in the main living room! What this hostel lacks in service or modern appliences it makes up for in character and comfort. Theres 2 showers and both cold, a small kitchen, one TV, and one computer. But this hostel is in an amazing location and amazing old house, it has comfortable beds and sofas to relax on. It has one fire place and no heating so take a few jumpers, however beds are more than warm at night.

It within a stroll of Bogotá city centre and cable car, theres no need for any cabs or buses. Plenty of restaurants and take aways around, aswell as shops.

Id happily stay again!!!

the hostal is located in the centre of bogota (well, a 5 min walk that is), so that's nice.
They have 2 very nice dogs but those sit on the sofa as well so the sofa as the floor in general in covered in dog hair. They also walk into dorm at the from, which some people might mind.
I was in 4 bed dorn without window. Beds comfy. Kitchen spacious but not really that many tables to sit down and eat. It is chilly in the evening so bring a jacket.
Female staff a bit odd but male nice.

Our flight was seriously delayed reaching Bogota, and by the time we arrived at Alegrias Hostel it was 10pm at night. There was a wonderful welcome and we had a great double room. The staff and other travellers were very friendly. The weather was quite cold when we were there, but there were blankets on the bed and more in the lounge if you wanted them. Coffee/tea all day, and croissants for breakfast. It's located in La Candleria, great architecture, museums, restaurants and concerts.

Room Tip: There are two locations, we were in the second location just up the road. The largest room has a li...

It's e very friendly not to big hostel in candelaria in Bogota. It is very good located to reach all attractions around Bogota. Candelaria is very save and you can find several cheap restaurants. Alegrias is very clean and offers a very good value for your money. Moreover the owner is very friendly and helpflull. The atmosphere is very familiar and you just feel confortable. It is really one of the best hostels ive ever seen!

Room Tip: Dorms are better than 4 bed rooms. There are incredible double rooms with a great view over the city...

We had a good experience staying in this hostel. The owner, Alegria is very warm and friendly. We happened to lose our room keys while we were here. We had to break the lock to get into the room and Alegria did not even charge us for the broken lock! How uncommonly kind! When we first arrived things did not go smoothly but as soon as Alegria showed up, she made sure that the rest of our stay was completely problem free. The rooms are clean, decent sized and comfortable. Bogota is cold but you can get the room with the fireplace or snuggle under the many warm blankets that are available. I am usually afraid of dogs but the two at the hostel are the friendliest I have ever seen. The staff is friendly and helpful. They don't speak English but Alegria does. It is close to most major attractions in Bogota. It's not a party hostel so if you want a leisurely place to stay, this is it. Stay here if you stay in Bogota. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the fireplace or extra blankets to keep warm.

I loved my experience at this hostel. It's only a short walk to Bolivar Square and all the markets. There are also wonderful restaurants all around this hostel. Clean rooms. When I go back to Bogota, this is where I will stay.

Lovely building, clean, comfortable, lots of communal space. Two friendly dogs, good showers, great location. The people working there did not speak English, but were very friendly and helpful. Just as we left we met Alegria, who does speak English and is super lovely, and incredibly knowledgeable about Colombia and other cities and hostels. We stayed in a private room for 2 nights and a dorm for one, and both were fine (when we arrived we were not able to have the private room we had booked, there seemed to be a problem with some guy who was meant to have left but somehow hadn't...but the reception guy was very apologetic and we were given space in the dorm instead).
