I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 nights during the low-season.
Good location, close to the bus terminal, beaches, (cheaper) restaurants, supermarket, etc.
Large common area with bar and a kitchen available.
Fireplace, which they fortunately kept going constantly - it is cold in June!
Fairly good breakfast, for a hostel.
Large TV with movies.
Clean room (which we had all to ourselves the second night) with ensuite-bathroom. Large storage-space beneath beds - need own lock.
We found this hostel on hostelworld, where the price was 190pesos pr person for 6-bed dorm. As it was low-season, we did not book this but showed up. When we asked for the price, they said it cost 350pesos pp! We told them it was 190 online, and they said that is the price only when booked online. So we had to use their computers to book with them from hostelworld, AMAZING! Had they agreed for us to pay 190 with them directly, they would have made 10% more, and we would have saved about a half hour of time. My advice: Book online...
There were hardly any other travellers there, so the staff treated the place like it was their home. They watched football-matches - taking up the whole space in the sofas, watched movies and tv-shows, played pool, etc. And when we asked them for a beer or something else, they seemed bothered to have to "work". When we watched a movie, they played loud music and did not seem to like that we turned the sound of the TV up. One evening, we wanted to watch a movie, but they were watching a program on TV - all in Spanish, and it was very loud. It was disturbing for us to sit in the common room at all, we felt more comfortable in the dorm. They took up all the space in the sofas, and did not ask if we wanted to watch something. Also they were spending ages in the kitchen cooking a meal one evening, when we wanted to do our dishes. They did not offer us any space to do this. We almost felt like we were in the way and that we were unwanted.
The kitchen was not very well equipped.
The towels are not included.
Mould in shower.
Another slight negative is that the breakfast is only until 10am. I think it should be later than this in a hostel, some people might want to sleep in.
