“Great Location On the Corniche, Helpful, Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2011

The hotel is situated in the best area of Doha, right on the corniche so you can walk, people watch or exercise. Complementary shuttle service to the mall and also to the souk was a great feature. Our room faced the sea and had a terrace. The lobby is spacious and lively. Palm trees, cafes and free wifi make the lobby a perfect place to relax and unwind. A great conference hotel with a sports center, huge gym and pool. The hotel staff went out of their way to accommodate us and take care of all our requests. For a change of pace we also dined at the The Four Seasons which is in within walking distance of the Sheraton.

Sheraton Doha is one of the Best Hotel I had ever seen in Middle East not only because of it's location at Corniche from where one can view sea ( blue water ) from almost all the room. More over Sheraton has facility of almost more than 500 car parking at a time. The various meeting halls such as Al Dafna / Al Majlis is awesome. Carpet, Sound system, Projector , Chandelier, Sitting arrangement with table in Al Dafna hall was superb. More than 1500 people can sit and enjoy together various program me in Al Dafna hall. The main thing i liked was the arrangement to handle multi culture people. The staff was courteous and trained in such a way so that it was difficult for me to find any error. Food arrangement was done in nice way. One can easily find Continental food / Middle East counter / Indian Food counter ( Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian ). Also Chef and supportive staff were trained properly. Wash Room was found clean. Stand by Janitor was always found present in wash room. Fire Extinguishers were also found updated and recorded regularly. For business entities or companies who wish to arrange various programe such as Gala Dinner / Business Meet can undoubtedly go for Sheraton Doha. I assure you that you will not only get 100 % reward Plus complete satisfaction too.

like a lot of the other Sheraton properties built 30 years ago in the Middle East, the Doha Sheraton appears rather dated and tired. It does have an amazing location though and this is most probably its main advantage. The breakfast buffet is very average or rather boring; a typical Hotel buffet, accompanied by uninspiring piano music. All in all an OK business Hotel with very friendly staff; if you're looking for a more modern approach I would rather recommend the W a few blocks away.

The Sheraton, as you have read in other reviews, is the oldest large hotel in Doha so this comes with advantages and disadvantages:
*The location is great, it's very close to the west bay business district and almost connected to the Corniche. So for people that like to go for a run or a walk outside its the perfect choice.
* There's a good gym in a separate building that has most equipment needed for a workout but the pools are uninviting.
*The restaurants at the Sheraton are subpar and the bars are outright shady.
*one of the best features is a room that overlooks the corniche so you sit on the balcony at night or in the morning and enjoy the relaxing view.
*An area of improvement could be there transportation, they provide very affordable cars but they are slow to fetch a driver if you're in a rush, should have a row of cars waiting in the morning for the business travellers.
*Some of the non-smoking rooms still smell like smoke.
*Sometimes the bars downstairs are incredibly noisy, so better select a room on the 4th floor or higher.

The Sheraton is perhaps the longest established of the major hotels in Doha, having been built on the Corniche about 30 years. Its 3 sided triangular pyramid shape is very distinctive, though its 11 storeys height is now dwarfed by skyscrapers in the neighbourhood. It is located on a peninsula in spacious grounds with its own beach. It took about 20 minutes to get there in a blue taxi (fare QAR 30 - about GBP 5) from the airport.

We stayed 5 nights from 21 December over Christmas. Contrary to our expectations about an Arab country, they celebrated Christmas with a flourish - with several XMAS models in the hallway, carols every evening at 1800 and Father Christmas at dinner on 24th. So we did not escape as we hoped!

The ground floor of the hotel houses reception, one of the restaurants, business centre with free internet access. It has lifts going to bedroom floors which have rooms on each side of the triangle. Probably, like ours in 452, each has a small balcony and external view.

Our room, at cheapest tariff, had two very comfortable single beds with duvet. A lower sitting area had settee and armchairs as well as desk. The bathroom had bathtub, walkin shower, bidet and toilet. The basin tap was loose throughout our stay and was not repaired. We had a kettle with tea and coffee. Two small bottles drinking water were supplied daily. Though there were instructions on how to avoid sheets and towels being changed daily, our room man changed them anyway. There was no sign of energy conservation anywhere in the city. There was a sealed minibar (which we did not open) but iron and board was available on demand. We had two flat screen TV and one non-functioning remote control.

Three restaurants in the hotel were open during our stay. We ate dinner in each once. If you want wine, you need to eat in an hotel. We found none costing less than QAR 180 (about GBP 30) and usually much more. Food in the hotel was roughly central London restaurant price.

We booked a breakfast-inclusive tariff. A very large buffet with plenty of fruit, meats, cheeses, fish, breads though 3 only juices. A very good spread.

The hotel pool is outdoors and about 25 metres in diameter. Open 0600-2000. It was adjacent to a manmade beach though we did not swim in the sea. There were tennis courts which we saw others use.

The hotel is starting to look its generation and was not as sleek as its nearby Four Seasons competitor or the further away and more isolated Intercontinental (at each of which we ate dinner once).

All hotel staff are migrant contracted workers from English speaking Asian countries. We were not served by any Qatari at any time during our stay.

This is said to be the richest country by GDP per capita. It shows in the posh cars, shopping malls and frenetic construction. Not a cheap holiday location but an interesting one-off experience.

We paid QAR 1532 (GBP 273) per night inc breakfast and service.
