The moment you step through the first doors, in from the UAE heat, you are greeted with honest pleasantries from all staff.
If you are using Horizon club (worth every penny!) you can go straight to floor 5 to book in. Horizon club is quiet and feels so much more personal with the member of staff (Anne in our case) that'll take on responsibility to ensure your stay exceeds all your expectations.

Word to the wise, book a room in the Horizon club, it honestly is worth it as you get complimentary extra's such as happy hour drinks (alcohol) between 6-8pm, biscuits, tea's, juices throughout the day, and complimentary breakfast and wifi all in the price. The staff learn your names and preferences quickly, and will strike up a conversation beyond just simple business as we found some members had interesting background stories.

The location of the hotel is nice, but be warned that you don't have a selection of close by shops, souqs or mall and each will require you to take a vehicle of about 30AED or more to reach such places. But the Grand Mosque (avoid during midday sun! go morning or 5pm or later after sunset) is just over the water from the hotel and is 5-10 mins drive due to the interesting road layouts.

The hotel has 3 pools, health and spa area, many restaurants, an amazing buffet that includes chocolate fountains, private beach, view of the Grand Mosque and a river passing right next to the main pool.

Our stay was for an anniversary, and was made even more enjoyable as both Anne and Ibrahim provided the most excellent service making us feel special and welcomed throughout our stay.

The hotel + staff have set a standard that my wife and I would be reluctant to losing on our life travels and we look forward visiting Shangri-La Abu Dhabi and their other hotels in the future.

Room Tip: When booking, ask for a room facing the Grand Mosque. Seems all/most rooms are west facing so captu...

Understated luxury in a city where plenty is overstated. Low on bling, high on comfort, with attentive and well trained staff. Flowers and chocs left in our room when they discovered it was a wedding anniversary treat. 'Bord Eau' is one of the finest French Restaurants we have visited.

Room Tip: Try to get a view. Behind the trees directly in front of our room was the spectacular Mosque across...

Absolutely cannot fault this hotel, the best I have ever stayed in anywhere. The hotel itself is beautfully decorated, rooms are large and spacious with a tradition Arabian decor. We arrived extremely early in the morning but this was not a problem and we were shown straight to our room which had an impeccable view of the Grand Mosque which was beautiful at sunset. All staff were friendly and attentive, not that we had to ask for anything.

The Horizon lounge was fabulous though unfortunately due to it being Ramadan we missed an hour of cocktails but that is to be expected during that time. Again the staff were extremely friendly and professional, the drinks selection was great and the canapes tasty.

The spa was also absolutely amazing and the gondola ride back from the Souk a nice touch. We ate at Pearls & Caviar both nights and were very impressed with the food, breakfast was also lovely. The only disappointment was that we didn't have a longer stay :)

The service at this hotel was the best we have ever experienced from any hotel in the world. The moment you arrive you are greeted with tea and dates and you are immediately attended to. Additionally every time you step in to the foyer a staff member is eager to arrange transport for you or answer any questions you might have. We opted for the Horizon Club option and service from Kopila Rai, the Horizon Club Manager was unbelievable as she was anxious to attend to any need we had.
The rooms were clean and in excellent condition and were styled in an Arabian theme and offered every facility you could want, from rainfall shower to a separate dressing room and our room had views of the Sheik Zayed Mosque which was beautiful at sunset.
The quality of the food in the restaurants was excellent - we ate at both Shangs and Hoi An and if you love Chinese and Vietnamese food these are the places for you. Additionally we also ate at the buffet which offered an array of world cuisine choices.
The only let down was the pool which was not a resort size and we felt got a little busy when a lot of guests used it. The main pool is an infinity pool and offers views directly to the mosque. There is a second smaller pool which is generally quieter but does not really have great views. The service from pool staff was excellent.
The Chi Spa is also excellent and if you want a quality treatment to relax I would recommend it.
This is a great hotel for the price and I don't think you could find better service anywhere. We would definitely return

Everything about the Shangri -La Hotel is first class. The service provided exceeds all expectations. Each member of staff is intent on ensuring that all one's needs are catered for with efficiency and politeness.

Our stay was perfect in every sense of the word. We will definitely visit a Shangri -la hotel in any part of the world due to our experience in Abu Dhabi.

We stayed for five nights and were sorry that we could not stay longer !

Room Tip: A room opposite The Grand Mosque offers a superb view of the mosque, sea and beautiful sunsets.
