“Nice hotel close to airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013 via mobile

I had a 9 hour transit wait on my trip to Thailand, so I decided to check in and get a good nights sleep, the hotel is situated 5 minutes from airport and they offer pickup service which made it very convenient.
The location of the hotel is not ideal if you are going to use it for vacation, but for one or two nights it doesn't matter.
The room was large with living room, bed room and bathroom and a little kitchenette. The furnitures are outdated but all was clean and well presented, they even had organised a little welcome snack and water.
Next morning I had a small but sufficient breakfast with only the most commons like bread and egg.
Then I was driven back to the airport, so really good service there.

We was chose this hotel because, it seams like a nice 5-star hotel and with reasonable rate. By the time we were checking in late at night, by the time we were doing payment we already ask if they have any baby coat available. They informed us they have.
When we enter the room, the room was ok but on the top of bed, it was too dusty, and I have allergic to dust, it makes me difficult to breath.
We need to call 5 to 6 times to asking where is the baby coat, and at the end, they informed us that they don't have available baby coat, the staff informed us that they have only 2 baby coat and one of them are broken... They gave us extra-bed at the end.
It also took about 30 minutes to get our mineral water...
Maybe the lack of the staff, because they have only 1 GSA and this GSA also didn't smile at all when she serviced us. And it was take too long to get us extra bed and 1 bottle of mineral water.
Overall, with QAR 760.00 nett for 2 nights stay room only without breakfast it wasn't worth!
Even though they claim they are 5-star.

Hotel is good. Designed with local taste & its leaves an impression at first visit. Food is also good. Stayed there for a night. Breakfast on 6th floor around a small swimming pool. Area around the hotel is just average not really upto mark.

Good hotel….Very big and nice room….staff is very friendly…..but!!!!

The toilets and showers beside the swimming pool were very poor…dirty, no hand wash soap…no Shampoo…no tissues….some toilets not working…

I think by improving the housekeeping and facilities services, the hotel will be excellent.

Stayed for 5 nights during my villa move in September 2012. Fantastic service, great hotel, good vfm... We really enjoyed our stay...However a few negatives that could be a dealbreaker to watch out for....

1. No internet in the rooms... Only wifi in the corridors and lobbies. I managed to get a weak connection next to my front door! Wasnt travelling on business so no issue for me.

2. Location is off the main road in a 'why did they build it here' part of town . You need local knowledge to find it. Surrounding area is typical Doha low income... Safe, all basics available but don't expect restaurants malls etc...taxis could be a problem.

3. Underground parking hair raisingly tight. Built for bicycles! I squeezed in with a cerato. No space for 4x4...parking outside if you're lucky as very very busy...could be a major hassle.

4. 1 star restaraunt. Breakfast (ha ha) basic. But again as a local with transport no issue for me... Lots of shops nearby and we were happy to eat in the room ourselves.

In short, if you can get around the shortcomings a hidden gem in Doha...and probably explains why the hotel hasn't really taken off...the staff and service are GREAT...overall recommended...

As I continue my peregrination around Doha's mid-price hotels/ suites, the Al Liwan is the one I have enjoyed most so far (out of 4 - 2 more to go). Why? Couple of reasons:

- It has a bit of character with its stripey Bedouin-themed design.
- It's on a bit of a street with grocery stores, local restaurants and a HSBC branch, so you can walk about in the evening. (Tip - The "Thai Smile" on the other side of the mosque is delicious.)

Guess it doesn't take much to make me happy!
