Beautiful hotel and setting when we pulled into the hotel grounds. Check in was relatively quick, we were then told our room would be ready at 3pm as this was normal check in time. For the time being we were shown the way to the ‘early check in lounge’ which has showers where we could start using the facilities – a member of staff was to let us know when the room was ready. 330pm – no sign so we ask the member of staff in the lounge if our room was ready. To our delight he told us it was (!!) , so we headed up to get our key to find our room was actually not ready. What a disappointing start to the trip. After having to wait another hour and a half our room we had to chase staff again at which point we were fed up. The room was only ready near to 5pm. Not a great first impression as we were waiting around and not approached when the room was ready and the miscommunication from the staff in the check in lounge that our room was room – WHEN IT WASN’T.
Finally got into the room with the day almost gone. We decided not to upgrade to the sea view room as it was £400 on top. The room we were in had a slight seaview, they did not seem to be flexible on the price of the upgrade either.
This definitely let the hotel down but other than that we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Would highly recommend to visit 55th+5th restaurant where the staff were superb – especially our waiter Kevin who did everything he could to make the evening special. The Sontaya Thai restaurant is also a must try, we ended up going there a few times as it was very good value for money with great portions and lots to choose from on the menu. Staff in the Sontaya extremely lovely and were even able to address us by name the second time we went in there! Also a nice beach bar Turquoise which has free drinks for ladies on Wednesday!
I would also recommend the Jazz brunch on Friday at the Olea which is impressive despite the rude hostess who was unhelpful in trying to find our reservation and would only give us a table in the 40 degrees heat. Luckily our waiter was kind enough to relocate our table inside. There was a nice spread of different cuisines compared to the normal lunch they have on offer in Olea.
The room itself was of a good size, big bed and two sinks in the bathroom on each side of the large shower area along with a bath looking out of the window. Housekeeping were knocking at around 10am so I still failed to understand why it took until 5pm for our room to be ready. Turn down service was also good with complimentary water and chocolates, also good replenishment of bathroom goods.
Hotel is in a secluded area but the beach and sunset are beautiful. There are two pool areas, never any problems finding a lounger and the staff around the adult pool are most helpful. There were also sun loungers in one of the pools which we enjoyed to keep us cool. It is a shame a few small things let this hotel down and therefore in my eyes not worthy of a 5, but all in all we enjoyed our stay!
