When I came to retaj,I was surprisly shocked. Room was very big. I was on 4. Floor,so the view was good. Pool is low,but big. Sauna and steam are ok,but jacuzzi doesn't work. Breakfast is ok,but little choice. First night, I was dinnering at hotel. Food was very expencive but wasn't so good. Also, the location is great, near chorniches. All in all, hotel is very good.

We were booked into a superior double room at the Retaj Royal for a two-night stop-over by our travel agent. Never having stayed in Doha before we were not sure what to expect. However, on check-in we were up-graded to a suite on the 10th floor. All I can say is that from that moment on my husband and I felt like royalty! Our suite consisted of a very spacious sitting room with separate toilet off, a kitchenette area (not for cooking) with fridge and coffee/tea facilities, corridor with door to a stunning marble bathroom with both bath and walk-in shower, toilet, bidet and hand basin. The bedroom (with dressing room off) at the end of the corridor was situated in the semi-circular glass "turret" and had THE most comfortable bed we've ever enjoyed in any hotel. But it was not only the suite that made us feel special, the staff too were considerate, charming and committed to ensuring our stay was perfect. The location is good; very near the Corniche, souks and museums. As for previous TA comments about the light switches, we made sure we were given a run down on those when we entered the suite and had no problems thereafter. Highly recommended.

Stayed in the hotel during transit in Doha on my way to Europe. I just had 4-5 hours to sleep in the hotel, as much time was spent in visa, immigration formalities, wait for transfer to hotel, shuttle between airport to hotel etc. After dinner (food was so so) in the hotel, I went to the room. The room allotted to me was pretty magnificent with large living room with bar on the side, guest room, 2-3 bathrooms. In a way uncomfortable to get habituated with during short stay during which your goal is to have a sound sleep and generally cozy room is what you wish for. Could sleep 2-3 hour before it was time for me to wake up and head to catch the next flight.

During a 14 hour return STPC stopover in Doha, Qatar Airways arranged for us to stay at the Retaj Al Rayyan hotel, which we had stayed at on our outward journey. However the Retaj rep at the airport put us on the shuttle to the Retaj Royale Doha. On arrival at the Royale Doha, check-in was efficient, and we were allocated to a suite. It was very comfortable and spacious, and we appreciated the complimentary mineral water. However the water in the shower wasn't very hot, and we struggled with the complicated light switches. The only way we could get them to work was to turn the master switch on in each area, and then turn off the lights we didn't want one by one. It would be helpful to provide instructions for use in the room.
We were disappointed by the food in the restaurant, which we thought was very average for such an opulent hotel. Both dinner and breakfast were self-service meals from a buffet. The salads and desserts were good and varied, but hot dishes were disappointing. The fish and chicken were both very dry, and some of the other dishes were overcooked or had been kept warm for a long time.
As a comparison, we found that the dinner at the Retaj Al Rayyan, also a buffet meal, was far better quality.

I stayed here for 1 month for business purpose: rooms are big as most reviews say but the staff is rude especially the mignon filipino lady in the reception and the tunisian chief. Most of the admin staff are all about money before your comfort and satisfaction.
I made a pre-reservation to the hotel and at the day I arrive they tried to take all 1 month's pay which I've never seen in any of my business trips.
Then we had same conflict about internet; although it is writing in my reservation that internet is free of charge for long stay, the receptionist tried to charge it.
The most annoying; I got calls several times from the desk phone in my room in the midnight 2-3 a.m. Calls were clearly visible that they were coming inside from the hotel as I checked incoming calls registry. When I reported this to the mignon lady at the reception she insisted that calls are coming from my friends (!). When I told her that there're visible names in the callers list like Mr. xxxx..; she told me they are not in this hotel and ignored everything at all w/o apology.
Tunisian chief seemed friendly in the beginnig but annoying&sticky in the later times.
I searched for a hotel nearby at around 15th day of my stay, but couldnt find available place in the ones my company pays so I stayed there more 15 days with unsatisfaction.
Only the cleaners and the waiters in this hotel were very nice&friendly..
As I have been several months also in UAE; my advise is to choose an international hotel if you stay in arabic countries rather than arabic ones..
