“A 5* service in a 3* hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We were blown away by the friendliness of the staff. The girls behind reception have a constant genuine smile and are happy to help you in any way they can. The hotel is conveniently set in the center, close to the witches market, San Francisco cathedral and local (touristy) shops and markets. The restaurant is top. The food is high class and the waiters give you a Michelin star service. Breakfast was good as well, with a full range of fresh and hot options. Great view from the cafe on the top floor that offers lunch and small snacks.
I highly recommend this place.

The room was a tad on the small side though, but very cozy and clean!

Highly recommend this hotel if your first time visiting!! There are plenty of cheaper hotels and hostels as Bolivia is an inexpensive tourist destination, but those places aren't in ideal locations and don't have near the amenities as this place.

I was really impressed with Hotel Rosario in downtown La Paz. Some sites rate it a 3-4 star, but I would rate 4.5 stars for any hotel in La Paz. The other 4-5 star hotels are in horrible locations. This hotel is perfectly located to local merchants, famous nightly street breadmaker one block right out the front door, witches market that you can bargain with, local convenience store two blocks away, San Francisco church just a 5 minute walk away, and the huge indoor flea market by the church.

The hotel staff are wonderful and speak fluent English/Spanish (and maybe a few more languages). Breakfast buffet every morning with local fruits, cheeses, homemade bread, local tea/coffee, fresh yogurts, and eggs any style you like. They will open the breakfast early for you if a tour or return flight requires you to wake up early. Their lobby is relaxing with 24 hour hot tea/coffee/water station, clean bathrooms, and 24 hour security guard at entrance. Rooms were clean with comfortable beds, great TV service, and hot showers (may take a few minutes for hot water). During peak shower time, we did have to wait 30 minutes for hot water to replenish in building. Beautiful courtyard between lobby and most hotel rooms (Our dinner spot with local wine and bread for several nights down there). Turisbus is co-located in their lobby, although the street has several tour companies. Most tour companies are partnered together anyways, as every tour we took had folks from other tour agencies.

One friendly reminder - The Virgin Mary weekend festival (Thurs-Sun) occurs right in front of that hotel on that street. Be prepared for loud music, fireworks, and late night (2am+) partying if you stay that weekend (was first weekend of October when we visited).

We stayed in a double room - the bed was super comfortable but the other services were not as advertised. The pictures online show modern TVs and amenities but we had a TV from the 90s and when I asked why some rooms had nice one and some didn't they only said "mil disculpas" (so sorry) and said they are renovating room by room, but we still had to pay the same price. The location is far from the prado (15min walk downhill) and not ideal for seeing anything other than the witches market.

Overall okay, just make sure you get what is being advertised.

We had booked the Rosario due to the tripadvisor rating and the fact that it was close to the town centre. In fact we were blown over by the staff especially Pamela who is a real gem. In fact the rest of the staff are as good.
The rooms were of a good standard and the breakfasts were of a very good standard.
We had supper in the hotel restaurant and our meal was top drawer. We would have had dinner there on the second night however we were recommended Angelo's Colonial where we had a most unpleasant experience and this marred the whole experience of la Paz.
The hotel organized our bus trip through their in house agent and all went very smoothly.
A deserved winner of the trip advisor awards.

Room Tip: We stayed in the courtyard on the first floor. Very quiet for a city

Nice little hotel in a great location in La Paz. Doesnt pretend to be 5 star but rooms are bright and airy overlooking the central courtyard. Breakfast was a bit on the dull side but you dont really go to La Paz for the western style bacon and eggs. Really friendly staff and security on 24/7 as well to keep all things safe. Really good option for La Paz.

Hotel Rosario La Paz is situated in Avenue Illampu in the old part of La Paz close enough to the city centre to walk to it if you are able to overcome the effects of altitude and are fit enough to negotiate the winding cobblestone streets and steep hills of the city. The hotel is a division of a family owned business, Grupo Rosarios Hotel y Turismo, which has a tourist operation and another hotel in Copacabana, Bolivia.
On arrival at La Paz Airport at 5.00 am a car and driver from Hotel Rosario was waiting to take us to the hotel. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist when we arrived at around 6.00am. We were informed that it would be a few hours before our rooms were ready but in the meantime we could avail ourselves of the free tea and coffee or Coca drinks available in the lounge. Our rooms were ready to move into at 7.45am. Check in was swift and effortless.
The receptionists were very helpful, advised us on how to cope with the high altitude of the area of La Paz in which the hotel was located (approximately 3 600 metres above sea level) and cautioned us on personal safety in the city.
The hotel room was spacious, clean and adequately furnished. There was an in room safe, a flat screen TV with an extensive range of TV channels and a laundry service. There was no in room mini bar. Free Wi-Fi was available in the hotel.
The bathroom was clean with a shower. It was well supplied with 2 cakes of soap and two vials of shampoo. The two towels were white and fluffy. There was plenty of hot water available.
Although there are many restaurants within walking distance, the hotel’s first floor Tambo Colonial Restaurant had an extensive and fairly priced dinner menu with the food tasteful and well presented. A buffet breakfast was also served in this restaurant. Basically it was of a continental style but eggs were cooked freshly for you. There was plenty of fresh fruit available.
On the third floor of the hotel was a comfortable bar with views towards the snow covered mountains overlooking La Paz.
Within the hotel there are several courtyards which provide quiet areas for relaxation.
The hotel is near the witches’ market, pavement markets, travel offices and other tourist attractions but be mindful of the fact that La Paz is built in and along a river valley and some of the streets have steep gradients and when coupled with the effects of altitude walking is sometimes not easy.
Hotel Rosario La Paz is a comfortable hotel with friendly staff. I am sure it would be difficult to find a more comfortable hotel to stay in at the reasonable price charged by this hotel.

Room Tip: Front rooms have sunshine.

Awesome colonial building. Helpful, friendly staff on 24hrs. Safe in room. Good hot showers. Great restaurant with yummy local dishes. Breakfast had good range also. Enjoyed the free coca tea. Great location close to witches market & san francisco church. Stayed at Rosario in Copacabana cause it was that good.
