“One night in Abu Dhabi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

The Spa was certainly the highlight of our stay. Restaurant - Thai was also really good. The Chef came out and chatted to all guests, made it a much nicer experience. Pool was good and nice to look out on the mangroves. Forgot our sun lotion, but sadly the pool staff didn't have any to give us, so we had to just cover up. But they had lovely gold towels and face spray!

Room Tip: Book a view over the mangroves

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind review concerning your recent experience at Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa. We are indeed thankful to have had the famous Iron Chef from Thailand “Mr. Chumpol” during Abu Dhabi Gourmet with us. Concerning the pool we are actually looking into new amenities and sun lotion is certainly one of it.

We hope to find you again during your next Abu Dhabi visit with us and I remain with kind regards,

We were originally booked into this hotel for a weekend but due to my husband being taken suddenly ill we had to extend the stay. The hotel is modern, spacious and peaceful. We had a room with views over the mangroves to the city in the distance and would certainly recommend this rather than the cheaper rooms at the front of the hotel.Bedroom was large with good facilities and very comfortable. There is a large selection of food at breakfast and an excellent buffet in the evenings. However the best thing about this hotel are the stall who could not have done more for us. Always polite and willing to help. We could not have asked for a better place for my husband to recover. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to everyone

Room Tip: Back of the hotel overlooking the mangroves

What was supposed to be a romantic Valentine weekend turned out to be a bit different thanks to the unprofessional staff! I had booked the Valentine package in a Kasara (Club level) room with an extra option of a bottle of champagne. It was Valentine's day! The check-in went relatively smooth but no one was aware of the extra that I had booked and was mentioned on the confirmation I handed over (I had printed the copy of the confirmation... :-)). The Valentine package also included 2 dinners. At the Club level concierge I booked a kayak mangrove excursion for the next morning but got to know that the hotel had just changed operators and was not available for departure from the hotel anymore and instead of 2 hours it was now a 45 minute excursion! We insisted and dig get confirmation for a 1 and a half hour tour the next morning, but of course not with a departure from the hotel. The hotel would provide a golf buggy transport to the kayak operator. We had booked the dinner but to our surprise the restaurant was full (yes, it was Valentine the waiter said!) As if we didn't know that! With some more insisting we were allowed in and the restaurant did not fill up that night! The food was very nice! Back to our room we still did not have our bottle of champagne but we had received an empty cooler! Next morning I asked the reception to deduct the champagne from our bill since the effect was lost anyway... They could not see it in the booking system but would make sure it would not appear on the final bill... The mangrove tour was a total rip off with guides who couldn't tell the difference between a mangrove and an oak tree. They left us exploring the beach instead of exploring the mangroves. In the evening we had diner in the Thai restaurant which was very, very good! We than got an apology from the front desk manager about the champagne and as a compensation a massage the next morning. He also allowed us a late check-out at 2 PM, which is by default in the Kasara rooms! Not an extra favor!
When checking out, what did I find on the bill? Indeed, the bottle of champagne we never received! Thank you Anantara for spoiling my Valentine weekend!

As we live in Abu Dhabi, we did not stay at the hotel so cannot comment about the rooms.

We had a large family gathering at Ingredients just after New Years and arranged with Frederique Lehr to use her private dining room. She made perfect recommendations for food options, allowed us private use of the adjoining terrace and was so kind and patient when we had to make last minute changes to our booking.

As this is a new hotel and we had never dined here before, we were about nervous having such a big celebration here, but location, room size and availability drove our decision. This was unnecessary worry as both food and service was perfect. The food was so fresh and one of the chefs came out to explain the way he cooked it once he heard my mother was interested in cooking. As for the staff, they were so attentive but most importantly discrete and unobtrusive.

Thank you for making our special occasion so memorable and relaxed.

We look forward to celebrating our next reunion with our new addition of our family in the very near future.

It pleases me to read that you and your family fully enjoyed the lunch and were extremely satisfied with our service, the food presentation and its quality.

My husband and myself stayed in the Kasara Mangroves Suite from 30 to 31 December for my birthday. The room is really nice with good amenities and really large, which is about the only positive about our experience. The room did have some things that were broken in the bathroom, such as toilet roll holder and the cement was not removed well everywhere. The room was very cold and it was somehow not possible to make the room any warmer.
Upon arrival you receive a food bath with scrub, which was performed by 2 guys, which I personally found a bit awkward, being in the Middle East, and it was actually quite uncomfortable as they were not very skilled.
The terrace with private plunge pool (which is I why I had booked the suite) was a big disappointment, as the plunge pool is very small and very cold! We asked to have the pool heated, however it was never warm enough to tempt us to go in. In addition, there is a complete lack of privacy as there is a walking path right outside the terrace. We furthermore had people from the room above us throwing their cigarette butts into the 'pool' a number of times.
Further, and this was the most upsetting thing: the terrace did not have any sun all day!!! That is quite an accomplishment in the Middle East...

The hotel itself was very cold inside and we walked around with goose bumps, although wrapped in pashminas. The Thai restaurant is quite nice in terms of the food, however the service was disappointing. You could see it was still quite new as the staff did not yet seem to be used to each other: you had to wait long to get the attention of the waiters, waiters were serving the wrong tables or double, etc.
When we tried to book kayaking we understood that this is done via an external company and it was not possible to book this any more as it was already fully booked, however we saw the kayaks lying there with no one in it for the next few hours.
As I had initially booked for 2 nights and the experience was so disappointing we decided to check out early on 31 December and move to a different hotel.
I explained I was not happy with the experience upon check out and was promised someone from the management would contact me, which so far has not happened.
Overall a very disappointing experience.

Hotel is great, rooms are large and well equipped, service excellent (welcome drink was much appreciated). Wifi is free if you sign up to the loyalty program, infinity pool looks over the mangroves and the gym is one of the best equipped hotel gyms I've ever seen. The location is on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, fairly convenient for a taxi to the corniche and the airport and yet also nice and peaceful. Only downside was that hot water consistently came out of the cold tap in our shower which was a little irritating, but otherwise perfect. Breakfast is also fantastic.

The rooms in the hotel are big, and have modern interior design decoration. Big bathroom and the pretty specious balcony, overlooking mangroves.
We have ordered breakfast to the room few times and it was sooo delicious!! One of the best breakfasts we have ever had in the hotels while travelling.
The hotel has a nice swimming pool and a Jacuzzi pool. In general is a very nice hotel for a short stay, I would not stay there longer than a week with a family though…as it seems like a business hotel or couples, but not too many activities for the kids. Other than that, I recommend this hotel, it won’t disappoint you!

Room Tip: Choose the mangrove view room.
