“A must! 'Free bikes' cheap and good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

Wow this was very amazing. The envoierment was soo beautiful. I'm not an adrenaline person and I loved the death road. It wasn't scary at all. It is a nice trip and you can even do this when you're condition is bad, because you go downhill.

We booked this trip by free bikes. A lot cheaper than other ones but very good service. The minimum was 3 persons but we were only with two. My sister needed to catch her plan the next day so they gave us a private tour! The bikes where good, you can choose between 3 different bikes. They were also taking an extra bike in case of. The safe clothes where also good and you can choose between an open helmet or a full helmet. We also got glasses from our guide for the dust.
The guide told a lot about the envoirment and was really friendly. The food was also good. On the way we got water, banana, sandwich with egg, a chocolatebar, coca cola. And after the trip we got a buffet (same as other company's) afterworths they gave us the t-shirts and they put the photo's and video's directly on cd. We had a great time. Don't miss it!

“Very impressed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

I rode death road with altitude and was so impressed with the whole experience. The equipment was excellent; gloves, jacket, trousers, good quality bikes and full face helmets. The full face helmets were so important, we saw other groups going down with standard helmets, but 1 girl in our group fell off and scrapped the side of her face and without the full face helmet she could have done some serious facial damage. The tour was incredibly well organised from start to finish and I enjoy every very minuet of it. Such a reasonable price to and a free tshirt at the end! They also took loads of great photos and put them on a Facebook page as well as a cd. One of my highlights of S America.

“Adrenalin rush, spectacular views. Do it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

A terrific (and sometimes terrifying) day in breathtaking scenery.. As long as you can ride a bike not much fitness is required although it is a pretty physical ride with all the bumps and holding on for dear life you'll be aching at the end!! Tearing down the infamously narrow, winding road bordered by a 900m cliff while racing other bikers was one of the coolest things I've ever done. It's a great day out... Just do it!

Plenty of companies to choose from, with varying quality of equipment... Depends on the individual.

“A great day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We went with Barracuda and had a brilliant Time! It cost 450 Bolivianos for the day in comparison to Gravity who charge 750. Our main guide was called Noel and spoke very good English. He gave us lots of safety advise and reassured us that if we did not feel safe at any point you can get back in the van and there is no pressure to continue. The first part of the trip is a 30km bike down a tarmac road before you actually get to the start of the death road. It was snowing at the very beginning and he advised us that it would be better to drive down the hill for 10 minutes to avoid the extreme weather. However our group wanted to try it from the very beginning so we did not take his advice. The weather was so cold and nearly all of our group had to get back in the van after half an hour or so as everyone couldn't feel their fingers and were soaked through. We really didn't expect it to be that cold or bad and would recommend that if it is snowing when you first start the ride, just wait for the 10 minutes down the hill. You really won't miss much and it will make your trip so much better. One woman was so cold she never got back on the bike at all that day! Once you reach the actual death road it is so much warmer. The ride itself is another 30km but it is really good fun and as long as you don't show off or go too fast it is very safe! We let everyone who wanted to go really fast go first and we did it at our own pace and had such a good day. You will pedal through rivers and waterfalls and your clothes will be soaking so make sure you take spare clothes and shoes with you. You also are allowed to use the free showers at the end so take some toiletries too! The food we were given was ok. You get a ham and cheese sandwich at about 11am, a banana and chocolate bar as a snack and then a meal is cooked at the end. We both had the pasta however I was the only one who had the salad and wasn't very well the day after so I would avoid that if I were you. Overall we had a brilliant day and would definitely recommend Barracuda as your tour guide. You also get a free T.shirt and a CD with photos and videos from the day which you have to pick up from the Barracuda tour office the day after.

“Do it! Just do it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

I did the Death Road two days ago with Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking and my forearms have finally recovered. Honestly you come off from it like you've done ours of plank work on the power plate.

Luckily for us the weather was awesome. The guys from Gravity were very professional and the bikes were very good. They even handled it when I pseudo-stacked it - it was a choice of boulder, skid or ride over a 4ft mound of gravel and hope you land it. Luckily I took the latter and landed it before taking refuge in the cliff side.

The views are great as you go along and I have some great photos (mostly courtesy of Gravity).

There are a lot of companies on the road and Gravity are the most of expensive but you get what you pay for. The two companies that we saw (Altitude and Vertigo) had cyclists just launching down the hill at max warp with minimum tuition and it was dangerous. The guides didn't even where helmets!! So choose wisely but just go do it.
