We were excited to visit Brasserie Angelique as it located at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. With the awe inspiring architecture and the reputation, we had very high expectations.
On first impression decor is quaint in the restaurant, maybe a bit heavy on the luxurious chandeliers, but we assumed that was to compliment the general location of the Etihad Towers and its glamour. We arrived a bit early and were suggested to have a drinkat the adjacent bar. Instead we went to have a drink in Ray's Bar on the 62 floor of the hotel. On our return we were seated at a tiny little round table which seemed rather awkward as it was positioned next to a comfortable couch but with 2 very uncomfortable chairs across from it. We both wanted to sit on the couch, so we moved things around a little. I think the layout could have been more thought out considering that on the other side we saw the same set up but with a comfortable square table.
It was very difficult to get some service or attention from the staff. Eventually we got wine and food menus (beautiful menus, love the design!) and had a look. we ordered 2 glasses of red and a rump for myself and my boyfriend ordered the tenderloin.
His tenderloin was incredible, and the mash was perfect consistency. The mushroom sauce was a bit bland. My rump was unfortunately too tough to chew through, and not cooked at the appropriate temperature. Eventually the BF persuaded me to ask for another steak. I asked to change for a tenderloin.
Unfortunately to my dismay, the tenderloin I received was so badly burnt not even the wine could mask it, luckily I wasn't that hungry.. During this time we had met a friend who is staying at the Etihad Towers who suggested we dare not try the desserts, because from his experience they were awful. We didn't fight him for a new opinion.
The staff and managers on duty who dealt with us through out the evening were very rushed, and there was no personal attention to us at all. One supervisor who dealt with us mostly did no damage control whatsoever... If there had been we might not have been so dissapointed. Luckily as we were leaving, we met a lovely supervisior by the name of Nicolas who showed real concern for our terrible experience and offered us complimentary wine in the bar. The bar had a warm feeling and the decor was delightful. This was the highlight of our evening.
Average experience, but we felt good to tell Nicolas that if we do come back, it will be because of him.
