“Good Vegetarian Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

of limited vegetarian options available in doha, this restaurant is blessing for the people living around villagio, muither and al waab area.
A bit of pricey for the quantity of portions but quality is descent.
try their veg kadai and bhindi masala.
tandoor roti made of wheat is unique for this restaurant.

“2 HOURS we had to wait for our food. Up there among the worst experiences of my dining life.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We went to this restaurant because some of the guys had been before and raved about it, I don't know if we just picked a bad night but the experience was worse than terrble. From our arrival at 7.30 our drinks only came after some severe waiter pestering about an hour and a quarter later and they weren't even cold! Our food only arrived as we literally stood up to leave - tables next to us were served twice over whilst we waited for our food! It took 2 hours and when it came the waiter didn't even know what anything was, not everything we ordered was even there plus all the dosa's came 20 minutes later than everything else.

Added to the extreme wait was some terrible Indian muzac on loop with a background chorus of screaming children.

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT - unless you are either in a very small group or it looks completely empty. They will always prioritise the non-western customers over you. The food was good but no way near worth the wait.

“Saravanaa Bhavan is a winner !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

If you crave an authentic (and spicy) food experience in Doha - pass on the 5 Star Hotel restaurants that serve expensive food that sat in cold storage and go straight to Saravanaa Bhavan. This experience will energize and recalibrate your taste buds. [If you want authentic Asian food at a 5 Star Hotel head to Isaan at the Grand Hyatt in West Bay Lagoon]

Four of us ate lavishly for 80 QAR. We were very happy. Great price / performance ratio.
We paid almost as much for the cab fare as for the food.

We ordered the ghee roast masala dosa (12 QAR), the Vada set (12 QAR) and (for a change) the Poori Masala (8 QAR). Idly + sambhar is a great, healthy, choice, too. The huge ghee roast masala dosa arrives rolled up - crisp, golden, and steaming hot. It is served with sambhar, and coconut chutney (made with fresh coconut, of course) and two other chutneys. Additionally, we ordered a vada in yoghurt called curd Vada (9 QAR). Pass on the Chinese menu and North Indian food - unless you are in an experimental mood and have no expectations. Yes, there is ice cold water (1.5 liter bottles of Rayan) available upon request.

Be sure to try the coffee from South India. (It can be made without sugar, if you request).
Be sure to bring home some savory South Indian snacks - or pepper cashews.
Be sure to bring home some South Indian sweets ! (they looked great - and I had to show restraint).

The positive aspects is that this restaurant offers an authentic (and spicy) experience. Most of the people dining here are from South India. There were mostly families on Thursday night with a few solitary 'batchelors.' Be advised that if you come at peak times - the restaurant can run out of popular items. A tip is to sit downstairs - it is more fun, has higher ceilings, and is cooler (temperature wise and otherwise).

We've been to branches of this restaurant in New York City, in Paris (Gare de Nord) and in Dubai. Qatar is privileged to have 3 branches ! This probably reflects the large migrant ex-pat labor force that comes from South India (mostly Kerala & Tamil Nadu). If there was a branch of this restaurant in Lagoona Mall, we would eat here several times a week.

If you crave pure, spicy, vegetarian food - head straight for this restaurant. I'm sure that you will return to this restaurant time and time again !

“Very good vegetarian south indian restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This restaurant provides both north and south indian dishes. But south indian dishes are good in taste.I am regular customer of this hotel. But i feel north indian dishes are little bit costly.Try to avoid to go on thursday and friday evening .u will not find seat .u have to wait for long time.In week days if u r going after 9.30 pm means ,u will not get some dishes .The only problem in this restaurant is privacy.

“Good South Indian Restaurant, Average as a Service Apartment.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Hi..I have stayed at Saravana Bhavan for almost a month on my business trip to Doha, I stayed at the Old ghanin street Hotel, there is one more in doha dint try that yet.

Restaurant on the ground floor serves South Indian food. I think it is famous all over Doha for South Indian food as on weekends you would see the resto is full in the morning for Breakfast. Personally I liked Ghee Roast Doha a lot..never had it in India..Punjabi food is not that great.
It is a bit over priced but OK.

The rooms are clean and well maintained. As it is a service apartment you will get facilities like Laundry, Complimentary WiFi included in tariff..Do keep track of your laundry. :)

The Hospitality of the hotel is also good, tho not all staff can talk fluent Hindi or English still communication is not that big issue.
