“Convenient for the airport, clean and comfortable but no wow factor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

This hotel is very convenient for the airport as is seen by the number of aircrew who stop here from various airlines and the hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport. This service can be a pain though if the driver decides to wait for another flight to come in and you can be left waiting with luggage in the midst of arrivals.
The hotel itself is clean and tidy, it is showing its age and the stairwells in particular look more like service areas. The allocated room was clean and tidy, though you may need to ask specifically for non smoking rooms. Room was equipped with flatscreen TV, minibar, desk and small sofa.
Service in the hotel can be slow, extremely slow and this is at any time of the day, though evenings are particularly bad. The food is good and plentiful from the A La Carte though not overly extensive. Beef and chicken burgers are big and the pizzas also good value.
None of the staff at reception, restaurant or bars seem to be overly concerned with the speed of their service.
A trip into central Muscat for shopping or meetings will set you back around 5 Rials in a taxi, be sure to agree a rate in advane, they don't work on meters and will try to overcharge any tourists or business people if they think they will get away with it!
All in all an acceptable stay but not somewhere i'd recommend for the tourist or someone seeking a little more luxury.

Room Tip: All rooms are affected by the close proximity of the airport, though it seems those overlooking the...

The foyer and entrance are very grand and the welcome from the staff is sincere and friendly but once inside the hotel and away from the reception and foyer the hotel quickly reveals the ageing parts of the hotel and in particular when you walk down to the gym area of the hotel to be faced with peeling paint on the walls and ceiling tiles missing and stained with water ingress marks.

The room was average and the hotel is convenient for the airport and it is very popular with the airline staff for the locality but there are other better hotels within a few miles distance that offer far better luxuries so if you weigh up the cost of those hotels compared to the GT you might consider it worth paying the extra 20 riyals for the night.

For the expats staying there or visiting the hotel you can buy alcohol if you desire but be prepared to pay the equivalent of the UK prices.

I have stayed at this hotel twice during the past two weeks as I was allocated this hotel by a client. It is a simple enough hotel and looks a bit dated. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable and the breakfast is a typical spread but it is nice that they have pots of fresh coffee on the go for self service, the pancakes and Danish pastries were nice too. I enjoyed wasting time smoking sheesha on the roof most evenings watching football on the big screen and there are good deals on beer. I ate at the rooftop bar a few times and the food was generally good, however on my last night the food wasn’t good; I guess the Chef had the night off.

Despite its short comings it at least has some character about it and the staff are friendly. Upon check-in I was met by Mr Sultan and Mr Nasser, both very helpful. However on checking out a different receptionist called me by a wrong name and even though I said it wasn’t my name three times and also quite loudly he continued to call me by another name and not once did he apologise. Perhaps some training in reading names wouldn’t go amiss as well as actually listening to customers.

One annoying thing for me was the size of the bathroom, it is so small that of the door is open it impedes access to the toilet and bath/shower. I also don’t like showering in the bath but hey I can put up with that but the door was a pain.

In closing, if you want a hotel close to the airport for a short stay then this isn’t a bad choice.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel over look the pool area.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your review about your recent stay at the Golden Tulip Seeb. We are glad that you had a good stay.
The hotel location is very convenient being next to the airport, specially when you need to catch a flight, however, and for the location compared to the shops, it all depends if you like to go to a souk and restaurants area, then you can drive between 12 to 15 kilometers; But the location of Citi center shopping center is only 10 minutes away from us, and we have a daily shuttle bus at 5 pm that goes there for free.

We look forward to welcoming you again to the Golden Tulip Seeb

kind regards

Typical airport hotel, some parts renovated, much not. Average food, average rooms, overall very average, but what do you expect of an airport hotel? Convenient as it is only 5 minutes from the airport, but little else. If they build a new hotel with the new airport building, due to open in 2015, this hotel will lose its main advantage.

was offered 2 rooms initially which were not suitable due to the smell of strong smoke - however the hotel eventually found us a suitable room which was not not overpowered by nicotine.

price was good for muscat athe breakfast was ok

service a little slow but this is not a high class hotel so you should not expect th standards of a 5 star .
all in all i would look to consider staying here again if other hotels were full

Room Tip: ask for non smoking

I stayed at this hotel 3 nights during a business trip in Muscat. I chose this hotel beacuse of its location near the airport and near the military base where I was supposed to go. It is a little bit old, the room are not excellent, but the restaurant food was very good. In particular I happende to be at this hotel durinf a wednesday fish night, where you can have all fish and drink you wanted for not more than 30 euros.Service was good. Swimming pool was ok and quiet.
A good value.
