“Lunch at Le Comedie”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Atmosphere is cozy and somewhat intimate with different shades and textures of wood for the table and chairs, floor, and walls ( if I remember correctly). The waiter was attentive and professional. My onion soup arrived scalding hot, but somewhat bland. My ravioli was very good though, with perfect texture and flavor. My wife had a chicken dish and my sister-in-law had a duck dish. They both said that their plates were good, but not outstanding. For example, the chicken dish was ever so slightly on the dry side.
Overall, the restaurant was good, but not great.

“Good, but room for improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

We visited La Comedie for a nice lunch in La Paz. A nice place, cozy decor and professional staff. I would recommend a visit - but from our sampling, there is also some room for improvements for the kitchen.

- Before starters: The professional waiter came with some nice bread with some of the best olive oil and balsamico we have tasted sofar in South America. A good start.

- Wine: Wine can be ordered per bottle, half bottle, glass - appreciated. Half a bottle of red house wine set us back around 55 BS - a good deal for nice wine.

- Starters: we decided to go for a "Plata Fantasia", mix of cheese and meat platter. In came a plate with some pieces of cheese, ham, sausage, pate....which were ok. Unfortunately the plate also was dominated by massive amounts of green salad, a sliced tomato and a boiled egg (?). Makes it a somewhat weird composition.

- Main course: The tuna carpaccio was served freezing cold - to cold - which ruined a bit of the course. Makes it hard to find traces of the ginger sauce mentioned in the menu. And, the massive amount of green lettuce and sliced tomato mixed with the fish does not help. Is lettuce really a part of a carpaccio? Unfortunately a bit of a disappointment.

- The Beef Tartar was better. La Comedie chooses to serve the beef already mixed with some mustard and onion. Ok, nice taste, even though it might be even better to have all supplements on the side. Consider adding capers and yolk as supplements to reach the "classic" tartar. Good french fries, but unfortunately again the plate was dominated by huge amounts of lettuce and tomato.....why?

- Price: Ok. Around 250 BS for starters, wine and two main courses as per above.

- Summary; A good restaurant, we had a good time and I would recommend a visit for all fans of the French kitchen in La Paz. Wide menu, most likely high quality. However, still some small details to adjust to reach the absolute top, based on our limited experience.

“One of the best restaurants in La Paz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

We walked in with a group of 9 and just got a table. Nicely done dining room and friendly welcome, watch out if you sit at the right end though, it's a bar and smoking is allowed. We moved to a big wood table at the far end which was thankfully smoke free.

Good meal, large portions, my steak was massive and got shared. Reasonable value including wines unless you are on a Bolivian budget.
