The Al Mahara is in a great position at the end of the of Souq Waqif, I imagine it sees a lot of tourists who are visiting Doha. The service we received during the night was excellent, very attentive Filipino ladies, the hot towels very very welcome. We had the buffet appetiser, where for 35QAR you can go get a plate of salad (only one visit permissable however). Salds include hummus, tomatoes, beetroot salad, red kideney beans, baba ghannouj, pickled peppers, amercian yellow cheese, tabbouleh etc. The salads tasted very nice, but I think this was pretty expensive for a plate of salad. We were served bread at the table which was very delicious and flaky. It came with a plate of a few carrot and cucumber sticks and 3 dips. It was not explained what these dips where?? One tasty yoghuty and another like tomato sauce, would have been nice to know, espeically as most people coming here would be tourists and not familar with Arabic food. For mains we ordered from the Indian/Arab style fish specialities. Mine was the shark which was served with a huge platter of tasty Bryani rice. My shark had been chopped up very finely after cooking, so it was like a fish mince, it was served cold with curry spices and peppers in it. This was very unusual and unexpected. It was very crumbly and dry, so when combined with the dryish rice was not very palatable. I'm not an expert on Arabic food, so I'm trying to gratious, maybe that's how Arabs eat it, but was far to dry for me. My husband had a fish steak dish which also came with a huge platter of tasty Egyptian rice. A top was 4 steaks of fish which had been coated in a tasty curry flavoured seasoning before being deep fried to an inch of it's life. The fish could have been so much tastier if not so overcooked, there was no moisture left, it was dry and solid, he ate one piece and left it. It seemed it had not been scaled well either as there were many scales on the outside. We had two pepsi which were quite reasoanble at 8QAR which helped with eating the dry food. Our mains were 50 and 60QAR a piece, so again very reasonably priced for Doha. Look to be fair, maybe locals would come and think this excellent, I'm not sure I don't know this style of food well, maybe we just got 2 bad dishes?? After our experience I don't think we would come back, even though the service was very good, the food wasn't to my liking. I should note there was an extensive seafood menu, with platters, lobster thermidor, mussles etc etc
