We originally had intended to have a 30 hour stop over in Doha, and booked a room at the Hilton Doha. I had emailed before arrival to request early check in, and got a nice response letting me know they would if they could. Long story short, we were put onto a flight leaving 24 hours after our original one, which left us with only about 6 hours in Doha. We decided since we had already paid for the room, we would go to the hotel to shower, have breakfast and freshen up.
They sent their car to the airport for us, the driver was very courteous and the car was nice. One arrival at the hotel our bags were whisked away for us and we were left to check in. This was an incredibly slow process. I think we stood there for close to 20 minutes, and we were the only guests checking in. I'm a Hilton Honors member, and i had pre-requested a (paid) upgrade. We were given it which i know includes breakfast, but not notified of this or told where to have breakfast. We've done this enough times to just know to head to the executive lounge.
The room was very nice, the bed looked comfortable, the amenities and toiletries were great. There was a Nespresso machine in the room which my husband used. We were really there for a shower and breakfast. The bathroom looked amazing, great fixtures. However, i had no hot water in the shower - stood for 10 minutes before i got in hoping it would come through, but no. Then i realised when i was getting out the drain must have been blocked and it had flooded the whole bathroom - including clothes i had left on the floor! There wasn't enough towels to clean and soak it all up but i did my best. My husband decided he would have a bath instead - so i had to boil water in the kettle to make the bath water warmish. This experience was quite a let down. To be fair, if we were staying any longer i would definitely have asked for a new room, but off the back of the length of time it took to check in, i couldn't deal with the mess around again.
We then went to the executive lounge for breakfast. The offerings were ok, and the lounge was comfortable, with a great view. We walked around the pool area and it looked very nice, a nice kids pool too. It was so overbearingly hot by 9 in the morning, we rathered stay inside most of the time.
On departure we returned our key and let the staff member know about the bathroom, there was an apology but no offer of a refund on our upgrade money or any other compensation. We asked the concierge to call a taxi for us to return to the airport, but we waited 15 minutes and nothing turned up. Instead they had a private driver take us which cost a little more, but was a nice car.
Overall i was actually glad we hadn't had the whole 30 hours in Doha, as i'm not sure what we would have done to pass the time. The room was very comfortable so i'm sure relaxing there would have been nice. After we left i noticed a credit card hold charge on my card, which is normal, however this charge was about 3 times as much as i had paid for the room originally!
All rooms have nice views i imagine, we had a balcony but couldn't stand the heat for more than...
