“Real luxury in all its forms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

I have choosen this hotel because of its location near the offices i was visiting during my business trip.
The location is somehow remote if you are interested to the city center, but on the other hand all the rest is really super.
From the entrance hall, the reception service, the size and furnishing of the rooms, the restaurants and bars.
A few months back i had choosen another five star hotel here in Abu Dhabi, but the Shanfri La outpaces it greatly.
The bitter side is the price, which is fairly expensive, however it is worth trying if you want to pamper yourself once in a while.

I stayed at this hotel last week for business purposes, hotel is o.k, but the rate was extremely expensive.

I paid more than 2000 that is too much compared to similar hotels. In addition, location is bad where you cannot enjoy anything around the hotel

I strongly recommend trying another hotel with better location and less cost.

I absolutely loved this hotel, we had a room that when you walked out onto the patio you were a few steps off the beach, the bar, Pearls and Caviar was a beautiful spot to sit at at night and the sook which is only a golf buggy ride away was equipped with shops and fantastic restaurants, the indian and the sushi were out of this world!! I would definitely stay here again and if i was going with a few other people i would go for one of the villias on the side of the beach!!

My husband and I visited this hotel in March of last year and intend to go again this year.
The service was exceptional, the staff couldnt do enough for us. The room was excellent and the variety of food in the ;arge buffet restaurant at breakfast and in the evening was stunning.
Having two pools was a bonus but the beach was just as good to use. There was a lovely indian restaurant in the nearby small mall which you could go to by gondola or hotel bus and
it made you not want to leave the area at all.
All in all great competition to the top hotels in Dubai.

Room Tip: All rooms were excellent but for a good view of the mosque it was better to go on a higher floor.

I stayed at this hotel on two occasions during May-June 2011 as a stop over en route Sydney to Europe and return. The hotel itself is beautiful and the housekeeping and restaurant staff excellent. The buffet was unsurpassed and the quality and service in the speciality restaurants quite excellent. There is a beautiful pool and small sandy beaches - if you can bear the heat which at one point of my stay was 45+.
This otherwise beautiful experience was diminished to a significant degree by the incompetence of the reservations/front desk department. On my first visit I had to create a very ugly scene until I was finally shown to a room with a view which had been booked. At the end of this first stay I saw the PR person who assured me that on my return in about 5 weeks a similar situation would not arise. Can you believe exactly the same thing occurred. My scene was even uglier assisted by jet lag. While Senior Management eventually responded with upgrades and the GM tried to contact me after my return to Australia, the repeat of this significant failure to provide what was booked has caused me to give my business to brands other than Shangri-la. This is unfortunate as I rank the Shangri-la Singapore very highly and have always been treated with exceptional care there. However, I never again wish to be treated in the way I was in Abu Dhabi.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view and you pre-book this, shout and thump the front desk until they find...

Hotel: Absolutely beautiful hotel, we chose it because its interior is not as modern as that of other hotels and has a more "local" feel to it. The hotel is not in the city centre, but taking a cab does not cost much so it is easy to get around. There's a souk with shops, a supermarket and restaurants next to it which is handy. Furthermore, there's a canal linking the hotel with the souk, so make sure you use one of the little boats to travel there which is free for hotel guests.
Rooms: All rooms face the mosque, so the view is stunning everywhere. The size of the room is adequate but not massive. The bathroom however is very big and well equipped! The balcony has comfortable seating and was generally our favourite place. The only let-down is that one half of the rooms is closer to a busy bridge and hence it can get quite noisy when you're on the balcony. Make sure you request a quiet room when checking in.
Restaurants: The breakfast was amazing, I especially loved the chocolate fountain and the chinese dim sum. Out of the restaurants, we only tried the Chinese one. The food there was average, but the decor is beautiful as is the case for all the restaurants as far as we could tell. Generally, the restaurants in the Souk next door are cheaper and of an equally high standard.
Service: All the staff were extremely attentive although the standard did drop during the busy christmas period. Nonetheless they would always greet you and try to help you whenever possible.
Facilities: The main infinity pool is beautiful to swim in, but there are not very many loungers around it. It's also quite noisy there so we stopped going there after two days. There's another pool on top of the Chi Spa which most guests did not seem to know existed, so at most there were six people there at a time. This pool is fantastic and quiet with extremely attentitive staff so we went there almost each day. There's also a sauna and a whirlpool in the changing rooms. All the facilities there are free for hotel guests and you can walk there or take one of the golf carts.

At Shangri La Abu Dhabi you feel on one hand like at home, on the other hand - like a special guest! We stayed with a family with a small kid, and we all enjoyed it a lot. Location is remoted from the center of Abu Dhabi, but it gives a good chance to relax and rest instead of running around the city. Luxirous place, large territory with perfect amenities, peaceful environment. The view from the room was gorgeous. The staff are very friendly, attentive, helpful. Delicious food. "Shangri La style"! Love it!
