“2-3 star hotel - certainly NOT 4”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Corridor carpets are dirty, hotel is shabby and the room while big smelt, had an incredibly loud air conditioner and bathroom fan.

Book breakfast night before but then charge higher price next day for the same thing which was not worth half the money - food stale, coffee very poor and choice was like in a 1 star motel.

Better hotels for the same money with more competent and friendly staff.

KEEP AWAY.

Stayed for a week in November on business. Great convenient location near the Islamic Art Museum and the old Souk. Huge corner room (deluxe double) with great view. Good food in the restaurant (mainly buffet but also has a menu) but the restaurant seems to need a manager due to inexperienced young staff. Needs updating in several areas, notably hallway carpeting. This is a good place to explore the old city, and is walking distance to the Corniche. Polite and efficient front desk staff.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe double - my corner room was more than 800 sq ft.

I stayed 14 nights in this hotel while on an international conference in Doha. It is relatively well located near the Museum of Islamic Art, the Corniche, Souq Waqif. The rooms are pointlessly big (half of the space in mine was empty, a sort of 'corridor space'. We did not have hot water for the first 8 days- due to a fault in the boiler that had happened a full tow weeks before our arrival. We only got an explanation, a date for it being repaired and a small discount after umpteen phone calls and mails. The staff need training, everywhere: the bar, the restaurant and the front desk. The food served in the restaurant is so-so: the cold buffet is OK, the hot buffet is poor, the sweets are rather good, courtesy of a good (and helpful) pastry chef, who gave me the recipe of his date cake. Nobody in our team of 15 people who ever touch this hotel again!

I stayed for two days for holidays...everything in the hotel was great and it was not pricey as well...but the staff while checking out were just too too slow...i took us approx. 30 minutes just to check out..no other major complaints though!

Let's talk about the pros and con of this hotel from my own experience for staying in this hotel in November 2012.

Pros:
- Located in the old district of Doha and has many business enterprises around, especially if you are on a business trip
- Rooms are spacious and really the only thing i liked about this hotel.
- Pub for those who like to indulge after a long day at work

Cons:
- Hotel front desk is often crowded and you have to wait a while before someone even gets to talk to you
- Very poor response from their internal phone service. Reception which is given as '1' on the in room phone, never picks up. Room service also picks up after repeated calls of many tries
- Room service menu gives many items which are not available with the kitchen. These are basic items like Mango Juice or Umm Ali sweet dish
- Dinner menu is limited. There is no tag in front of most dishes. I had to ask about 4 out of 6 dishes and when i asked them why you don't have the small tag giving the names of the dishes, the waitress simply told me, 'We don't have it'
- I was standing in front of the balcony window on the 11th floor, and i saw a big hole between the floor and the window, where a toddler can easy fall down. Thankfully, it was only my shoe that went down there, which was pulled out through a hangar tied to a stick by the house keeping.
- Internet although free, has a very poor speed. They are in serious need of upgrade of their technological infrastructure. The internet signal disappears or becomes extremely weak when you move inside the room. There is a problem connecting IPhone to the network and this was accepted by the front desk, without offering a solution.
- I gave the front desk my Voila Membership number to enter with my room information and they said they will forward it to guest relations to enter in the system. I checked after 2 days and the same still hadn't been done. The Guest Relations officer then told me she seemed to have lost the paper and asked me for the membership number again.

My advice to a serious traveler.. Please avoid this hotel at all costs.. The staff is not very helpful and have often no answers to your queries. In fact, I did not see the genuine hospitality that you expect from a hotel staff.. They often have a grin on their face when responding to you. Stay here only if you are in transit or a very short stay.

A 10 minute ride from the airport, this is a good option if you are staying in Doha for a few days and don`t want to spend all your money on a 5 star hotel. Not much to do right outside of the hotel, but Souq Waqif is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute taxi ride away. Taxis in Doha are very cheap so a good way to get around. The room itself war huge, one of the largest I have ever stayed in.

We stayed here for two nights in October 2012, on a stopover. The hotel is in a very good location, about ten minutes walk to Souq Watiq, the main market place. The room was big and well appointed with a TV and fridge.

The room was a little tired though, with dirt stains on the carpet and furniture. The restaurant in the hotel was awful! The food was expensive and not good, my wife ordered the veggie burger, which was advertised as Chargrilled vegetables and feta cheese, it was actually looked like a buuble a squeak, I had the burger which was the driest burger I ever ate. But it doesn't matter about the restaurant because there are so many places to eat at the Souq watiq which so close, so for both nights we went there to eat.

So all in all, for a few nights stop over this hotel was good, mainly because of the location.
