“Pretended to be fine dining, but fell short”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

First ever visit. Unusual location on an upper floor of an office tower in the business area of the city, which is why alcohol is not available during lunches on working days (Sun/Thurs) - this was not advertised anywhere but it did make lunch much cheaper.
The restaurant looks good, looks French and has a nice feel. We had the lunch menu which is not expensive at all, but fell short on quality. The starters were tasty, if a little small, but both main courses failed to thrill. My wife's sweet included a very chewy meringue which was actually stuck to the plate. When we mentioned this to our waiter he simply gave us a feedback card to complete. Maybe he was frightened of the chef....or just not interested.
Staff were generally attentive and service overall was fine but there was a lot of chatter amongst them - we sat near the kitchen door so heard a lot. Maybe they had too many waiting staff for the number of clients.
A bit disappointing. We were going to go back for a Friday brunch and may still do so, but we wont be rushing.

“Lemon delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

They offer 2types of menu, an al a carte menu and a business lunch (2or3courses) we choose from the al a carte. The food was delicious with the choices being excellently accompanied by light sauces. However, the main delight was the melt in the mouth clouds of lemon souffle. I would highly recommend this restaurant for all.

Husband and I have also been to the Friday brunch with a good sized table of friends and have been treated to a table side buffet with plenty of choice on the mains, it is differently worth the very reasonable pricing. You can during evening and weekends request for wine.

“Superb food, superb service, superb price, superb view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

If you're in Doha, don't miss the La Varenne Restaurant....especially their Friday brunch. I've been there three times and it is my favorite brunch in Qatar. Yesterday we were there to celebrate a friend's birthday who had various types of dietary restrictions. My friend's husband called ahead to explain the restrictions......and the chef prepared a full meal that met all her restrictions....including baking fresh bread that worked for her. The service is unbeatable. The maitre 'd Samuel couldn't have been more professional and accommodating. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. The restaurant is located on the 28th floor of Tornado Tower. They have a nice selection of wines and spirits (the only restaurant, outside of a 5-star hotel that serves alcohol...)

“Great restaurant with amazing view !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

My husband and I had lunch awhile ago when La Varenne just opened for business and we really enjoyed it. It's a shame we never had the chance to go back again soon after that. The restaurant is located on the 28th floor of Tornado Tower in West Bay. You'll have to bring a photo ID to leave with the security guard in the lobby before you'll be allowed to go through the electronic gate. Don't let that put you off. The restaurant has a fantastic view of west bay the ambiance is elegant but not too formal. There is no dress code but I would suggest a smart casual . at lunch time the customers are majority suited city executives and smartly dressed ladies and I am sure it is the same all day. They have an impressive ala carte menu and a choice of 2 course business lunch at QR85 or 3 course for QR95 only. We didn't have any reservations, it was about 12:45 and the restaurant is fairly busy but we had a table for 2 straightaway. We were tempted to order the grilled whole seabass ( for two) that we had before which was cooked to perfection but we decided we should try something different this time. We just wanted a 2 course business lunch at first but we ended up having a 3 course because we can't resist having a dessert to finish off a nice meal. The food is lovely, contemporary European ( French) and it is also visually appealing. They served us a generous selection of freshly baked assorted bread with butter on the side. I had Roquefort quiche, grilled sherry fish and the coffee creme brûlée with coffee ice cream . My husband had cauliflower soup, chicken wrapped in green cabbage and apple tart with cinnamon ice cream , all of it was delicious !
The service is ok not that brilliant. There is no interaction with the waiter. He never asked us if we liked or enjoyed the meal, he just cleared our plates and when we finished our main course he never bothered to ask us if we wanted dessert. We have to ask one of the staff to give us the menu again. There is a small card in the table advertising their new table top Friday French country brunch from 12:00 noon to 4 PM . It's a full course , all you -care-to-eat menu with sharing style dishes showcasing as array of their best classics , with hors d' oeuvres and dessert trolley At QR179 per person . We'd like to try that next time. No alcoholic drinks except at dinner time . Sunday to Thursday it's open for Breakfast from 7AM -10AM , Lunch from 12PM - 3PM Dinner from 5PM -10PM . Friday 8AM to 4PM then 7PM to 11PM . Saturday 8AM - 3PM then 7PM-11PM. We really like this place and I hope the service will improve and have a little bit of human interaction next time and a nice sincere and warm smile, having said that! , that's not to hard to do isn't it? We'd also like to go back there for dinner sometime soon.
