“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Had a quick two night visit to Abu Dhabi and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel and standard room. The room was spacious with a large bed, couch and work area. The bathroom was very large with double sink, separate shower/tub and toilet area. The shower had a rain shower head which was nice but others in our party did not appreciate when it came to wash long hair. the view of the mosque across the creek/river was wonderful. The service was first rate and very quick. An added benefit was the workout are which included several cardio stations, machines, dumbbells and free weights with bench and squat rack. The room rate included breakfast buffet which was spread over several connected rooms and offered fresh fruit, smoked meats, cereals, omelet station, pre cooked eggs and an endless supply of bread/baked goods options. Will review the Marco Pierre restaurant separately but suffice it to say that the restaurant options were world class.

There was a shopping mall ten minutes walking distance away.

Others in our party stayed at the Ritz across the river which was $150/night more expensive but the Fairmont exceeded the Ritz in rooms quality, gym facility and food options.

Definitely would recommend and will return.

Room Tip: Request river/mosque view

I had visited the hotel already for the 3rd time and it was always a great stay.
First, the property and facilities itself deserve a top mark - the pool is gorgeous and very large, the beach is nicely set and quiet, the rooms are excellent and spacious (the only design feature that I did not like is the bathroom, as it is not intimate at all) and the view over the Grand Mosque is just stunning. The service is friendly, we've never experienced any delay during check-in or check-out, the conceirge was helpful with information and booking the activities. Breakfast deserves a separate note, since the food quality and the variety is great, but the service lacks the attention and the speed - dirty plates were only removed after we were back at the table with the new ones, the cutleries were not changed unless it was requested, overall it was difficult to "catch" a waiter during breakfast. Although we've been to other restaurants of the hotel and ordered some food at the pool bar and the service was always impeccable.
Fairmont is a good choice if you are in Abu Dhabi for leisure - you will have a relaxing stay and plenty of sight-seeing spots around.

Stayed here with my wife and daughter for the weekend to celebrate our Anniversary and was nothing but impressed with the hotel. The room had a great view of both the pool, beach and mosque was a decent size and had extremely comfortable beds. We ate in Cuiscene buffet restaurant every night as it was easiest with our young daughter and it was great! The food was both plentiful and varied. The pool and beach are both clean and staff all attentive and polite. The only negative was that the hotel wi-fi appeared slow and for some reason we couldn't get FaceTime or Skype to work on it. Not a major issue though as we only stayed 3 nights. I'm already hoping I can return to this hotel very soon.

Having been to Abu Dhabi for the last 15 years we have stayed in many nice hotels, including the Emirates Palace. We visited in January and decided to try the Fairmont. On arrival we were greeted by the superb staff in the Gold Lounge, having booked Gold rooms for our week long stay. The staff, service, food were excellent and exceeded our expectations. Frankies and Marco Pierre White restaurants were outstanding and probably the best meals we have experienced in Abu Dhabi. A special thanks to Gilbert and the other staff in the Gold lounge who served us in a professional, friendly manner on numerous occasions. We liked it so much that we have booked to bring the whole family for two weeks in July!! We cannot wait to return to this fantastic hotel

Room Tip: We had a gold room, which was fantastic. But would love to upgrade to the mosque view next time, or...

It certainly looks futuristic! Inside it's got the WOW factor when you walk in and has some lovely restaurants and beach area which clearly is the place to be for local young profs. There are many local families that use it for the day which i though was a good sign. The quality is 5* and the concierge was really helpful. You could definitely keep yourself occupied, the bus service to get you everywhere was brilliant as it is a bit far out, the boat to the souk was good and quite pleasant too (all included), the rooms were massive and spacious but watch out for the frosted glass walls and doors!

it's best feature though is breakfast and the dinner buffet - there is so much you need a tour at the beginning, eggs to order, crepes to order, dessert room (not station), local food, continental, health - everything!!!!!

Likes:
bus service to malls
souk boat service
proximity to the souk
the chocolate restaurant
the hairdressers was ok - the best part is that all nail care items are sterilized.
the concierge is amazing
food!

Dislikes:
bar- ladies night is where girls drink for free but something a bit off about it
Lack of security, anybody could come up in the lift
Turn down service was a bit lacking
Calling for the same thing from housekeeping over and over and over x6 times (I just wanted a duvet)
thoroughly complicated half board basis (you need a good memory to remember it all)

Room Tip: a standard room is like a suite

This was my second time staying at the Fairmont having previously been a guest in 2013.

Room decor had changed since my last stay but the standard of the hotel and staff was just as before, simply fantastic.

The staff could not be more helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

Arabic coffee and dates in the lobby in a morning is a welcome touch.

The rooms are incredibly spacious, decorated to a high standard and with everything you could ever require.

For such a large hotel it is amazing how few people you pass in the corridors and there is no noise what so ever within the building.

The beach is immaculate with plenty of sun beds and parasols. The provision of free bottled water on the beach is a nice touch.

Fantastic pool and jacuzzi and the beach and poolside staff are second to none.

The view across the creek to the Grand Mosque is mesmerising especially after dark.

The walk along the promenade to the neighbouring hotels and souk through immaculate surroundings is lovely and after 18:00 you can take an abra along the creek stopping off at the souk and hotels.

The hotel provides a shuttle bus to various points within the city throughout the day. You need to book your place on the outbound journey in advance. The hotel guide states that on the return journey seats are on a first come first served basis. One day when the shuttle arrived at Marina Mall it was full. We had no issue with this as the guide clearly stated that return places were first come first served basis so we fully expected to fund a taxi back to the hotel. The shuttle driver however advised us to present our taxi receipt to the concierge and the cost would be refund. We did not expect this at all and were somewhat taken a back, fantastic service over and above what we expected.

The staff really make is hotel and we will definitely be back for a third stay.

Free wifi for Presidents Club members and provided at a very reasonable cost to non members.

Great location, easy to get to all points of interest in the city within twenty minutes and only ten minutes from the airport.

We stayed for 7 nights over February half term. I paid extra to stay on the Gold floor and it is definitely worth it. Check in was smooth, although our room only had 1 king bed (for 3 of us), we were told an extra bed would be sorted. The room 761 smelled of damp, so I returned to reception and asked what they could do, whilst we went for dinner (it was late and we were tired). An air cleansing machine was put in the room, but no extra bed, I told the receptionist to leave this until the morning as we just wanted to sleep. The next day i asked to move because the smell was no better. We were offered the room directly above (861) which also smelled, but not as bad and at least it had 2 beds, and we were told no there rooms of our standard were available. After 2 more nights i asked to move again because the smell of damp was really starting to ruin our stay and we were given another room (705) which was fine. A bottle of wine, flowers and a card was left, which was a nice touch, but I can't help thinking this should have been resolved on day one, even if it meant upgrading us, rather than having to wait for the same standard of room to become available. That aside, the staff are excellent, particularly on the gold level, but also in the main restaurant. My son has a nut allergy and the restaurant manager even arranged for one of the chefs to walk him round all the choices he could have each night. On one night the chef specially prepared him a main course (unprompted). The staff remembered our names from day one and all were really friendly and a great credit to the hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay, the weather was great, food was great and the staff are great.

Room Tip: Go for the gold level and a creek / mosque view.
