“Beautiful Hotel, great Restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We stayed for two nights and were impressed by this hotel. It was very modern especially compared to the four others we stayed in throughout Cuzco Peru and in Copacabana Bolivia which were rated four stars.
We enjoyed the lounge playing cards with our two kids. The breakfast buffet has a nice selection and the service for breakfast and lunch is great. They allowed us to access the lunch buffet early on the day we were flying out early. The restaurant on the 15th floor has spectacular views and the dinner I would rate as five stars. We ate there twice and just loved the food. Waiters were very attentive and friendly. Coming from Canada the prices are very low. Four meals one appetizer, their best bottle of wine, dessert and juice for the kids came to just $80.00 Canadian.
Our kids got sick the day before we were to fly home so they made up a lunch tray of soup and bread rolls and brought it up to them. When we requested jello the kitchen made up a batch for us as it wasn't offered at that time of day. (we think it was the milkshakes that made the kids ill so I'd recommend skipping those). They have a doctor in the hotel who came and checked on the kids at least five times during the day. Dr Geraldine was great, and the bell boys were quick running out to the pharmacy to bring back medicine.
We found the sheets, towels and carpets clean and new. They also have a pool that we looked at but didn't get a chance to use. It was clean and bright.
We were very happy staying here and recommend it to anyone staying in Pa Paz.

We stayed one night only in the Radisson La Paz.
The location was ok but away from central city. We didn't mind that as we really wanted room facilities rather than tourism.
the hotel, apart from reception area which was very generic was very tired looking.
Carpet in hallways worn thin and loose.
Our bathroom had rust around fittings in bath and bidet and when I had a shower the water didn't drain away. It took a staff member and a large plunger to get the water from the bottom of the bath so another shower could be had.
The towels were thin and grey and the hair dryer only worked on low. High heat shorted it out.
The bed was ok but the pillows horrible and uncomfortable. Tired old fashioned bedding and difficulty adjusting heat in room.
Breakfast ok but mundane
Would not recommend this hotel even though the staff were generally accommodating and helpful
We would not return to this hotel and do not recommend it.

With rooms rates starting at $75 (in 2013) prepaid this is a decent deal overall and for La Paz in general. There is only a few better options in town (Hotel Europa, Camino Real) if willing to spend more. In summary:

Plus:
Good location, away from centro hassle and close to nightlife and food in Sopocachi.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Upper floor rooms have great view.

Minus:
Older property in dire need of renovation. This is very much a Radisson and not a Blue.
Breakfast buffet included in all rates but selection and variety quite lacking. Terrible coffee.
Gym and sauna undergoing month-long closure in 2013.
Foam pillows only. Old, thin towels. No comforter/duvet despite La Paz climate.
Consistently poorly cleaned bathrooms.
No AC in room, heat only (north-facing rooms can get very hot during the day).

This hotel would have been a gorgeous hotel in it's day! It is getting a bit tired now. In saying that, it was clean, the rooms were quite big, everything worked and the view was awesome. It was nice to be able to eat in if we wanted to. The staff in the restaurant were great and the food was good. The bar had lovely cocktails and the general feel was good. My only pick would be having to endure chain smokers while trying to relax and enjoy a drink. It seems so strange to see smoking inside a building and not something we are used to anymore coming from Australia. It did put you off wanting to spend anytime in the bar. Overall this was a nice hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

I used the Radisson La Paz for my first trip to La Paz. I was nervous about the trip based on what I had heard about Bolivia and La Paz before arriving. I ended up having a blast in La Paz, and this hotel was much of the reason my stay went so smoothly.

The staff arranged pickup from the airport for me prior to my arrival, and this level of friendliness and helpfulness remained constant throughout the trip. The front desk workers speak fluent English and will call museums and restaurants to verify hours or make reservations. They were speedy during check-in and check-out. The workers seemed to nearly outnumber the guests, providing a level of service difficult to replicate in a US hotel.

The hotel is located near the main street, Prado, which is treelined and leads up to many neat plazas and locations. Cabs are extremely cheap in Bolivia ($1-$3) for all of the destinations I visited. If you are more adventurous, the mini-buses also go next to the hotel ($.15 per person). Use a hotel cab or have your restaurant call one for you. We felt very safe walking around the hotel neighborhood, Prado, and most of the central attractions, even a little after dark. There are numerous restaurants, shopping areas, and attractions within easy walking distance.

The 'cafeteria' restaurant on the PB floor (Lobby) provides 24 hour service (ask for a menu except for Sunday buffet). The steak and fries are good and only $6. Ask for llajwa (yawa) sauce (spicy tomato and pepper salsa) with your meal. I found this restaurant to be significantly better than their more expensive restaurant on the top of the hotel. The meal at Aransawa (rooftop place) was my worst one in La Paz. I would place it below a chain like TGIF in the US. The view was spectacular, however, so I recommend visiting the top for coffee or just to take pictures at night.

I'm giving this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 because they need to update the hotel. They need to redo the bathrooms and beds. The fountains don't have water in them. The hotel is beautifully constructed, but needs a little work. The wi-fi worked exceptionally well, probably because they have 5 wireless routers lining every floor. The hotel exchange rate is 8% worse that what you will get from a cambio on the street. Remember to bring new bills, or they will not accept them.

I will stay here again when I am next in La Paz.

I stayed in the hotel for four nights. This hotel is beautiful, although the rooms may need a little more upkeep or remodeling. Overall, the rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff helped me with many things during my stay, and they were excellent. Luckily for me, they all spoke English well (since my Spanish is muy mal). The hotel is located near the Prado, which is a beautiful street lines with trees. It is a short cab ride or a ~20 - 30 minute walk from many of the museums. I will definitely stay in this hotel again. We ate Lomo something (steak and fries) almost everyday for lunch in the 1st floor restaurant. This meal was good and cheap. They also have a great buffet on Sundays.

This hotel is just stuck in the 70´s, and I don´t mean the architecture or the decor, curtains, etc, which are totally outdated, but all of it, the beds are terrible, the sheets have holes, really terrible. The service is totally lacking, from check in to concierge to restaurants, all is slow and unfriendly. A very bad experience. If we hadn´t arrived at 3pm in the night we would have definitely left to another hotel. The fact that it is the only "international" brand hotel in town misguided us into this horrendous place.
Avoid at all means
